To an extent I do believe the bigger the bait the bigger the fish. The way I see it is that a "small" bait can catch every fish in a body of water. While a "large" bait may only appeal to the larger fish, for the most part. I consider big baits to be better big fish catchers, however I also realize the importance of small baits. BTW, for what it's worth, the hawgs I caught on the roboworms last summer are far from the biggest fish in that lake. 6 to 7lbs. smaller than the largest I know of.

;D The funny thing is that I never expected to catch any fish of that size with a bait so small. I also used to make fun of the drop shot technique by calling it double small because it didn't produced any decent fish...at first. A pattern is all it took.
  3. Yeah, I'm surprised we don't need a stamp to attach a reel to a rod. : Not sure how many lines total you are allowed to have in the water at once. I should know though...
  4. Got mine on new years eve. This is what I got away with. 2007 California Resident Sport Fishing License = $37.30 2007 Ocean Enhancement Stamp = $4.20 (I'm going to start playing in the surf this year 8-)) Total = $41.50 Cost of the look on your buddies face when you stick a pig = PRICELESS!! I never have 2 lines out at once so I didn't get a second rod stamp. California has a lifetime fishing license for $681.75 for a person my age. I will probably get one next year. It makes total sense in the long run.

I never leave home without a Roboworm of some sort in my bag. Body Shad, Sculpins, Straight Tails are my favorite. I've caught a few little fish on 'em... ;D

  7. 4" worms work too. It all depends on the night.
  8. Roboworm Body Shad and Roboworm Straight Tail (4.5" & 6") on a dropshot. I also really like the GYCB Flat Tail.
  9. Awesome catch!! What did you catch her on? I want details!! ;D
  10. There seems to be an echo somewhere... ;D Who's side are you on anyway?? The thing is...If I don't get the GLX, it will be stuck in the back of my mind everytime I dropshot..."What if I did get it?" With the GLX, there would be no doubt I have the best of the best.
  11. I will first get a spinning rod for superlight weight and then a casting rod for heavier weight. I really don't mind spinning reels one bit and fish 1/8oz. weight most of the time. Got to handled the non-GLX DSR820S today. Felt very nice. It was very light. Bait Monkey is pushing me toward the GLX version... :-/
  12. Thanks for all of the input everyone. I really appreciate it. Now I have the bait monkey to deal with and he is not playing nice!!
  13. I have. Very good book. It will suck you in and give you a feel of what those guys go or have been through. This isn't a "how to catch big bass" book. It's a glance into the lives of those who are and have been obsessed with catching the World Record. Very interesting read and well written. If you are passionate about bass fishing or just fishing in general, I think you will like the book.
  14. Easy, Self Bias Resistor by Fear Factory.
  15. Raul, I'm looking at the G.Loomis DSR820C. Tackle Warehouse shows it as a casting rod. http://www.***.com/descpageRDCGLOOMIS-GLDSCR.html Now I'm confused... :-?
  16. Do you have the model number? I also own a 6'6" medium BPS Extreme (Woo Daves signature series). The rod is labeled spinnerbait but I don't know the model number off the top of my head. It's really a great all around rod.
  17. What are the advantages, if any, of using a casting system for the dropshot technique? I already own a good "finesse" baitcast reel (CH51MG, which still has to be sent to Shimano for work) and was going to match it with either a St. Croix or G.Loomis dropshot specific rod, probably the G.Loomis. Should I even consider this or should I stick with a spinning system? Casting the light weights doesn't seem to be a problem for me. I would imagine it will only get easier with a rod designed specifically for light weight. All opinions are welcome, but I'd really like to hear from those who have fished the dropshot with both systems. Which do you prefer and why?
  18. Just about everything my grandmother makes. I'm also a sucker for a GOOD pastrami sandwich. And of course you can't go wrong with a good steak, medium/rare - medium of course.
  19. Cloths and a gift certificate ($150) to Tackle Warehouse. I'll probably get the Okuma big bait rod and a few other goodies with the gift cert. Probably a swimbait to go with the rod. 8-)
  20. Well...I'm no pro. And I do not fish tournaments. I do not use nets because I fish from the bank 99% of the time and that is just another item to lug around. I'd rather carry another rod. I don't think it has cost me any fish. I've only caught two LMB worth netting and I landed them both. If the fish is going to come unbuttoned, it usually does before it's in "netting" range anyway. I'm sure that will change at some point. You'll see a story from me about "the big one that got away" and why I should have had a net. ;D BTW...I also can't stand the "hoist and slam" method. Not good at all.
  21. Gamakatsu and Owner for soft plastics. Nothing but Owner for treble hooks. ST-36 to be exact. I prefer Owner over Gamakatsu. However, Owner hooks are usually harder to find. Everywhere seems to carry Gamakatsu.
  22. I love mine. Too bad the tip broke but I fixed it and the rod still works very well. I bought the Extreme rod & reel combo for $99 plus tax. Great value.
  23. Great reel. I've owned a CDF401A for a little over a year and I couldn't be happier with it. I'd buy another in a heartbeat. As FB stated, it's work horse.
  24. Needemp, The fact is that swimbaits are not the only tool in a trophy hunters aresnal. Some use swimbaits more than others. But they are not the only tool used to catch trophy bass. I find myself in between both realms at this point. I caught my first trophy bass on a 4" Roboworm. Second was on a 4.5" Roboworm. This came after weeks of chucking swimbaits for nothing over 5lbs. or so and plenty of skunked outings. It would be insane for me to not consider a 4" worm as part of my trophy hunting arsenal.
  25. Increase. Just a hunch. "FISHING IS NOT A CRIME!!"
