The mindset of fishing for big bass
Keith, Yes, he means the trebles would be on the top/back of the bait. A picture would explain better. ROF means Rate Of Fall per 10 seconds. Huddlestons come in 3 ROF's. ROF 5 falls 5 feet for every 10 seconds. ROF 12 falls 12 feet and a ROF 16 will fall 16 feet in 10 seconds. The 5 falls parallel to the the bottom while the 12 & 16 fall nose first. Click the link below to see a better explaination: http://www.huddlestondeluxe.com/generic34.html;$sessionid$BSU4EGYAABRZTTZENUFJPQWPERWRJPX0 There used to be a ROF 0 for topwater fishing but those are not in production anymore.

The mindset of fishing for big bass
That's great advice! I have thought about rigging a 5 like that since I fish from the bank 99% of the time. Looks like I need to pick up some 7strand and some big trebles.

Anyone concerned about...
"Toad Palm"! I love it! That Nu-Skin stuff works wonders even though I don't use it. A former co-worker introduced it to me.

citgo
I just copied my reply from the "B.A.S.S. and CITGO. would like opinions" thread. CITGO is owned by the government of Venezuela correct? Please correct me if I'm wrong. If that's the case...CITGO and Chavez are one and the same. I wonder what the reaction would be if it was called the "Venezuela Bassmaster Classic"? Because that's what it is right now. I'm willing to bet more people would be upset with B.A.S.S. and call for them to drop CITGO/Venezuela. How many people applauded Ranger for dropping Ike after the Classic? Seems to me this is a bit more important than an angler going ballistic on camera. I highly doubt he is hated more than Chavez is. Although some really seem to hate Ike. If Ranger doesn't need Ike and Ike doesn't need Ranger, why would B.A.S.S. need CITGO? Ranger did the "right thing". Now it's time for B.A.S.S. to step up and really do the right thing.

The mindset of fishing for big bass
I love these topics! Some great replies. It makes me wonder what the responses will be in 10 years. I think the reason a lot of anglers are stuck on numbers is because of tournament coverage. When we watch pros catching 5 fish per day it makes us want to do the same thing. But I bet more people would target big fish if we saw more videos of people like Fish Chris, Mike Long, Butch Brown, etc., etc. sticking trophy bass. The Butch Brown videos are what opened my eyes and started the "fire".

Thoughts on Topwater and "Big" bass
A friend of mine caught a 10.25 on a pop-r at night. I wouldn't rule 'em out as big bass baits.

Dawn or dusk?
Dusk because that means it will be pitch black soon! Seriously, it doesn't matter very much to me. I enjoy being out there at 6am, noon, 6pm, or midnight. As long as I'm out there it's all good.

The ultimate personal jonboat
If it is really carbon fiber I say at least $10,000 (US) just for the hull. Just a wild guess.

The fish that got away stories.....
December 2005...wind was very strong. Dead sticked a swimbait for about 5 minutes. Started reeling in the bait and it felt heavy...like a bunch of grass or something got stuck on the bait. When I got the "clump of grass" up to the surface I saw the biggest largemouth of my life up to that point. Probably 7 to 9 pounds. I just saw a wide open mouth. She shook her head 2 or 3 times right when she hit the surface and the bait went flying. I swear...it happened in slow motion and I did not react at all. Just froze up. I was bummed but there was probably no way I would have landed her even if she was hooked good since I was on a fishing pier, 10 feet up off the water with no net! Lesson learned: SET THE HOOK! Oh yeah...welcome to the forum.

Smallmouth in California
I have no clue. Maybe the DFG should start planting smaller trout!

New World Record Bass (25.1 lbs)
There is no season for largemouth bass in California. Some lakes are C&R only but there is no season.

Matt, I also don't understand that. Has the IGFA said they want a corpse?

Do you wear eye protection while you fish ???
Here is my latest addition to the tackle box! Yup! Smith & Wesson baby! 8-)

Do you wear eye protection while you fish ???
During the day yes...at night no. Not yet at least. And I own a few pairs of glasses for shooting which would work perfect. One pair is going in the tackle bag right now! I don't know why I didn't think of that before. Thanks for the tip Fish Chris. And thanks for scaring me straight Raul! Those pics are gruesome. Got my eyes all watered up.

hook in the eye
They live with just one eye. Last year a buddy of mine caught a 12.25# largemouth with just one eye. The missing eye was all mangled (probably from a hook). I have since seen this bass roaming around. I can tell because the messed up eye is clearly visible and she is clearly a 10+ pound fish. I wonder how big she is now... :-?
