  1. Yes, the Fibers are basically the G2 blanks with no name components. I use the G2 704 for a short frogging rod. So IMO the Fiber 704 would do just fine. I have the Fiber in the 754, 744, and 703. All awesome rods. You will be happy with them.
  2. As others have stated, you are good throwing baits up to 2oz. I personally would cast overly hard, more of a lot cast and you should be fine.
  3. I'm using 12lb SX1 with 8lb Sniper leader. Work's great for me in clear and stained water. I use the Crazy Alberto knot and as long of leader as I can. Just long enough the knot doesn't enter the line roller on my reel.
  4. I wish all handles were like the old Cielo, L&T, and Greens. Best handles other than the locking cork which had a tendency to crack in their older age.
  5. All your bottom contact stuff. Casting or spinning. If you can only afford 2, then for me it would be my MH jig/t-rig casting rod and my shake head/wacky rig/senko spinning rod.
  6. I like the 704 for frogs also, but it's no Magic Stick. The rod length does take a few to get used to. I'm only 5'11".
  7. I have both. These were the first 2 rods I purchased from Irod before I had any sort of relationship with them. As a few guys have stated so far, Fred's Magic Stick is just that; Magic. It can handle a variety of functions and do them all very well. It is a 4 power/Heavy rod though, so it's limitations is under 1/2oz for sure. For me it is a frog rod first and anything else second. The Dobyn's guys will argue the 735 is a better frog rod or at least equivalent, but I haven't found a better frog rod for the money. Of course "for the money" is subjective. Bub's punch rod is a beast of a rod and is perfect for punching up to 2oz weights. These rods are plenty sensitive and there is no need to worry there. They are fairly lightweight, though that doesn't matter to me as much. I have Zillion's on both. What I love most is that when you are hooked up these rods have the horse power to get them out of the thickest stuff. If you want workhorses for the heavy-lifting, trench digging, dirty work, then these rods are for you.
  8. Used it a long time ago. Good line. I use Sunline Sniper now. IMO Sunline is a much better line.
  9. I did. 4 times or something like that. I worked for Bass Pro around 2005 and had all their rods/reels minus the Johnny Morris Series of rods. Gave all to my dad after I started working at Cabela's in 2008. I had a mix of their Prodigy, Mag Touch, and Fish Eagle rods. No XML's. I had all Prodigy baitcasters and spinning reels. After that I switched over to Daiwa S and Light & Tough rods and started adding Zillions, Sols, and Fuegos. I had an Daiwa Ike Sig. Rod and a Steez. Then I added St. Croix Mojo, Rage, Legend Tournament, Elite and Extreme. Added some Tierra's and Advantage's. For some reason I thought I had too many rods so I sold everything and bought 6 Megabass rods. Four X4's and 2 XX's. Reels with those rods were Pixy, PXR, Steez, Zillion 50th, IP79, Emeraldas, and then what seemed like a different reel every month. One of the X4's was the Destruction. It was one bad stick, but I didn't love it for frogging and I broke it punching. So I bought 2 Irod's. Fred's Magic Stick for frogging and Bub's Punch Rod. I had too high end of gear for ME (my personal opinion) and was too worried about scratching reels and how my rods were laying in the boat or truck, I knew I needed a change. After dealing with Matt Newman a couple times I decided to sell all my high end gear and bought A few more Irod's and used Zillions, Pixies/PXR (hard to let go), and new Tatula Ct's. I then became an Irod Pro Staff member and now own an arrangement of Fibers, Genesis 2s, and Crushers. I am very happy with Irod. My next couple I buy are going to be Air's. I fully believe that all rods are created different and appreciate how the high end gear feels on the water, but I have to say that i have caught more fish over the last year with my Irod's than any of the others. In any season. That being said my father in law uses the "can't mention their name" rod brand and does very well. And other guys in my club and league do very well using everything from Scheel's specials to NRX's. To each his own.
  10. Irod Fred's Crank Launcher Jr. Can handle 5XD's, DT16's, and DT10's with ease. Not sure about DT20's, but I have thrown DD22's and 6XD's. I wouldn't recommend this rod for those, but if you only throw 15ft+ divers once and awhile then it definitely fits the bill. Since you said you want a rod around 8ft. Then I say go with Fred's Crank Launcher which is 7'11".
  11. Appreciate the info guys. Seems like I need to start pegging more and using my swing heads while not letting it settle all the way to the bottom.
  12. What types of sinkers are you guys throwing around chunknown rock? Seems like no matter what size, or style I throw I get hung up. Round rock, boulders, and rip-rap are not an issue.
  13. Best bet is 2 different rods. Unless you can source an X4 Destruction or Mat Bucker
  14. I would stay under a 1/2oz in total weight. My experience is that rod ratings are all over the place.
  15. I hate to admit this, but I bought one for a trunk combo. They are junk.
  16. I don't think so. I would be too heavy for 1/4oz jig + trailer. 3/8oz jig + trailer is it's lowest limit if you really needed to in a pinch. If you are going to do anything lighter than 1/2oz on a consistent basis, get the 744.
  17. I own the 754 in the Fiber and Genesis 2 and 744 in the Fiber and had the 764 in the Genesis 2 until I broke it when I accidentally laid it down and it got caught under a boat cleat and I lifted the rod up and broke it in half . I replaced it with the Crusher 764 because I wanted a more traditional flipping stick.
  18. Yep. I have both the SV103 7.9 and the Tatula SV 6.3. The SV103 is a nicer reel. No doubt about it.
  19. Irod Fiber 764 Andy's Light Flip/Junk Rod/Heavy or Irod Fiber 754 Fred's Magic Stick/ Heavy or Irod Fiber 744 Andy's Junk Rod Jr. All awesome rods, especially for the money. Same blank as the Genesis 2's but with no name components.
  20. My personal opinion is that there isn't enough difference to me to justify the Tatulas anymore; CT's or Originals. The Fuego is easily as good as a caster. Now if we throw the Tat SV into the mix, that reel is head and shoulders above the CT's; Fuego and Tatula. I'm a Daiwa "Fanboy" and I don't see the T-Wing as being such a big deal good or bad. My preferred reels are still the OG Zillions. So I guess what I am saying is that for the money and what you get, I would go with the Fuego.
  21. Irod Fred's Magic Stick. You won't be dissapointed.
