  1. I don’t like having to bend the hooks on a frog to help it to hook up. By doing that you’re increasing the chances of getting snagged or picking up grass with each cast. There’s a cause and effect for everything. Thats one of the reasons I use a Scum Frog exclusively. The body is one the softest available. No adjustment is need. Mike
  2. There isn’t a “best all around”. The one you use the most is dictated by the depth of the water and getting the desired action of what you’re using. The point being is I’ll use certain baits with certain weights to maximize it’s intended action. Case in point…. In my waters the average depth is from 2-6 fow. When throwing a plastic in a horizontal presentation I use a 3/16 every time. Same bait but from 7 to 12ft use a 1/4. Those weights at those depths don’t hinder the baits action but only if I slow down a little, any heavier it does. For most vertical presentations the premise is the same but usually I’m punching through. I usually start with a 3/4 up to 1 1/2 oz. (It’s rare but sometimes a 2oz is needed) Mike

It’s designed so you don’t have to tex pose it to make it weedless, as it lies flat somewhat in the body of the bait. Just another reason why I use them more than a Senko Mike
  4. I always pre-rig a frog, t rig and UV speed worm the night before as I always use those every outing. I’ll rig the others as I need them during the course of the day. Mike

I don’t know how it would be possible to prove it with any sense of accuracy. It sure seems that way and anyone who throws a frog for any amount of time sees it happen. What’s more telling is the come back. Compare your initial hit without hooking up and then nothing or they keep coming back. To me when they come up and throw it 2ft in air it’s either trying to kill or play with it. Mike
  6. Other than the original, the only other frog I use is the Trophy Series Popping Frog. The thing about them is that the “cup” is perfectly straight and not angled as the vast majority of the others on the market. The sound and water displacement of them are unique. Mike I was tempted to try the Trophy and Launch line but never did. The thing I like so much about the original is that I can make that thing walk in place with hardly any effort and no reason to adjust the hooks or tails. Plus, it will get bit when one with a bigger profile won’t or they are more finicky as you said.

Glad to hear that Sean! Sometimes a little patience and digging a little deeper is all that’s needed when someone is struggling. Good for him!! Mike
  8. Glad to see I’m not the only one on here who throws the Scum Frog. The original is the only one I use now and have almost since they first came out. I gave away all the others Mike
  9. I use either a green/pepper (solid green with black spots) or black. Thats it I tried them all over most of the SE and nothing gave me the most consistent strikes regardless of conditions Mike
  10. All good info for you The only thing I’ll come back at is the usual thinking that an over the shoulder bomb cast is the only way to get distance. All things maximized… Line diameter, loading the rod, full spool, centrifugal brake settings, long ish rod etc A smooth 3/4 swing with an elongated follow through with a lower flight trajectory can give you more distance than you think Mike
  11. I’d pitch a soft plastic of your choice in and around the areas of visible growing grasses, especially every isolated pocket avoiding all the dead spots. When pitching to the rock/timber spots I would constantly change the angle of each pitch as you work your way around it. Before you leave cover water with a moving bait starting a few yards out working your way in. Mike
  12. You could tell by just looking at them. A lead of the same weight will be larger. Thats it Mike
  13. One of the most effective mods I’ve ever done I got from my pro at an Elite event I Marshalled for…. Reverse the front blade of a prop bait! Others… *Leave the extra plastic in place on a Rage Cut R that holds the tail section. *Add dye to the end of a stick bait (both ends in unusually stained water) *Change the front treble hook to a one size larger red one on walking top waters, jerks, cranks and light traps *Add feathered hooks to all jerks and walking top waters. * Shorten 1 side of the 2 strand frog legs if it doesn’t walk in place enough (Not needed for the original Scum Frog) Etc Etc Mike
  14. I never tied it on braid either as the Palomar and Snell are both proven for me, but I only use braid for 2 1/2 presentations Slippage would be the only concern especially using those slick coated lines but apparently you don’t have that problem. If it ain’t broke….. Mike
  15. There are no fluorocarbon lines that “requires you use specific types of knots to avoid knot failure” The only thing that is required is that it is tied correctly as is all other lines. If you have consistent success with what you’re using there is nothing better. Mike
  16. There are no hard and fast rules. A frog bite can be anytime of the day regardless of water or air temp. Since you got 3 and a few other hits that tells me to stick to it until it dies off. When I first started getting serious about learning all the intricacies of throwing a frog, I followed the line of thinking of once the sun gets above the trees the frog bite dies, until I learned better. Looking at the picture and your success rate I’d fish it without any considerations. Mike
  17. Nope never did Your right, there’s so many in Central and So Florida and considering the amount of time and tournaments I spend on Okeechobee just never got around to it. Mike
  18. @ChrisD46 Green/Pepper is the only color I use now with a black one just for a change of pace. They work 80%-90% of the time for me down here. Mike
  19. Scum Frogs I used them all at one time or another but always go back I prefer the original ones as nothing made is as soft and easy to walk in place. Mike
  20. I guess a 2 Most of my fishing is as a tournament back seater. The only “new tech” stuff in the bag is a digital scale, beam and clamp style cull tags. However, the vast majority of the boaters I get paired with are a 8-10 which does help, but does nothing for locations or boat placement. Mike
  21. Whew!! I heard about Orange a few times but nothing like this Mike
  22. I want to see it I’ve felt worse knowing what I had, but at least I know I did something right hooking up in the first place. Mike
  23. I’ve said it before… Nothing better than grabbing the big stick and going to work!! Be it a 2ft thick mat of hydrilla or a 1/2 acre of floating hyacinth. Down here for 3/4 of the year if you can read the signs and stay with it, any flip or pitch can be the biggest girl of your life. All other presentations you chuck and wind, drop, drag, hop, shake or wack. But if ya wanna take the big girls out sometimes ya gotta go where she lives and go get her on your own. Mike
