  1. Try tossing a 3-way rig with a heavy weight and a size 4 circle hook with corn on it into swift-moving dam tailwater. I guarantee you the carp there will give you a MUCH harder fight. They swim against fast current every day to feed, and are much stronger because of it.
  2. Never mind, it just took a lot more time than I expected, but I managed to get the pin back in little by little.
  3. Here's a question for people who frequently swap bearings - what do you do if the spool pin is being stubborn and refuses to budge? I've swapped bearings in the past without a hitch with a pair of smooth needlenose pliers, but this spool has a spool pin that I just can't seem to budge. Anyone have any suggestions for how I can overcome this problem? Edit: I managed to get the pin out without any damage to the spool. Now the problem is getting the pin back in... I've oiled it up so I don't think it's a lack of oil.
  4. To be fair, the kids today and kids back then are not of the same animal. Also, Ritalin does not turn you into a zombie. It may stunt growth, but if anything it gives you a mild case of OCD. Here's a list of far more likely scenarios in 2010: Scenario 1: Jack breaks into his dad's gun cabinet, and brings a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun to school. He shows it off to a few friends, believing it will make him look bad-***. 2010 - School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to juvenile detention and is forced to see a psychiatrist for several months to determine how crazy he is and which happy pills (probably benzodiazepines) he has to take to stay chill. Scenario 2: Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school. A teacher tries to stop the fight and is slugged in the face. 2010 - Police called -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it. Both kids are uncooperative with the officers and have to be physically restrained by several officers. The parents then sue the police department for unnecessary roughness and police brutality, citing bruises on the boys. While the lawsuit is likely to get thrown out, it stirs up a community-wide @#$!-storm and someone in the police department eventually becomes a scapegoat and is forced to resign. Scenario 3: Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students. The school notifies his parents and asks for their cooperation. The parents either ignore the school or tell them that it's the school's job to teach Jeffery to not be disruptive. 2010 - Jeffrey is tested for ADD by the school psychiatirst, and is diagnosed with it. He begins to take a prescribed dose of either Ritalin, Vyvanse or Aderall. Scenario 4: Billy breaks a window in his neighbor's car and the neighbors throw a hissy fit and presses charges. 2010 - Billy is forced to do a set amount of hours of community service. Furthermore, this will be a permanent black mark on his record and will impact his success in the future. Scenario 5: Mark breaks his leg and is prescribed Percocet/Vicodin by his doctor to deal with the pain. 2010 - Mark realizes that he can "get high" by taking more than the recommended dosage of the opiate, and brings some to school to sell to his friends so he can make some extra money and "look cool" at the same time. Mark is caught, the police are called and Mark is expelled from school for drug violations. His car is then searched for drugs and weapons. Scenario 6: Pedro fails high school English. 2010 - Pedro drops out of high school and begins living on government assistance. Scenario 7: Johnny learns from the internet how to make fertilizer bombs from household materials such as Drano and assorted nitrates. He sets one off in his backyard and ends up losing some body part such as a limb or an eye. 2010 - His parents sue the manufacturers of various household items for negligence in making their products tamper-proof. Gets away with a huge lump of cash in the settlement. Coincidentally, Johnny's parents didn't notice anything odd about their son suddenly developing an interest in mixing various household cleaners and assortments of gardening products together in the garage while wearing a surgical mask. No one questions them for negligence. Scenario 8: Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. 2010 - Johnny's parents sue the school for negligence and demand damages for pain and suffering. The school takes down the playground because it is deemed hazardous. The school is then forced to make budget cuts and let qualified educators go and resort to lower quality teaching materials in order to pay for attorney fees and the settlement.
  5. I love my Falcon Lowrider XG.
  6. I put salami, ham, Jarlsberg and a dollop of cream cheese into the food processer to make a spread and eat it on crackers. Adding fresh chives and dill is good too.
  7. Yeah - in fact the guy replaced the whole original CF swept handle. But it's cool because he replaced it with a 90mm bassart CF handle with aluminum knobs. Still, for a Sol, I feel like I got the better end of the deal by quite a bit.
  8. I hear ya about the Alphas thing - I'm addicted to those reels! They seem to multiply in my closet like rabbits, although I wish they didn't hit my pocketbook so hard. My most recent Alphas though, wow, it was a heck of a deal. I managed to trade my Sol outright for an Alphas R. Crazy huh?
  9. Why? Is it because you occasionally fish brackish waters or is there something else about aluminum frames that I'm missing?
  10. Wait.... I thought TD-Z was just short for Team Daiwa Zillion. TD-Z's are Team Daiwa Z's. They were for the most part JDM-only reels, although I think the TD-Z 100M made it to the US. They're the precursor to the Zillion. A lot of people, myself included, still like them more than the Zillion because they are lighter and have a higher bearing count than the Zillion. Go on ebay and type in "Daiwa TD Z" and see what comes up.
  11. does weight matter? its a push for me. Well, if you shop around you can essentially get TD-Z's for about the same as a new zillion, if not cheaper sometimes. If I had to choose between a TD-Z and Zillion for the same price, I'd choose the TD-Z simply because it's lighter, smoother and casts just as well as the Zillion as both will have Magforce Z.
  12. You would take Zillions over TD-Z's?
  13. I feel like Senkos are like training wheels on a bike. When you first get em, you love them and would never think of giving them up because they make riding a bike so much easier. It isn't until you gradually become better at riding bikes that you realize that while training wheels do make riding bikes a no brainer, you can go much faster and have a better experience without them.
  14. Not me. My go-to bait when all else fails is a finesse jig tipped with a soft plastic craw trailer with a realistic profile and pinchers such as the gene larew salt craw, the lake fork pig claw or the yamamato craw.
  15. There's a pretty big difference between the 09 and '10 Premiers. Same with the Revo STX's.
  16. In their defense they can't make as much $$$ as you to blow on tackle. ;D At least, that's where all my spending money goes. Better spent on tackle than booze I suppose.
  17. Thanks for the advice about the big brother/big sister thing Lee, I'll definitely look more into that. The only worry I have is having enough time since I am a college student and also do work a job as well as an internship. I'm on break right now, but Spring semester resumes for me on the 18th. Shane J, the reel American heroes thing looks promising, I'll definitely look more into that.
  18. Gotta love those benzos. ;D
  19. Not sure where to put this, so I'll leave it here for now. So I've been reorganizing all my tackle yet again due to cabin fever and have come to the realization that I simply have way too much tackle. I'll never be able to go through all of this stuff because I know I'll probably get distracted by all the new lures developed every year. So I want to donate this stuff to kids who love to fish but perhaps can't always get their hands on the stuff they want. I've got a few older model baitcasters that have a little rash but work perfectly fine(9/10 mechanically at least), as well as a bunch of plastics and some hardbaits. I'd much rather have someone put these to good use than have them sitting in the corner collecting dust. I know I could probably sell my extra stuff on the flea market, but I guess the Grinch in me is just absent this week. So my question is - does anyone on here know of any good kids that love to fish that could use some extra tackle but perhaps can't afford it? If so, PM me and we can work out the details of how to get my tackle into that kid's hands. First come first serve basis, although I will probably divvy up the stuff between 2-3 kids. If you're a new member, I don't want to be a dick, but I'll probably require some sort of verification of legitimacy. Thanks, James
  20. Tell us what qualities you would want in your ideal reel and we will be able to help you more.
  21. http://www.apple.com/macbookair/performance.html It has plenty of processing power. Macs work much differently than pcs the way they run and switch programs. Macs are different from "PC"s in that the Mac OS runs on UNIX kernel and shell whereas Microsoft Windows runs on its own proprietary kernel. While Macs may appear to be faster at some tasks due to better hardware compatibility with software (due to lack of driver issues that plague Windows at times), it does not mean that they are inherently powerful by any means, simply more efficient at times. The Macbook Air 13" has a 2.13 GHz Core2 Duo, which is pretty old hardware. The 11" runs a meager 1.6 GHz Core2 Duo. I highly doubt that kind of raw processing power is going to bottleneck a standard 5400 rpm hard drive. Unless you're transferring several different files into different directories at one time while trying to access large media files at the same time, the FSB on the processor is likely to hit its limit first.
  22. Wow, that's a nice chunky football! Show us some pictures of the smallies!
  23. If I may ask, why a macbook air? Also, how big will the laptop be? From personal experience laptops are not as useful for school as I thought they would be - especially if they were over 15.4" in size. A 17" laptop will be awkward to handle in classrooms, especially if your classrooms are equipped with those tiny half-desks like mine are. IMO, what they're trying to say is that the machine has 2 gigabytes of RAM, which some people refer to as memory. The 64gb/128gb memory refers to how much the hard drive can store. "Flash storage" means that its hard drive is not a conventional hard drive, but rather a Solid-State Drive or SSD. SSD's have the advantage of much faster data transfers than conventional hard drives, so you're less likely to have your hard drive data transfer rate bottle-necking and slowing down your computer. They're also much lighter. However, in the case of a macbook air, I doubt the machine will have enough processing power to cause even a conventional 5400 RPM hard drive to bottleneck, so I'm not sure how much benefit you will truly derive from having a solid state drive other than it making your laptop lighter.
  24. Yamamoto 5" Craws - I go through 1-2 bags per week throughout the summer, and about 2 bags a month during the school year as I don't fish as much due to classes. I tip my finesse jigs with these and fish em real slow. I keep it on the DL though. Most of the guys I fish with still think I catch most of my fish on rage and paca chunks. They also still think I fish my jigs fast.
  25. There are no rules for rigging any baits, only suggestions. If you think it might work, why not just try it out and see what happens?
