Panfish fishing with exposed hooks
I always have the hook exposed when I'm fishing for panfish. Even crappie fishing in trees I'd rather lose some baits than miss the fish when they bite. I've never felt like it reduced the number of bites at all.

Buddy caught a faaaaatty
7.6lbs and 20" long? Has to be something close to that length if that fish is only 7.6. That thing is just plain dumb.

Table Rock Guiding Help
Those are some of the best you're going to find on the lake. "Reasonable", is subjective. I tried to save money on a guide once, terrible idea. We basically followed the guides who actually knew what they were doing, still didn't catch any fish, not the ones we were after anyways. Ended up trying to navigate a narrow rapids (on the White River in Arkansas fishing for brown trout), hit a rock and the whole motor jumped off the back of the boat. He was an older guy so my buddy and I drug him and his boat 2 miles upriver back to the ramp and he still wanted us to pay him.

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
Welcome! I'm also in Gardner and even fish Spring Hill occasionally, although I would a lot more if I was allowed to put my kayak on it. We're lucky to have one of the most active and informative local threads that I've found anywhere on a fishing forum, welcome to it!

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
I got an awesome report from Mound City earlier this week. I'd love to get down there tomorrow but no way that's happening.

I'm going to try to get to Lone Star on my one partial day off tomorrow because it gets a good early bite but I doubt it happens.

Swimbaits
5-8 inches is the sweet spot for me depending on the type of bait.

You can wade but you will need waders. The water isn't up, the bank is eroding away along that side. It was much clearer than it has been this past week and would definitely qualify as Kansas Clear. With the weather ND water warming up, the fish are venturing further away from the warm water, so directlyin the hot water over the fence hasn't been the best area lately.
