  1. As far as I can tell "the" thread was split up into 2 threads. If you look at the original thread, Glenn moved all off topic replies here.
  2. LOL @ Avid's post! Here is another.
  3. :-[5.5 pounds in 14 months of largemouth bass fishing. I've had some that may have been slightly bigger but no scale to verify. Man...I need to chuck the big baits more. Lost about a 7 to 9 pound largemouth in the winter.
  4. I look at it 2 different ways. 1) Initial Fall (Cast, bait hits the water and falls. Bass strikes before bait hits bottom) 2) Fall (Bait is already in the water and is falling, from say 3 feet to 6 feet...or a to Senerio 2 has produced more bites for me. But there are days when they take it on the inital fall all the time (with well placed casts).
  5. I do!! Avid asked me if I would like a shot at it and I jumped on it. What an honor! Thanks Avid! I received the charm yesterday and I went out this morning. I didn't get many bites but I managed a solid largemouth (estimated @ 3lbs.) on the drop shot. The bass was released after the picture. I also targeted stripers from 6:30am-11am. It was the first time I have really targeted them. No takers. We saw some huge boils but they were way too far for us to cast to from the bank. There were small stripers and big largemouth hitting the surface all around us. We couldn't get them to eat anything. There was a 12" striper that jumped straight over my buddies spook jr. Funniest thing I've ever seen a fish do! 6" Roboworm Straight Tail in Margarita Mutilator on the Drop Shot: Sorry for the bad pic. I was solo for the early session. I will PM the person I would like to see it go to next...but first I need some sleep.
  6. So what is wrong with someone asking what motivates a person to keep such a fish? No one said there were any laws broken. Some of us just wonder why someone would keep a trophy bass and not release it. How is that getting off topic? The bass was killed and we wonder why. You guys are right...everyone has every right to keep legal fish. But 3 people have already mentioned they wish they caught it. Well guess what...now no one else will catch it. Selective harvesting is one thing. Harvesting trophy bass is another. But at least she wasn't loaded with eggs.
  7. Nice catch. I'm with Keithscatch on this one. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume the lake is just over that fence and the fish was released (unless you state otherwise).
  8. Castaic Lagoon is where I do 95% of my fishing. The other 5% is Castaic Lake! LOL For those who don't know...Castaic has an afterbay, AKA Castaic Lagoon. I don't know why they made 2 lakes. The main lake is about 2300 surface acres while the lagoon is about 200. I can only assume it is there to help the water flow more smoothly. Castaic is part of the California Aqueduct system so the water goes up and down all the time. BTW...Castaic holds the record for biggest largemouth ever VERIFIED! Perry ain't got nothing on Crupi! ;D Sorry...I just had to throw that in there. I also enjoy shooting guns (at targets) and anything that has to do with the outdoors.
  9. Missed hooksets are part of the game. I used to feel stupid...but not anymore. I have already caught too many fish that I couldn't feel. Hooksets are free. I'm more worried about a hook hitting me in the face than looking stupid. I do however agree that different baits/techniques require different hooksets.
  10. Winter? What is winter? I fish all year long so I can't help much. Maybe plan a trip to Florida in January.
  11. I have a Magellan Meridian Platinum. I bought it a couple of years ago and it works great. I have marked some fishing spots on it. It's waterproof and it floats which is a big plus when dealing with any kind of water activity. You should have seen the first day I had it...I just chucked it into a pool to make sure it did float and was water proof! Sure enough it floats and it kept on ticking. It gets the job done nicely. I have since heard that Garmin makes better products but the Magellan works just fine. But I have not verified that myself.
  12. I've has similar results as KU_Bassmaster. Midnight-2am seems like prime time and 3am-sunrise is good also. Some nights they bite a little earlier...some nights it's later.
  13. I fish at night 90% of the time. I learned from LBH a while back that night fishing isn't all that different. The only thing I do different is slow down a little more and for the most part I'll use darker colors. There are times when fishing fast works. I've been doing real well with 4" drop shot worms lately so I personally don't think size matters all that much. It's more about locating the fish and presentation but that goes for day time fishing as well. Keep it simple. Do what you're best at.
  14. 2-4 times per week, 52 weeks per year. 4 is rare but I go at least 2 times per week.
  15. Very nice. I can't wait to hear how they do. How much do they weigh? GYCB Fat Ikas weigh about 12 grams.
  16. Sounds cool. The Clay Dyer story choked me up when I first heard about it. The man is truely passionate. It put a lot into perspective for me. Quick question...are we keeping track of where the charm has been? I would be cool to see how many places it's been in a few months...or even a year! I bet it will see a lot of places most of us wont get the chance to.
  17. jtbassman, stand up response. We've all, at some point, posted things that we later look back and regret. I know I've done it. Your response tells us more about you as a person than the original post. Debates on internet forums can get hairy because you can't tell the tone people are using. Something playful to me may be offensive to you and vice versa.
  18. Bass eat in stained water right? It will work...but only if you throw it.
  19. Thanks Chris. What about water temperature? Do Spots prefer colder water, like Smallmouth, or warmer water like Largemouth? LMAO...I was just looking at both of our avatars. The bass in mine looks like a minnow compared to yours!
  20. Interesting read. What are the prime conditions for Spotted Bass to thrive?
  21. ;D I can give you 25.1 reasons why C&R works! California hawgs don't get huge just because of trout. Catch and Release plays a HUGE roll. Everyone seems to forget that at times.
  22. I'm glad everyone like it. I knew it would be a hit. 8-)
  23. I have no clue what I would do. Official California state record is what... 21-12? I would first need to change my shorts!
  24. That is still going around??? ;D
