Do Stocked Trout Affect Bass?
Absolutely. They work anywhere bass eat little fish.

Spinning rod love!
I'm not sure I would have caught one of the around 2 dozen fish I caught last Friday if I didn't keep a spinning rod in my hand so much. No hate from me, they both serve their purpose. I love fighting fish on light line and some of my favorite techniques are predominately spinning reel techniques.

New Flash Green Seaguar Smackdown
Just released earlier this year, I managed to get my hands on a spool of Seaguar's new Hi-Vis "Flash Green", Smackdown. I went with 10lb and put it on a ML spinning rod planning on using it for grubs, small boot tail swimbaits, and other finesse baits. The stuff is super thin for one. I thought I'd put it on 2 reels but even with a good amount of backing, my reel ate up the entire 150 yard spool. Had my first chance to use it a couple weeks ago, fishing a 4" Strike King Swim N Shiner on a 1/8oz jighead tied on a leader of 8lb AbrasX. It cast great and never got any wind knots (and there was plenty of wind). Got to catch a bunch of white bass and a couple dozen saugeye with it and it handled them great. I know for a fact I caught several of them because I could see my line move when I never felt anything because of the bow the wind had blown in my line. Going to be great for just that same reason chasing bass too.

Favorite jig and trailer!?
That's what the custom mold I have was modeled after. It sticks out a touch more than the Terminator but they got it pretty close.

Stopped by a little neighborhood pond on the way home that offers public fishing. I caught several small bass on a jerkbait but in one area there was a bunch of spawning crappie that would nose up to the bait but not eat it. I only had one little box with hooks basically but there was one dirty old 3" chartreuse power minnow and a 1/32oz orange jighead with a rusty hook. I cut down the power minnow and put it on the jighead and put it on the medium spinning rod with 8lb fluoro I'd been fishing my jerkbait on and went on to catch probably 15 crappie in short order before I broke the hook on the jighead unhooking one of them. They were aggressive and very pretty fish. Fun sight fishing them in clear water like that. I did get one to eat the jerkbait before I switch to the jig.- Big Topwater Rods
Yes- Need a ML baitcaster rod 7 foot
I have a 7' ML Fenwick (can't remember the exact model off the top of my head). I use it for a cheap BFS rod with 8lb mono. It'll cast a little 1/8oz micro finesse jig nicely.- Big Topwater Rods
I use the 795 for 190 ploppers, 7" Slammers, 6" Punkers, ect.- Keitech Fat Swing Impact 2.8"
I've always used them on an open jighead with a #1 hook. They're a killer when fish are feeding on tiny shad early in the year.- Relativity of lure costs
You can talk about their quality and such as long as it isn't "brand X is junk" type stuff that is just straightforward bashing the brand. Like @Jrob78 said though, start a new topic to do so.- Public pond problems - who to contact?
I'm not saying don't try, but this is the unfortunate truth in this case. If you can present a solid case on how the city is losing significant amounts of revenue because of the problems, you might have a chance, but nothing is going to happen fast. There's a really good lake a hour south of me with a hole in the dam that constantly leaks water. It's a shallow lake already and gets extremely shallow during dry times but has some great fish in it. I spoke with the biologist about it and he said the state is more likely to sell the lake and land to a private individual than it is to spend the money to fix the hole because it's a state lake that generates no revenue.- Bank Fishing Tactics: Fish It Out or Cast and Move
I'll fish each rod I'm carrying unless something dictates otherwise.- New from Northeast Ohio
Welcome!- Relativity of lure costs
The water is also very clear because of the zebra mussels. Using anything that's very visible isn't an option without costing lots of bites.- cast distance
Nobody fibs on a fishing forum ? 30-40 yards is a long ways to cast a bait.- Do Stocked Trout Affect Bass?
1/2 an 18" fish accounts for 9" of a 12" trout, so 3" of a soft trout tail sticking out of bass' throat is enough to kill it? All I know is what I've seen with my own eyes. The state stocks trout at approximately 12", the bass was 18".- Post a photo a day!
I've never seen a kid so excited to have a wood chip out of a calf pen in my life.- Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
Those are their spawning colors. The male white crappies especially will get very dark during the spawn. He's got his tux on, dressed up and ready to go to the dance.- What baits do you wacky rig?
stick worms and trick worms mainly. I love the Havoc Flat Dawg for wacky rigging but it is so fragile that I'd cast about every other one off immediately after rigging it.- Relativity of lure costs
I lose more jerkbaits than any other hard bait by far. I fish them a lot for smallmouth and all of our smallmouth lakes have zebra mussels, so any slight touch of the line to a shell and my bait is gone, either while fighting a fish or sometimes on the next cast. I also deal with a lot of wipers, which take off so sometimes they'll pop the line unless the drag is set very loose. Also fishing in extreme cold I believe is taxing on a bait. Getting a bait we and then bringing it into teen or single digit air temps at times has to be hard on the plastic. Combine that with fishing around rocks a lot, I end up with a lot of broken bills and baits. This was just 1 day, I also lost a Slender Pointer that was obviously not available for the picture. 2 RC STX and 2 custom 110s. For that reason I have no issue dropping 50-100 on a swimbait, but I can't drop $25 on a Vision 110 because I know it probably isn't going to last me long. I've only ever lost 2 swimbaits, and one of those was because of zebra mussels too.- Do Stocked Trout Affect Bass?
One of the lakes I fish a lot in the spring is stocked with trout every fall and spring. I've caught bass as small as 17-18 inches with tails of 12-14 inch trout sticking out of their throats.- (POLL) Do you catch and release or keep fish?
I don't eat any of the fish I catch. I wish I liked to eat them but they don't taste good to me. If someone fishing with me wants to selectively harvest some fish, I'm fine with that though. I'm pretty odd when it comes to fish I guess. I don't like most fish but I do like sushi and things like seared ahi steaks or sandwiches.- Post a photo a day!
No gas necessary when you have a giant pile of dead, dry cedar needles. Would basically be pouring gas on top of lighter fluid. I made sure everything was way further away than I thought it should be before I started it. Burned all the grass around it so that didn't get away from me, and then I started the show. - Other Species Latest Catch Pics Thread
