  1. Her and Lake both have been really worn out by the end of the day the last few days. There's so much room for them both to run around and they're taking full advantage of it.
  2. That's weird, never hooked one on a bladed jig there before. Were you reeling slowly? Only thing I can think is if you were moving it very slowly and the fish tried to pin your bait to the bottom.
  3. Welcome!
  4. Welcome!
  5. Welcome Wes! There's lots of information to read up on right here; http://www.bassresource.com/how-to-fish/
  6. I wouldn't even bother painting it. I have plenty of jigs and bladed jigs with most the paint missing off the head and the fish just keep on eating them.
  7. It will fray and cut your line. You'll be losing fish and baits left and right. There's a reason that insert is in there.
  8. Don't feel bad, @gardnerjigman and I won our weeknight tournament last Thursday with 7lbs 9oz and got big bass with a 2lb 1oz whopper, and we had a 5 fish limit. Sadly enough, this is over 2.5 pounds more than what it's taken to win on that lake in the past.
  9. Says there's on in Aggieville now. I'll have to give it a try next time I'm back visiting family or fishing Milford.
  10. Best underwater footage of a LMB to this date IMO.
  11. Get some lightweight, breathable stuff for warm weather like Frog Toggs.
  12. Go to Wal-Mart or wherever you can buy fishing gear. Buy a rod tip repair kit (around $5), and a lighter if you don't have one. Watch a Youtube video on how to replace a rod tip. Take a couple minutes to carefully remove the old tip with the lighter and some pliers, then add the new tip with the lighter and glue that comes with the kit. It's very simple to do, just make sure not to overheat the existing tip when you're removing it.
  13. Pretty little flathead. Seems that's the size I usually catch on them save a few teen and low 20 pounders I've caught on deeper cranks.
  14. Welcome!
  15. There's such a thing as too fast for me. My boat only runs 55 but I feel most comfortable cruising 40-45. When I fished as a non-boater in boats that ran 70-80 (and a Gambler that was going too fast for me to feel comfortable enough to even glance at the speedo), I never enjoyed going that fast on the water. Maybe I'm a wimp, but I've also been in a boat that hit a wave funny and nearly threw us all out, and we were only going 50. Also speared a wave in a boat much bigger than mine, thought we were sunk. Couple of the scariest moments of my life that would have been worse if we'd been in a bass boat going much faster.
  16. It comes through the nasty stuff better than a jig. I like it better for flipping cedars and bushes with lots of limbs or grass. It's more streamlined so it does like the names says and slithers through the stuff easier. Since you can choose your own hook you can adjust it to the trailer size/type and also adjust your bait size/profile to what the fish want easier than you can with a jig that has a fixed hook.
  17. Send them in and St. Croix will replace them, probably with the new generation Mojo since it's the closest thing. I'd call them first and let them know what's going on but St. Croix has excellent customer service.
  18. I've had some close calls, none as close as prefishing for a tournament on Table Rock in late February. Going straight into the wind and waves, dragging a jig. Got a bite, set the hook, could tell it was a good fish. It started to come up and right when I leaned to stick my rod in the water a wave hit the front of the boat hard. I leaned and just kept on going. I caught the trolling motor and spun so my back was just above the water. I was 16 or 17 and still in good shape so I managed to muscle my way back into the boat with just barely dipping the back of my Guidewear into the 40 something degree water. The fish was still on but had swam about a dozen laps around the trolling motor head. Pulled up the trolling motor, unwrapped the line, landed the fish that was 5 pounds even and still my biggest Table Rock largemouth.
  19. Doco is more of an area lake for me in the summer. I will fish large areas of unproductive water, then hit an area they're loaded up. The areas around the piers always produces fish, certain ones being better than others. Both ends of the dam usually have fish, the east boat ramp always had fish on it, there's lots of brush you can reach from the bank that hold fish. A lot of places that are productive near the shoreline don't have shoreline access though.
  20. I would not put any ethanol in my boat, period. I'll fish with the trolling motor by the ramp if I had to. The stuff is a nightmare for a boat motor.
  21. I think it's going to depend on the type of weeds you're fishing. I couldn't fish them through the water willows I fish, but if you fish weeds that lay flat on the top you should be alright.
  22. The Dobyn's Fury 795 will handle that bait and baits up to 3oz well for when you keep moving up in bait size as you realize what you used to consider a big bait, really isn't that big Welcome to the swimbait addiction.
  23. I believe Big-O uses the 7' 11" H/MF Rage to deal with the monster bass and nasty cover he fishes. They have a neoprene handle on them that some guys love and some hated. I really like the handle on them, but they seemed to have breakage issues when they first came out and a lot of problems with the eyes being way crooked. They resolved the issues but it was too late, too many folks were turned off to them and now they're discontinued. Lots of them still out there for sale at a steal though. St. Croix has some on their website still for $89 with free shipping, but not that model. http://stcroixrods.com/shop/freshwater/rage-casting-rods/
  24. I'm not sure if it's coated or not, it doesn't have the waxy feel that I associate with PP. Have not used it for casting, but it does flip very well. It comes of the reel smoothly which allows for me to be very accurate while pitching into weeds. It does fade a bit with use like any braid, but not nearly as bad as the other braids I've used. Basically it starts to look grey after awhile.
