  1. Shakyhead by a landslide. Trick Worm, stick worm, or finesse worms 90% of the time.
  2. High 40's is about the minimum for buzzbaits. They don't become a very good option around here in the spring until the high 50's though.
  3. Jerkbaits are my first option right now. Water temps are ranging from the low to high 40's depending on what part of our lakes you're on. If you get back in a shallow area where the sun has been shining for a few hours, a spinnerbait is probably a good option. I fished a pond yesterday for about 20 minutes and did well with a dropshot, which I hate fishing, but it was the only way to stay out of the weeds.
  4. Yes, I use to have a 7' ML/F and 7' M/F, neither was a very good shakyhead rod. The Avid is a much better option, even the Mojo 6' 8" M/F would be a better option. I have the Mojo, it's a very good all around spinning rod.
  5. You've got me by about a year. Our area is very pro-law enforcement, so I'm pretty lucky there. The last place I worked, not so much.
  6. It's a waste of breath too in my experience.
  7. A-rig if it's legal. A War Eagle jigging spoon or jighead with a grub or paddletail would be another good option.
  8. I'll be in Oklahoma at the Classic when trout season opens.
  9. The link in my first post on here is KC area guys from all over within an hour or so of KC. Nobody, but I just put it out there because I know there are people like that out there so I make sure new people are aware before I take them anywhere to avoid that awkward situation.
  10. It's 10lb test/2lb diameter braid with 8-10 pound fluoro leader. You won't have any problems with hooksets if you switch to the braid.
  11. The member map went away for awhile but a new one will be replacing it eventually. A lot of guys list their location though. I have an empty seat in my boat a lot of the time but I only fish during the week, specifically Thursday and Friday right now. If that's not an issue, I have no problem taking new people fishing, as I've fished with majority of everyone that's a regular on the KC area thread. Only thing is you have to be good with dogs, because my Golden goes with me every time, and you can't be anti-police, it makes for a hostile environment in my boat. Like I said, if you follow and contribute to the KC thread for a little bit, someone will have an empty seat and take you out somewhere.
  12. The new version that is supposed to be made similar to the Pre-Rapala warts is a much better bait than when they were first reintroduced. They've done better with the new colors and the baits swim much more like the old ones did. I think that probably has something to do with why there's been a drop in the price of the originals.
  13. Welcome!
  14. Same reason you want a silent squarebill sometimes, pressured fish or fish in neutral feeding moods that don't want the loud rattles, just the vibration of the bait itself. It's a profile that is hard to replicate with a swimjig or swimbait also if fish are really keyed in on smaller shad. I've had the best success with it in clearer water, especially when the fish are pressured and holding in submerged grass.
  15. I only know the color because I fish them in the very clear waters at Table Rock, Bull Shoals, and Beaver, where minute color differences can make all the difference. I've spent enough days watching the other guy in the boat catching fish on a very similar colored bait on those lakes to have learned that one the hard way. A lot of those days, it was V38 that was doing it while I was fishing the only wart I had (brown craw).
  16. Great fish Goose, but that's a brown scale craw colored wart. The V38 green crawdad doesn't have the scale pattern on the back/sides. I'm sure that new V38 catches fish too, but it sure doesn't for me. Only fish I can ever remember catching on it was a big, fat stocker rainbow. I have some in that color that a buddy painted for me on the one knocker wart blanks and they catch fish very well. He got the color perfect though.
  17. I have a 6' 8" M/F "Wacky Style" Mojo with a 35 size Pfluegar Supreme XT that skips baits very well and has enough backbone to pull them back out of the cover. Most any spinning rod will skip pretty well with the right lure and line though.
  18. Yes, they were loaded in on little spot. Unfortunately I was with my wife so I didn't get to catch any of them because there was no way for me to get them home and in the deep freeze without her knowing about it. I'm probably going to go back Thursday and try to get some then.
  19. Trout season is almost upon us! Anyone that likes catching hard hitting, hard fighting fish on light line, your wait is almost over! https://ks-shawneecountyparksandrec.civicplus.com/DocumentCenter/View/1381
  20. Welcome to the forum Rick! We have a very active group of members in your area and there's guys offering open back seats in their boats pretty regularly here; I've very close in Gardner. There's several members in the OP/Shawnee/Olathe areas as well. Check that thread out and I'm sure you'll find someone that will get you out on the water.
  21. I fished the Digger in the smaller size a couple weeks ago. It cast very well and has the subtle wobble like the DT6, but with the louder rattles that you get with plastic baits. I had a couple fish that I'm sure were white bass hammer the thing but didn't hook up. I have the Gilly color, which wasn't really the right bait for fish feeding heavily on shad at the time, but I'm sure in about a month it's going to be getting tore up.
  22. Have not caught a bass on one yet, but this dude ate it about as deep as a drum can get a crank, not even sure how this happens.
  23. Those are some great looking 'eyes! I'll have to show this to my dad. He's a walleye guy and every time I get him to fish for walleye with me where we're "fishing too shallow and too fast with too big of lures", we catch way more fish than we do jigging crawlers or trolling.
