Another huge bass was caught today (4/7/2006) in the waters of Southern California. This one is 18.3 pounds. WEST...ahhh nevermind!

Did someone say buzzbait?!?!?!?! 8-) I've only had luck during prime buzzbait hours. Night and early morning have worked best but who knows what will happen this summer. I plan on throwing buzzbaits a lot more during the middle of the day.

I don't have a problem with him. I've learned a lot from listening to Byron on Basscenter. People are just jealous that he got a hot chick that can fish! There, I said it! (man it's late!) I can see the westside thing annoying some people but I don't think he says is that much. I think that's just his way of celebrating the way it's done out here. GO BIG OR DON'T GO!

Matt, I just saw the pictures of the 19.75 that was caught today. Any info on the 21.5? Simply amazing! I was also searching for a hawg today but I got blanked.

For me it's the body of water. What I mean is if I'm on a body of water which is known for having big bass, I'm don't mess around trying to catch the little guys. That is a waste of my time. But when I'm on a lake not known for big bass it's usually a waste of my time throwing the bigger stuff. So I adjust my mindset and what baits I'm going to throw accordingly. I then look at everything else like water temp & clarity, wind, sky, night or day, etc.

Welcome to the forum! Deadsticking is a presentation method. You can deadstick anything. Simply cast your lure out to your target and let it sit, kind of like soaking bait. Keep most of the slack out of the line but leave a little so you don't move the bait on accident. Just let it sit for as long as you can. 1 minute, 2, 3 4 5...whatever it takes. I've heard 30+ minutes but I haven't tried that. That would test my mental endurance! I lost a potential personal best while deadsticking a swimbait. The bait was sitting for about 5 minutes. When I lifted the rod and started reeling I instantly felt some weight. She spit the hook once she came up (weak hookset!). It takes some patience but it works! Just be prepared for light strikes/pickups.

With all due respect guys...I didn't want this to become another discussion about the "snagging" or how the situation was handled. It's just a poll to see if she will be caught again. Nothing else. If someone wants to start a new poll or topic about the "snagging" be my guest. Don't get me wrong, anyone can post whatever they like. It's just not the reason I started the poll.

Well the article doesn't state what lure he foul hooked the fish with but he was using a jig, while bed fishing, shortly after the foul hooked fish. So I can only assume that he was using the same bait, a jig. That really doesn't matter. The fact is he foul hooked a fish while sight fishing. A lot of people seem to think that is impossible to happen or should not happen when you can see the bait and the fish. I can't argue that. In fact I agree. But wouldn't you give someone the benefit of the doubt? If someone is going to try to snag a fish intentionally I would think a jig would be the last bait they would try it with. Again, I'm not an expert a snagging so take it for what it's worth. My problem is the Cali dudes are being trashed because a lot of people think they intentionally snagged the fish. They had all day to fish for her so why would they do it within the first hour? They have done this before so the running out of patience theory is a reach. What happened to the stinger hook everyone thought they used? Oh yeah, those were rumors because everyone thought they intentionally snagged her so they were wondering how in the world could you snag a fish with a jig. Oh, they must have used a stinger hook. The guy who was offered cash to get off the fish the day before even said in the Basscenter interview that he doesn't question Mac's integrity one bit. This guy knows Mac personally. But we have a bunch of people from hundreds and thousands of miles away who don't know the guy questioning that very integrity.

bobo...I did not necessarily mean the record itself doesn't hold water. I meant that just because a record, any record, has been around for 74 years doesn't mean the record was true to begin with. Your argument, the way I read it, was that the record must be true because it has stood for 74 years. The argument, not the record, doesn't hold much water. Although the more I read, the more I believe the record is full of holes which means if it were a bucket it wouldn't hold much water. ;)

Just because it's a 74 year old record doesn't mean it is a true record. That argument doesn't hold much water. No one will deny that it's been in the record books for 74 years. What we are debating is should it have been in the record books to begin with. Obviously we can only debate that because the IGFA will not remove the record.
