  1. Coke if for mixing drinks, and nothing else that I know of
  2. You are waisting your time and energy. Some are wise enough to learn from others. Others only learn from experience, good or bad.
  3. Welcome tallguy. I would be lying if I said I knew anything about fishing in NC. But to answer a couple questions from a FL guy point of view: For weights I have never used anything over 1.5oz. And that I consider only for heavy punching. Mostly my weights will stay between 1/4oz and 1oz depending on what I'm doing. For line size I use different strengths and types depending on what I'm fishing. 60lb braid for heavy cover to 8lb test for open water. Figure out where you will fish and do some research before you buy. I don't know what kind of rod and reel you have so that question cannot be answered, and actually it all comes down to a matter of preference in the end. However, I always recommend Senkos (bait) to new anglers, there is nothing easier to catch fish with. Good luck.
  4. Nice fish. Looks over 5 to me
  5. Information overload. Buy a pack of Senkos. Go back to the lake with nothing else. Build from there.
  6. Most pros hit their prime in their mid 30's. I'm sure knowledge and experience have nothing to do with that stat though. More likely they all got nice fish finders in their 30'S. FLW has an open tournament on Lake O. I think the entry is about $4k. If you don't have a nice boat you rent one from Rolands. Don't worry about expensive down and side imaging units, you will be fishing in 5ft or less of water. So that issue is taken out of the equation. When you win the event, you will be awarded $125k. Then you can buy a nice 20+ft ranger with a 250 and all the bells and whistles. At that point you can compete anywhere in the country because you will have a nice fish finder. There you go, a nice action plan for you. You have til February 2013 to save your money.
  7. Haven't been on the alley in a few weeks myself. The fishing was hit or miss depending on how bad the pumping was. My advice is to go as far west as possible. Also, Holeylands is still fishing well. They aren't pumping out there nearly as much. Sawgrass if you can commit enough time to go deep in the flats. Good luck
  8. Good report thanks!
  9. You took him late to school to go fishing... what a good dad! Wish my dad would have done that. Cool trip keep up the good work on those little anglers
  10. Keep at it girl the big ones will come!
  11. Wow congrats on your win. 33+lbs is something special, especially the way you whooped the field by 10lbs. Great job!
  12. About 20 minutes north of Sawgrass you will find the Holeylands at the Broward/Palm Beach line. I bet you can't walk all the shore access there in an entire weekend. And, there are very big fish out there.
  13. Nice fish man, I believe you have it figured out. Stick with the rage tail, sometimes the big ones take time, but they come eventually.
  14. Congrats on your new PB's
  15. Your still ignoring the fact that these guys were doing this long before modern day electronics. I have more respect for the old fashioned fisherman who drug a 2oz weight around the lake to learn all it's features in his 14ft john boat, than I have for one who pulls up in his $80k ranger, pops in his navionics chip and hits prime spots. Any idiot can learn to use a good fish finder, but you still have to catch the fish you see on screen. Modern day electronics have taken a lot of work out of fishing, which is probably another reason so many enjoy it today.
  16. wow nice catch there. I have to get on some stripers some day. I take it they are tasty..
  17. If Lake O is an option, then there really is no other option. The fish are biting great and the bags have been huge. Fishing down here has been hit or miss for a while now. They have been pumping heavy everywhere. Holeylands was fishing good til last week when they turned the pumps on. Now it seems they are trying to make up for lost time by running them wide open. There is a visible current out there now.
  18. This arguement might hold water, except for the fact that many of these anglers have been doing this for 20+ years. Long before the great equipment we have today came along. What good is a fishfinder on Lake Okeechobee? Your fishing in 5ft or less of water. What equipment are they using there that gives them such an edge? Anybody in a bass club or who fishes tournaments can tell you that equipment is a lot less valuable than many think. Especially when some old man in a 1982 tracker with a 25hp pulls up next to your 2012 ranger with a 250hp, then proceeds to pull 20lbs of fish more than you out of his livewell. Experience, knowledge, time on the water are worth more than electronics. Some of these guys have an intuition and understanding that most don't have.
  19. KVD is anything but your "avg Joe fisherman" come on man
  20. I was there a few weeks ago and fishing was great. I made three trips out there, bag sizes ranged from 8lbs to 20lbs. More and more people were catching on to the good fishing out there. Night owls has moved their tourny out there due to poor fishing and turnouts at holiday park. Get out soon, over fishing in the area has already begun. They are running the pumps wide open almost everywhere I have been recently, with a few exceptions. It really makes it tough.
  21. Looks great man. Congrats on your new ride! See you on the lake
  22. Pretty cool. Can't wait til my trip up next summer.
  23. What a great pic! You got him to hold a fish, and smile. My kids will never do both at the same time. Very cool man
  24. I don't know much about the restoration project. It seems to change all the time. I think the pumping has more to do with keeping the water levels in check in the residential areas. God forbid someone in Weston would have to step in a puddle. I haven't noticed any change in productivity over last year to be honest, but I don't keep records.. Very soon we will be having days on the water where catching 50-100+ fish will be common.
