  1. @Delaware Valley Tackle will get a kick out of this. I'd just got a Tatula SV TWS back from him that I'd bought used and needed some TLC but planned to use for spinnerbaits. Put line on it, put it on the rod, it felt awful. Wouldn't cast nearly as well as my other SV reels, retrieving my spinnerbait was difficult to say the least. I really was having to crank and it felt jerky for some reason. I tried for a few minutes and put the rod down in disappointment. When I got home, I went to take the reel off the rod to put the Fuego I had been using for spinnerbaits back on the rod. That's when I realized I'd somehow managed to wrap my line around the rod blank between the reel and the first line guide when I was threading the line and didn't even notice it, not only when I did it, but also when I made several cast with it ? It was an after work trip so maybe I was a little tired and half cross-eyed, but I still couldn't believe I'd done that and not noticed.
  2. Haven't seen this, thanks. I'll have to give it a try next time I make a couple of my big, coldwater spinnerbaits which it's about time for unfortunately.
  3. I've had them on 2 different trailers now and I'll put them on my Stratos trailer when those bunks bite the dust. Not sure about on the salt, but they've held up to my winter time fishing and the chemical treated snow and slush that gets splashed on them along with dirt road dust, which eats everything it gets into.
  4. Suspended fish in the summer are a lost cause unless there's bait around.
  5. Same on all accounts.
  6. My favorite bait to fish is a jig, 1/2oz if I get to pick one.
  7. Are you sure the jumping fish are bass? It's pretty unusual for bass to just jump on the surface. Now if you see bait jumping around and explosions in the middle of them, it's a different story. A vast majority of the time when I see fish jumping or rolling on the surface, it's carp, buffalo, or gar.
  8. I'd swap the Bengals out for the Browns. Burrow at least has a chance to be something and lead his team down the field at the end just to be spoiled by an injured (allegedly) kicker. Mayfield is Manziel 2.0 and their coaches and front office are terrible. How do you have all those weapons on offensive and come away with a whopping 6 points without a terrible plan and captain of the ship? The Ravens are good but they couldn't even manage any garbage time points.
  9. I fish them on my standard frog rod. They're good for pressured fish and clear water when the cover is sparse.
  10. Yes I have done it. A good pair of split ring pliers and the right split ring and it's a quick job. Of course I have a lot of split rings on hand from making baits, so that helps. You need a standard wire and not stainless steel so it can stretch without staying stretched after it's on the hanger. A double hook would be another option if you wanted to go that route.
  11. There's a Johnson County Permit required to fish at Shawnee Mission Lake, Heritage Park, Kill Creek Lake, and Lexington Lake also. I have a buddy that actually does pretty well at Pierson. I've never fished it but he's shown me the pictures.
  12. Been really liking the Frabill Power Extend. Easy to use, lift assist on the yoke for hauling in big fish (which I've used for lifting in some big catfish), lighted for night fishing, and it extends with just the push of a button.
  13. Black with copper blades is a great color for dirty water.
  14. Exactly, muskie teeth cut braid like butter.
  15. I use a Tatula 100 8.1:1 for frogging. Launches a frog and has been great for me.
  16. Mine slips just a touch on a the hookset with a frog. It's cranked down pretty tight, but not locked down with channel locks or anything. I wouldn't be worried about a muskie eating your frog. If one does, you'll probably never get to test the drag anyways.
  17. Haven't had much issue personally.
  18. Fat Impacts and Rage Swimmers are nice. YUM Pulse swimbaits and Strike King Swim N Shiners are 2 I use a lot of too.
  19. I had an owl pick up a jitterbug while I was nightfishing. Had a griebe eat a jerkbait. I snagged a blue heron in the shoulder running the fronts of docks at night with a bladed jig.
  20. I have a guide trip next week on the power plant lake, probably going to be brutal. Seems like everyone always wants to go there when the weather is the worse for it.
  21. The first cooler days are always tough fishing it seems like. I always go out with high expectations because of the nicer weather and I'm almost always disappointed.
