Fishing ponds just after ice out?
I've never tried the reaction bite before when the water is that cold. I'll try it tomorrow in my pond. I've got a red eye shad and I live in northeast Kansas and I'll give it a try. I think I would fish a suspending jerkbait. You might have to try different depth sizes depending on the pond. On my pond for instance i would be able to fish a slender pointer 78 but a pointer 100 might go a little too deep and give me problems.

FINALLY DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never seem to make headway with the thumb trick, but I know lots of guys swear by it. go figure. I usually carry a dental pick and it clears up a nest right away. If the line gets folded completely in two then it's just a matter of time when that will snap. On the overhand cast I cast as if I am holding a magazine under my casting arm and don't want to drop it. It works.

Name your jerk-bait
If you have a bait that the ball bearings get stuck in the tail. Take a paperclip, straighten it out. Sharpen one end a little bit. Heat it red hot and push it into the lure body from the top of the back, centered, through the bait just a wee bit further forward than the rear point where the balls get stuck. Snip off any extra with a gate cutter. Put a drop of sealer or cement over the insertion point. That should keep the balls from rolling quite so far back. Hope that is helpful.

Which baits are you wanting? I may have what you're wanting. I have the mission fish plastics. Is that what you are wanting or do you want a high end hard bait ?

For Us KC Area Guys - Fishing Reports
A Johnson County fishing permit ? Is that right? You mean when you fish in Johnson County you not only have to have a state fishing license but a Johnson County fishing permit also? How much does that cost ? WOW !

Hey guys! Tell me how you view women fishing with you?
I am building jigs for a lady pro. It's fun. My wife joined the club this year to fish with me. I am ecstatic. I hope I don't flub it up. I think a women's forum should be just that if that's what you want. What you have is a forum titled women's but men go there. The same men who say they respect women. It's sort of like saying I'll respect you as long as I can still come barging in whenever I want.I think this minimizes women participation. I know the women as a group are probably smaller. I would be interested to see just how it did if it was locked to men from viewing. I'll admit I have been there to read but I would never think of posting there. I don't think I have ever posted there. In sum I think a realistic perception is that it is what it is and all you really can do is get in there and keep putting your best foot forward and maybe sooner or later others will follow. I wish you well.

Keeping your tackle hidden from wifee?
My wife has better equipment than I do. I never hide it but she always needs something new. It's a great arrangement. She fishes avids while I have to fish falcons so who's counting?

spawning depth
I believe there are a whole lot more spawning beds out there deeper that you can't see than there are that you can see. Sunlight penetration, wave protection, and temp will usually be the deciding factors.

Any one?
I hadn't heard about this but I am not in the least bit surprised. If they were taking the fish out of there it's a bit difficult to explain without stepping on someones toes. If subsistence was really the motivating factor I don't believe it would have ended this way. I think this is normal human behavior, monkey see monkey do. The fish and game biologists will objectively manage the fishery to the best of their ability and set regulations. Personally I believe freshwater fishing for food is a risky endeavor. If you don't count your time then maybe it makes sense. I have a hunch many of those fish will probably be eaten but not before the fisherman gets his ego stroked. It's the big hunter/gatherer hero thing. Satisfy that and then we will eat. They can hurt the fishery but my guess is it's not likely.

Who Pushes You To Be Better?
I push myself to improve. My entire existence derives meaning from my association with fishing. I participate in forums, read books, and fish as much as I can.

Hook upgrade ?
When you change hooks on a squarebill for instance to a larger size and a better hook do you replace both hooks? What if the size you want won't work very good if you change them both, so you just change one. Do you put the bigger, better hook on the front or the back ?

Who'd You Get
I was over at the Olathe store last night and got acquainted with Mike Webb. He gave a good presentation on electronics. He is a local down on Table Rock and also a guide. I went there specifically so I could visit with him about his K.A.S.T program. I'm thinking I'm gonna get involved in that. It's a cool program. I'm going back over there Sunday afternoon to hear Brent Chapman. I want to talk to him about Tightlines. I fished around him in a few Heartland Tourneys and fo sho, he is a stick.

what do colors imitate
That's correct. THe color black will stand out in contrast as long as some natural light is penetrating. If a black bait won't reflect UV light then at the point where natural light gets filtered out, that is the point where a black bait begins to be invisible or blend in with the lack of natural light or darkness. Most guys that fish black do it in the light of day. If you fish black at night you need the moonlight to allow for a contrast or your bait just needs to be oversized to improve on moving water, ie. making sound waves. I don't think many guys fish a black bait on a dark night that is downsized, do you?

When your lure isn't producing
I usually select a color I have confidence in based on water and light conditions. I keep at least 4 different presentation styles on my deck. I rotate through them rapidly a few times until I can determine if fish are present and how they are positioned, their mood or activity level. I may be throwing a squarebill or a buzzbait or twitchin a frog but I will also pitch some dark colored plastic or a jig/trailer combo before I leave. Color is not too big of an issue.
