  1. I second the gently used suggestion. I spent a lot of time looking for mine, but finally found it, barely past the break in for about half price of new. I did have to add my own electronics, but not a big deal when I got such a huge break on the price.
  2. Enough to start a tackle shop. 7 or 8 extra large binders that will barely zip shut, and another half dozen gallon ziplock bags that won't seal. If I don't bring it, that will be the bait I need.
  3. I don't have the Supreme but I have the Supreme XT and really like it. I've never owned a Quantum baitcaster that I liked.
  4. Let me know, I'll be home all day tomorrow and have a minute to do them.
  5. Yes, you can easily modify the mold to fit wire. I make a weedless one with a double fiber guard on it, but a Ned Rig with a TRD or 1/2 a Zinker is surprisingly difficult to snag when you have the right weigh/hook combination, so I don't even bother with it.
  6. I think all the rest of the rules are pretty standard tournament rules, minus the getting out of the boat rule, which I really don't have an issue with. I've never done a length format tournament since I've just begun fishing from a kayak but again have no issues with it since it's just for fun.
  7. They make a good bladed jig trailer or a stand alone bait on a jighead or splitshot rig. You can put them on the back of a spinnerbait also.
  8. I paddled several miles with and then back against the current of the Kansas River last fall in my kayak. Other than wishing I had gloves by the end of the day, it wasn't bad at all. As for positioning, I'm a fan of dropping an anchor and working an area thoroughly, or using my paddle to make small adjustments while the wind blows me along. Letting my yak get stopped by emergent weeds, or paddling the nose onto the shoreline works well also, along with tossing a rope around a tree or laydown.
  9. I have lakes by me that I can do 50+ in a half day without really trying. We've done the big bass contest on here where it's whoever catches the biggest fish as compared to the state record where it was caught. Example, state record is 10 pounds, you catch a 6 pounder, your fish was 60% of the state record. That's about the fairest way I could see doing it. If you wanted to do the highest average percentage of someone's top 5 fish, that might work.
  10. I think the fish at the local practice hole need more food or thinned out, they sure have the "big head, little body", look going on. Might have to dump some shiners in there or something. At any route, I caught several more yesterday, along with a few bull gills when I tried a little float-n-fly action.
  11. Well, I'm doing my best to make good on my 2016 goal of learning how to fish a drop shot. They're not monsters, but any fish is huge when you catch it doing something you're trying to learn at. I was using a 7' 3" ML/XF Ethos with a 25 size President spooled with 5lb Maxima ultragreen with a YUM Warning shot in Oxblood/red.
  12. They do. My wife actually talked me into buying my boat because she thought my last one was too small. She even rode with me the 14 hour round trip to go get it. I already bought it once, but decided I wanted my 9" Slammer to have a new look. Thanks to @Doc-Drew, it now has a nice, new paint job that should get all the big girls attention.
  13. Our state record white bass is nearly 6 pounds and 3 pounders aren't uncommon, so it's possible. Aren't they Sunshine bass that you have in Florida? I know it depends on which species was the male and which was the female when they make the hybrid on which version you end up with.
  14. It helps with lots of baits, but anything Zman is not in that group of baits it helps with. I started out using a double keeper style like the Gopher heads, but it was more a pain than anything. They work great for grubs though. I still use the same hook with either head though.
  15. I'm pretty new to the kayak bassin scene, but I don't feel there's a need for one, not on my kayak anyways. Part of the main appeal to me is not having to worry about a motor or batteries when I go. I can break my paddle down stuff it in my rod pod so all I have to do is cart my kayak where ever I'm fishing and reassemble my paddle and I'm ready to go. I have a bass boat and a johnboat also, so I'm not fishing bigger bodies of water out of my kayak, which is the only reason I would consider it.
  16. That was my first thought as well but the lack of solid lines below the lateral line and the single tooth patch along with the body shape really left me wondering. Whatever it was, it was only 18.25" long and crazy fat. Our hybrids normally look more like these ones.
  17. Did I catch a misshapen wiper? Or a monstrosity of a white bass? It actually went 4lb 12oz on the Berkley digital scale.
  18. The Mag wart does have a similar action but for some reason does not have the fish catching power of the original size. I believe it's because they're mainly emulating a craw and in most cases, a bass will not target the biggest craws because they're much harder to capture and consume. That being said, I've seen some very large fish caught on the Mag warts.
  19. I wasn't trying to be negative, it sounds like a lot of fun. It was a legitimate question because it's not a level playing field by any stretch of the imagination. We've had tournaments here with 3 boats during our Thursday night tournaments so if you come up with a way to level it out, and as long as it's just for bragging rights, I'd do it.
  20. That didn't take long, I'm still waiting for mine
  21. I wish I liked to eat fish so I could help cull some of the little bass out of a couple of the local lakes. Nothing wrong with keeping some fish to eat, just practice selective harvest. Release the big ones to get bigger and only keep what you can eat that day. This is a very sensitive subject for sure, but some fish have to be removed to keep a fishery healthy in a majority of cases. I don't have any problem with keeping fish like I described, it's the "gotta fill the freezer", types that irritate me. Plus, in Kansas anyways, if you have a freezer full of fish, you're likely over your possession limit (3 times the daily creel limit).
  22. I pour my own without the collar. Super simple to slide the bait on and the flat bottom allows maximum surface contact so I glue them on and they stay put.
