  2. I'm pretty sure the Alphas Ito frame is made from some kind of aluminum alloy.

  4. Crush some fresh garlic cloves in a mortal and pestle and chop up some fresh green onion and toss them into the soy sauce for an hour before using it (to let the flavor seep out into the marinade) as marinade and it will taste even better. If you like ginger, you can throw in a small quarter sized 1/4" slice of ginger in the marinade as well. Just remember to toss it out before using the whole marinade, or otherwise the flavor of the ginger will overpower everything else.
  5. Try preparing bass like teriyaki chicken. You will be pleasantly surprised by how good it is!
  6. My name stems from my uncanny ability to draw nibbles from fish only to set the hook into either nothing or a nasty stump. That and my propensity to nibble on any food I can get my hands on when I'm left unchecked. ;D
  7. Thanks for all the input guys! Our University bass club has decided to go with it as our club logo for our Jerseys.
  8. You haven't seen the pond behind my house lol, I need a 1oz to get through all the grass. I dunno about that - I had the most success with 3/8 oz bullet head jigs in that pond since they seemed to not snag on pond scum as much as heavier, bulkier jigs.
  9. If they remove enough quality fish, the fishery will suffer. If the fishery suffers, chances are it will receive fewer visitors and make it far less likely for future tournaments to be held in the area. As a result, there will be less money trickling into the local economy since good fisheries as well as tournaments bring tourists and money spenders. So in the long run, they could end up screwing themselves over a couple of fish dinners.
  10. Someone taught me this one trick: If you're worried about ripping trebles out of a fish's mouth due to not having a "moderate action" cranking rod, a quick and dirty fix you can do is to just lighten up on the drag somewhat when cranking with a fast action rod. That way you can set the hook without worrying as much about the action pulling the crank out of the fish. Not saying that this would be preferable to having a dedicated cranking rod, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
  11. I personally like it a lot. Not sure if my Mossyback is the same as the MBR model Mossybacks though, so I can't comment on the mixed reviews.

  13. I got a PT Smoke 100 the other day. Gotta say, I was pretty impressed. Like some previous posters said, Quantum does not yet have what it takes to stand toe to toe with Daiwa, but it was pretty close. It was not quite comparable to my Alphas Ito or R-Edition, but it came pretty close in terms of casting/pitching distance, smoothness, etc. The fact that it has an all-aluminum frame including the sideplate is also very impressive, considering my Alphas use composite materials for their sideplates (Lexan, I think). Still, the braking system is what put me off a bit. I'm just not that big a fan of centrifugal braking. If they ever make these with Magforce V or Z, I'd definitely consider getting a few more.
  14. Here's a fraction of my stuff that I brought with me to campus. I have a bunch more at home that I will be taking pictures of later in the week. Excuse the poor quality - I only have my cell phone at the moment. Alphas Ito, Alphas R-Edition, and a Curado 100D Pair of Citica D's and a Fuego Pair of Zillion 7.1, Conquest 50S, Ryobi Varius F200 Spectra
  15. Had something similar happen to me a week back. I'm pretty sure I contracted H1N1 or something because I was bedridden with a fever of 103.2 or so. Unfortunately, I had a Corporate Finance exam that week, but I was too delirious and confused to study for it properly. I was sick over the weekend, and the exam was on Tuesday. Unfortunately for me, this professor does not give make-up exams due to illness or emergencies. Instead, he has an optional final that you can take and use that grade to replace a missed exam or a lower grade on a previous exam. I figured that I might as well give my first exam a shot since doing bad on it would be the same as not taking it because either way I would have to rely on the optional final. So basically, I had all of Tuesday morning to sort of "study" for the exam that afternoon, since I was way too sick over the weekend and Monday to do anything at all. I was still sick Tuesday, but had recovered enough to be able to read without having my vision blur. I was still coughing like crazy, and it was a dry hacking cough. I knew I would probably get kicked out of the exam if I kept coughing like that, so I downed half a bottle of cough syrup to stop the coughing and walked into the exam. I typically can get away with that without experiencing any negative side effects. The funny part is that my mom bought me that cough syrup (I stayed home for the weekend to try and beat the flu), and it turned out that this specific syrup had a higher concentration of Dextromethorphan in it than typical syrups. So I basically walked into the exam unintentionally robotripping. I ended up not even making it to the last problem because I took so darned long on each problem due to my brain just crapping out every few minutes from the syrup.
  16. Yes, we are indeed banning select things out of all things. I personally don't think that it's the best thing to do, but I can understand the reasoning behind some of the rhetoric. If we are debating why some people would advocate to ban a specific breed of dog and not other dangerous items like guns or knives, it is because pit bulls are autonomous whereas guns and knives are not. If the law were changed so that all dog owners would be held personally responsible for all damages caused by their dogs (ex. dog kills person, owner charged with murder), I'd have no problem comparing pit bulls with guns and knives and advocating deregulation. The problem is that owners can in fact hide behind the fact that they cannot feasibly account for every single action their pit bulls make. That's why they can only be held liable for negligence (unless in some extreme circumstances, such as the owner sic'ing the dog on someone) in most cases. I think it would be unfair to deregulate pit bulls completely while still allowing owners to get away with a negligence charge at the most. That's pretty much having it both ways. I'm not disputing the fact that a crackdown on dogfighting and puppy mills will go a long way towards ending the problem. The issue is that such operations take time, and the perceived consensus is that we have the "problem" on our hands now.
  17. Because the human brain works very differently from the canine brain. You can teach a child the reasoning behind why violence is wrong. You can only teach a dog that bad things will happen to it if it decides to display violent/aggressive behaviors. Also, because human rights and animal rights are not equal, we cannot restrict violent people from having children because that would begin to look like eugenics. We are not advocating the banning of all dangerous things. The issue with pit bulls is that they are autonomous beings with minds of their own. A knife cannot just decide to get up and stab someone. Also, if a knife is used to harm or kill someone, we hold the wielder of the knife liable for criminal charges. I don't think the owner of a pit bull can be charged with murder if their dog decides to suddenly go on a rampage and tears someone's throat out. I'm sure there are plenty of people who can bury landmines in their yards and post up signs saying "warning: landmines" and manage them in a way that would prevent anyone from getting hurt. Doesn't mean we allow them to do it.
  18. Which size split ring would you recommend?
  19. If you had a decent stroke, unintentional english wouldn't be an issue.
  20. Not everyone can manage their time as well as some of the people you know though. I know this one stoner who is pulling above a 3.0 GPA while majoring in Electrical Engineering. Mind you, we're at UIUC, which has a very rigorous Engineering curriculum. Problem is, I seriously wonder sometimes about how much more he could have accomplished if he wasn't spending hours every day getting/being high. He's an incredibly intelligent guy, so he can get away with spending less time than many other students on homework/studying. But imagine how much more he could accomplish if he spent the time he now uses to get/be high on more studying, perhaps some research with professors, etc. I could never become a stoner. The stuff's not exactly cheap, and I spend way too much money on fishing tackle as is. Being happy is an accomplishment. He's probably intelligent enough to have figured that out. Just my opinion, but I have a feeling most of the stoners who give weed the rep for causing people to be lazy and unambitious would be exactly the same way without it.....lazy and unambitious. I know far more people who have had their personality radically altered through the use of anti-depressants, which don't seem to receive ANY negative press - - - despite the fact that all you basically have to do to get them "prescribed" is to ask for them. (there are some people who do have a real clinical need for them, so don't take me the wrong way) I agree with this. Benzodiazepines can be incredibly addictive, and SSRI's can make you act crazy as heck.

  23. I bought a reel from a nice Japanese gentleman a while back, and he had thrown a bonus lure into the reel box (what a great guy, huh?). From what I can see, it's a black and gold Megabass Ito Vision 110 jerkbait, and a straight-eye one at that. Problem is, I don't know what kind of trebles I should put on it to make it suspend! Furthermore, it's a saltwater version, so I'm wondering if the regular stock freshwater Vision 110 hooks will even work on it since the same weight will not suspend in both fresh and saltwater (things are typically more buoyant in salt water). On the bottom of the bait, written in gold marker, is the following: 2002 Saltwater Limited I.T.O Vision 110 (SW) I've attached a picture of the lure laying on its side.
  24. I've been using their pig claws for the past year. Very nice subtle trailer that adds a good amount of bulk. Not a lot of action, but you can give it action by yo-yo-ing your jig like a rat-l-trap (only you do it a lot gentler, and yo-yo it so that it bobs up only a few inches and then falls a few inches, etc.). I've had several bass swim up to my jig and inhale it a couple of feet from shore while staring me in the face by doing that.
  25. I been hearing this a lot. My dilemma is that orange and blue are our school colors, so those colors are pretty much the ones I'm stuck working with. Also, we may be putting these either on t-shirts or jerseys, which means that we have an incentive to use as few colors as possible since it leads to faster turnaround time and possibly lower costs.
