  1. Wow! Glad I referenced the article in BAM. The only thing left out of the whole discussion is an evaluation of Buicks and Chevys LOL
  2. Well, let's try again, the recent issue of Bass Angler is the Winter 2018-2019 issue just released as the first of their quarterly publications cycle. The article on Page 58, Mono vs Flouro, is thoughts on the subject by pro Pete Ponds, Tackle Tours' Cal Shew and Vicious Fishing VP of sales and marketing, Greg Meunier. Not gospel, just a discussion on use. New anglers on here may get something from it and the "experts" on here probably will not.
  3. Yep, a JDM reel and they still make them.
  4. It is rewarding to know that so many of you liked the article and you are welcome. It was kinda was reading the posts on this site.
  5. I recommend a good article on this by a bass pro in the recent issue of Bass Angler Magazine.
  6. In March each year BPS has a spring classic sale during which you can trade a working rod, or reel towards a like product and cash credit is commensurate with what you pay for the new item. The more the item costs you more you get and there will be a published scale with a max. When the Chronarch MGL hit the market during the sale I traded in a BPS ProQualifier (an excellent reel) on a Chronarch and received $50 credit toward the Chronarch. I have done the same thing on old rods. The trade in items go to youth fishing programs.
  7. I recommend that if you are getting used to the reel and want to use mono, you practice pitching with at least a 1/2oz weight and you will see a big difference. A 3/8oz is pretty light,
  8. Bass Pro has their spring classic sale in March and the sales deals are great. In addition, you can take in an old working rod or reel and get a cash credit toward either a new reel, or rod and the amount you get depends on how much the new item cost. I assume that since BPS now owns Cabelas the same would apply. for instance, I received a $50 credit for a ProQualifier reel towards a Chronarch MGL
  9. I use it for the same techniques as Bluebasser86 and 8lb mono on all three of my spinning reels.
  10. If you decide to press it out of the cover, soak the whole thing in Dawn and water for a while then use a socket the size of the roller bearing housing with the cover facing down and press. It may require a light tap, but do not hit it so hard you damage the cover. Once out, rinse well, dry well then spray the bearing with CRC Electronic cleaner before you lube the roller bearings with an oiled Qtip run around the inside of the roller bearings. Very, very light oil is the key. The electronic cleaner will remove junk and old grease quickly, will evaporite fast and will not harm the material in which the roller bearings are housed. DVT may also have his expert take on this.
  11. My needs for fishing gear prevailed over my wants for more gear, so purchases were...0
  12. Been using BPS EXCEL 20, 14 and 8lb for various techniques for 18 years. Not the only line I use now though.
  13. My brother in Michigan has used it for smallie and king salmon for 25 years or so.
  14. I have a Brothers labeler and print the line weight and type in red on white 1/2 " label tape and wrap it on the rod right behind the reel on the rod hard surface. They have proven to be water proof and come off easily when the line/reel changes on the rod. I also keep the data on a rod/reel Word 10 chart with chart lines listing each rod and its weight, the reel and its speed on the rod, the line on the reel and date the line was spooled on the reel. I also have a second chart showing the date the reel was purchased and the date it was cleaned/modified.
  15. Heck, all I ever used for bass fishing for many years on the Tidal Potomac was BPS Excel mono in 20, 14 and 8lb. Years ago, if you bought a large spool you could get a second one for 50% off and as I recall a large spool was only $8 and change. My spinning reels still have only 8lb mono on them.
  16. I would say no problem at all. No effect on the line. You must be getting ready to fish some really heavy swimbaits.
  17. I have Chronarch C14's and Chronarch MGL and the MGL is one sweet puppy.
  18. My brother in Michigan does all of his smallie fishing with a 2500 size reel, has not landed a pike with it.
  19. OK now , this has to be a good one. So the reel broke sitting in your car?
  20. I picked up a Quantum KVD spinner bait 7' at BPS on sale six years ago an I would not part with it for anything. Absolute perfection for spinner baits. Old Kevin really knew what he was doing.
  21. This is like asking what is preferred, A blond, brunette, or redhead.
  22. For what it is worth, I fish Zoom super flukes on a 7'2" medium Carbonite spinning rod with a Daiwa 2500 Capricorn spooled with 8lb BPS mono Excel, a 5/0 EWG Gammie (for a little keel effect)and a tiny swivel 18" above the hook to prevent line twist. Always worked great for me.
  23. Weight variances from purchases over a period of four years and I assume it is a result of contents in production over time. The two 2.0 rods purchased six months apart are 4.3oz each. We are talking about pretty good rods here, but not Loomis.
  24. I am up to eight Carbonlites and two Carbonlite 2.0. They are really great rods and over looked in my opinion. The 2.0 is really sweet with the Winn grips. All of mine are 6'6" and 7' Med and MH fast tip and I have 8.5:1 Curado K reels on each of the 2.0 7' MH rods, each spooled with 15lb Invizx and both for plastics. They are really light rods with the 6'6" MH coming in at 3.6-3.9oz and the 7' MH at 4.0 to 4.5oz. None are micro guides.
