  1. And if you can't, you can always get the TD Advantage HSTA, which is essentially a Zillion without CRBB's but with extra bearings in the handle to make the retrieve even smoother.
  2. 10# Yozuri is reliable up to around 16# of pressure. I would say it should be fine. Only thing I'm curious about is why fluorocarbon for the leader? Fluoro sinks, but you typically want to use a floating bait, so it seems a little counterintuitive. I always thought the point of the c-rig was to control the length of a leader and use a floating bait so that you can drag a bait across transitions in structure and also around underwater cover while maintaining a certain distance from the lake floor. For instance, you could fish a c-rig with a 4'2" leader across pads of hydrilla growing 4' tall so that your lizard or other floating bait can skitter across the top of the weeds while the c-rig weight kicks up dust and creates commotion, attracting the attention of the bass.
  3. I would not recommend the Orra. I have heard good things about the Caenan. Carbonlite is good for lighter baits, but otherwise there's really no NEED for an extra light reel.
  4. Mustad KVD's with their shortened shanks should help prevent tangling.
  5. Slow down your presentations. Try more subtle action baits. More action is not always better. Also, try to be stealthier when approaching a spot that looks like it could hold bass. Big bass tend to spook easier. Probably the reason they lived long enough to get big.
  6. Try to keep your rod tip high as you're pitching and lower it when the lure hits the water. It will free up some line and ease the tension so that the lure doesn't swing back at you so dramatically.
  7. Dobyns. I don't think the reel matters much as long as it can handle braid and can chuck a 1/2 oz bait. Since frogs are typically heavier baits and rely more on casting distance than pinpoint pitching accuracy I'd say go with a Shimano. I personally am a Daiwa fan but I've found from my experiences that Shimanos will almost always beat Daiwas in terms of pure casting distance with baits 3/8 oz and over. I'd say get either a Caenan or a Curado E7 and upgrade its drag to Carbontex.
  8. +1 I own a few Magforce V reels including three Alphas Itos which like the Steez have Type R+ tuning. I've found that these types of reels cast much better underhand and sidearm than overhead. If you like how your Core casts, you may want to consider trading your 103 for a 100 for Magforce Z since I've found Z series to cast much more like a Shimano 6-pin than the V series.
  9. Probably a mild case of food poisoning. Make sure to cook the jimmy dean a little longer next time and wash your hands with soap after handling the sausage but before touching anything else. Cross contamination does happen from time to time.
  10. Heck, I'll take some free jigs. ;D
  11. How relaxing it can be just being in touch with nature. A day out fishing can alleviate a whole week's worth of stress for me.
  12. I would expect to pay anywhere from 170-185 if decent condition means there might be one or two scratches at most.
  13. Daiwa Advantage HSTA hands down. This reel is basically a Zillion without CRBBs but with a 4 bearing handle instead of 2, making it incredibly smooth. Really, either the HSTA or the Curado E7 should suit you fine. It comes down to whether you prefer Daiwa's Magforce Z braking system or Shimano's 6 pin centrifugal braking system. The Daiwa Sol is also an option, although I would personally say it's better for smaller finesse presentations. It's great for tossing lighter baits in the 1/4 oz range and uses Magforce V instead of Magforce Z, which means it sacrifices a little bit of casting distance for the ability to pitch light baits well.
  14. Can you explain this please?? i bought some lake fork 1/2 oz weights at a local tackle shop that was going outta business for $2 and they have plastic inserts in them..Seemed like a good deal but i haven't used them yet and now am a little scared to. Will they fray the line or something? They fall out, and the potentially sharp edges they are supposed to shield can nick your line. Well crap!! .. Thanks for the info J...Wanna buy some cheap tungsten weights?? ;D ;D Just fish them pegged. Most of the time the rough edges fray your line due to the unpegged sinker sliding up and down the line repeatedly, scraping off bits at a time.
  15. If Jigs count as a way of fishing soft plastics, I'd say I fish soft plastics 90% of the time and hard baits 10% of the time. IMO, plastics can be fished a lot slower than hard baits and I'm a very slow fisherman. I personally have no problem sitting on a spot for an hour combing it over and over very slowly with various T-rigs and jigs.
  16. you're not her Uncle! ;D Obviously. Otherwise he'd be in jail for diddling.
  17. The whole idea of a Mojito is to be light, tart and refreshing, hence the mint and lime. Whose bright idea was it to put heavy cloying fruity flavors into something like that? Sheesh.
  18. I use 6# for spinning, and 10# as an all purpose line for my baitcasters. I got some 12# just to try it out because I usually use 15# for pitching into cover but found it to be a little too thick for my liking. If everything works out well 12# will be replacing 15# in my arsenal for that purpose.
  19. We might be able to help out more if you could tell us what you intend to use the setup for. For instance, what type of baits will you be throwing with it, how heavy the baits you intend to throw with it will be (1/4 oz, 3/8 oz, 1/2 oz, etc.), what kind of techniques you want to use it for, etc.
  20. Same order I made. Great minds think alike! ;D
  21. Depends on the line thickness. Higher pound tests typically have fewer yards. YoZuri Hybrid Ultrasoft has about the same line diameter as Berkley Trilene Big Game. Here's a link to specs for how many yards of line are on a 1 lb spool of Big Game based on pound test: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_22516_151011001_151000000_151011000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL Thanks for the heads up on the amazing deal. I won't be needing fishing line for a long while. 8-)
  22. d**n, my secret is out now. And here I was hoping that y'all would stick with the rage tail craws and leave me to my Hale Craw Worms and Salt Craws.
  23. Square bill cranking and paddle tail soft plastic swimbaits.
