  1. This. I know at least 4 other local guys that have them along with the one I own. Great rod for squarebills to mid range cranks. If you're going to fish deep cranks a lot they have a bigger cranking rod as well.
  2. I must be born with it because I can't control the urge to go fishing and the longer I go, the worse it gets. I'm sure the desire can be taught or learned though. As for winning tournaments, I've always been competitive and want to win anytime it's a competition regardless of what I'm doing.
  3. Man I should have had 2 big ones at Gardner yesterday and I lost both of them. First one even gave me 2 chances. I did get a good video of her tossing my bait back at me though.
  4. No, not at all, just trying to insert a bit of humor before this topic flames out as it inevitably will. In this instance they're dealing with a very established and thriving population of 4 different species of predator fish. I'm thinking saying they'll be fighting an uphill battle would be an understatement.
  5. Happens all the time, the bass and flathead love them and they're very sought after (and easily seen), by bowfishermen
  6. Agreed, but they're established over a few decades now. Seems like it's probably a little too little too late at this point. I'd think you'd be better off trying to improve habitat for the native species and continue with supplemental stocking of them to try to improve their populations while loosening restrictions on the predator species.
  7. I like the Rage Craw and Menace and the Zman Turbo CrawZ. Twin tail grubs work well also.
  8. Sounds bad to me. Kill off a bunch popular sportfish for some minnows??
  9. I've been using it for 2 years now and like it pretty well. It seems to have flattened out pretty bad and I don't get quite the distance I use to but still cast plenty far, but not as far as nanofil does. I have Seaguar Kanzen on another rod and I've been really impressed with the casting distance, diameter, and how well it's stayed round so I might be trying that on my Ned rig rod once it's time to respool.
  10. There is another video of them out there. Most of their baits have a large, single hook on the back. Makes sense, I can only imagine how hard it would be to remove a treble hook from a ticked off sharks mouth. I could also see doing it without hooks and just enjoying the strikes.
  11. Harrison Machine Shop off 151st and Harrison in Olathe fixed the transom on my johnboat when it got torn. They did a good job and were fairly priced. You could dump the boat in Olathe or Cedar and fish while they fix the trailer.
  12. Shakyhead trick worm in green pumpkin/red flake has probably caught me more fish at LOZ than anything else. A PB&J football or finesse jig is usually really good too, as is a wacky rig around the docks. A spook seems to be really hard for the spots on that lake to resist.
  13. This is where my wife caught most of her bass, just look for the bridges and have her cast right up on each side. That's where her PB came from on a black and blue wacky rig. It probably would have been half a pound heavier if it hadn't coughed up a 12-15 inch long eel while she was fighting it. There really isn't anywhere on that lake that doesn't look fishy though. Your chariot unless he's upgraded, it really was a nice ride especially having the wife too, plenty of room for her to get comfortable when she got tired of fighting fish
  14. I have a 100mph suit, but it's not worth the money IMO. It's nice don't get me wrong, but the seams are coming undone around the cuffs, the zipper sucks, the hood constantly wants to come unzipped (it's removable). This is the second one as I had to return the first one for the same issues. If I had to do it over again I would probably just buy the suit from Academy and save myself a big chunk of money.
  15. Catfish are very sensitive to smell, they have taste buds over their entire bodies in fact, but the fact that they only eat stinky, dead stuff is a farce. Bigger catfish especially are predators and their diets will reflect that. I've never caught a catfish over 10 pounds even on anything that was foul smelling, they've always been on something still alive, fresh dead, or artificial. Right now is a prime time to catch big catfish on lures actually as they prepare to spawn and get very protective of their spawning areas.
  16. I use wheel weights to make large bank sinkers for river catfishing and that's about it. The hard lead is too much of a hassle to deal with for pouring smaller jigheads, especially if you're doing heads that have collars or keepers.
  17. JB Weld makes a product just for aluminum. I used some on my old johnboat and it fixed a much more serious tear than what it sounds like you're dealing with and never leaked at all.
  18. The Flea Market on here is a great place to get a bargain on some good baits.
  19. Loosen your drag and take it easier next time you're fighting a big fish on treble hooks. You don't want to go up too big with a walking bait or you'll mess with the action. VMC Spark Points are a good, heavy duty hook that I've had success with on walking baits though.
  20. We did it all the time when I worked at Cabela's. There was always stacks of stuff behind the reel counter with Post It notes of who it belonged to. As long as they get their money the store doesn't care.
  21. Unless you were about to starve I can't think of a good reason to eat an 18 pound bass. That fish has to taste so nasty and have such high mercury levels. Could have taken pictures, measurements and released it to get bigger and gotten a good replica mount made. Most likely someone has caught that fish at least once in it's life and released it so he had a chance to catch that monster, but now nobody else has the chance. Maybe the fish was hooked badly and wouldn't have survived regardless, who knows, just hate to see a monster that nobody else will have a chance to tangle with.
  22. Don't fish where there's zebra mussels or around heavy cover either. I get what you're saying, but there's no way to eliminate the loss of fish. Of course, if you didn't lose a big one now and then the sport sure wouldn't be nearly as interesting would it?
  23. Exactly, they have pretty small mouths. This is a smallmouth and spot from Table Rock, the smallmouth's mouth was actually bigger than the spots. The coloration says largemouth to me too. It just looks like a lit up largemouth that most likely came from clean, clear water. The fact that there's not supposedly any spots in Arizona helps too. Now if you fish a lake where both exist and you catch one like this, I still have no idea is this was a spot, largemouth, or possibly a hybrid. It came from Table Rock, where Meanmouth hybrids happen often, but that's a smallmouth/spot hybrid. That one still to me looks like a largemouth/spot hybrid and some of the local guys said they see them occasionally.
