  1. I also agree a little shorter rod would probably be better. I personally use a 7' 3" H/F Ethos and it's been the best frog rod I've ever owned.
  2. I don't have anything against it, and not poking fun at you C&G, but this cracked me up.
  3. We have threadfin and gizzard shad and the fish in the original picture are neither. The mouths are way too big. Even a foot long gizzard shad doesn't have a mouth that size compared to it's body.
  4. Agreed. I've gone almost completely that direction with all my spinning reels now minus my one Stradic CI4. Hard to spend the money on another reel when you get so much for the price of a President.
  5. I think this would be one of those times I'd be blurring out the background of my pictures, just in case. Couple of great fish off the same area, and the scary thing is, neither was overly fat, so they could easily be DD's in a month. I know I'm jealous!
  6. Carp suspend all the time in our lakes. Same thing for big gar and catfish. I was going to suggest a swimbait like a Keitech on a jighead but a fishhead spin would be pretty similar.
  7. Shop called, be done by Wednesday at the latest ??
  8. I'm hoping this is just a seal but anyone have any thoughts what might cause this? It's a 2012 Mercury Pro XS and it's leaking out from under the prop and is pooled behind the prop as well.
  9. Country miles are all we have in KS.
  10. Not yet but there's a good chance I'll be at Kill Creek Wednesday after work.
  11. Red's is a great shop. We were having a rough trip at Bull Shoals a few years ago and decided to stop in there and regroup a little. The gentlemen working at the counter pointed me to a bait I'd heard about but never tried, the Keitech Swing Impact. He said to put it on an A rig or plain jighead and just reel it slow. I bought a few bags, and the trip turned around dramatically for us. I think we both bought 10 more bags that night after we got off the water. I think that's one of the biggest things you can get from the small shops, actual local knowledge.
  12. 6K a week?? I need to work on my camera skills... I don't do it to try to get viewers though, it's just fun to go through and watch the recap of my trips and catch some of my dumb moves on camera.
  13. Had a pretty productive day on the water at La Cygne last Thursday. No monsters, but lots of fish to keep it interesting. Welcome to the forum! Olathe is a tough customer early in the year. I normally stay away until late March/early April, at least until the water temp is above 50. It's almost always pretty stained and that cold, muddy water is about as tough as it gets. I've caught quite a few off the dam at Gardner fishing from the bank early in the year. Douglas is a pretty sure bet, just fish along the edge of the piers towards the ends and you'll find some fish as well as the dam that will be loaded with fish soon, but they're almost all small. Prairie Center ponds are both pretty good, as is Mize or Lake Lenexa.
  14. M-F 8-5 I believe. They have a website but there's lots of stuff in the store not listed on there. http://mondotackle.com/
  15. Once they turn into advertisements mixed with a little fishing, I'm out.
  16. But, but, it does stuff no other jerkbaits does I like the size and taller profile, but to say no other jerkbait has a flutter and slow rise? Come on man.
  17. I bought one, and really like it so far. I'm one of those weirdos that likes the foam handles though. It launches baits in the 1-3 ounce range a mile though.
  18. 15lb Big Game is about $7 for a 1/4lb spool everywhere around here, and you can find it everywhere.
  19. Mondo Tackle in Lenexa or Roger's in Liberty, both have great selection and lots of stuff you won't find at BPS or Cabela's. I shop at Mondo Tackle about 15 minutes from my house because he carries lots of stuff that I can't get at the BPS I have to drive by to get there. One of the few times a small shop has by far the better prices too. He carries one of my favorite jerkbaits, the Luck-E-Strike STX for $7, it's $10 at BPS. The other nice thing is, anything I want that he doesn't carry, he'll order in for me. It takes awhile sometimes, but it still gets there. He also carries lots of homegrown baits from local builders, which is always nice to get stuff that's not mass produced.
  20. Congrats and that is a giant crappie!
  21. As you and I well know though, you're not just paying for that "8-12 inch piece of wood/plastic". R&D, patents, superior parts and materials, meticulous attention to details, they all have to count for something. I know there's people out there who think it's crazy to spend more than $10 on a bait (my dad about died when I told him how much each of the Deps 175s I own cost), but I enjoy fishing them so I'll continue buying the big baits. The way I see it, I'm not going to poke fun at someone who loves fishing an Ugly Stick, that's what they enjoy then good for them, doesn't make it wrong because it's not for me. The fish don't care how you spend your money, so spend it on what makes you happy and don't worry about what others are doing.
