  1. First check gas pump that ball up and see if it fires. Then pull your sparkers and check for spark make sure you ground to block. Everything good there get your self to PEP Boys or some place and buy a $10 compresun tester. The way it quit sounds like a ring. Yes they will do this without a sound. If theres a 10% difference in compressun you have problems. Garnet
  2. Thread it down the guides, open the bail, tye around spool, place spool label up on floor, close bail. Hold line in a napkin firmly and start reeling. After about 10 turns stop drop the line down and look for pig tails. If not fill to recommendation. 1/8" from edge. If your line pig tails turn spool over. Garnet
  3. You can cast power pro a mile. Your problem is proably snap casting with either spinning or casting. It's all braid Stren Suffix tuff are the only ones I've tried just cast normal and no problem. Garnet
  4. Most times doing all that junk to stop the jump is worse than just controlling the jump. Theres a point between pulling the fish towards you and slack line thats were you need to be when the fish is in the air. That drop your rod and stick in the water makes good T.V. but it's junk. Garnet
  5. C&R has went to far. Theres several generation that believe anything but catch and release is bad. On most lakes bass would not be the specie I chosse to catch and consume but I have and will continue on certain lakes. Nobody should feel bad about selective harvest. Garnet
  6. I've never fish a lake this small. But start were you caught those better quality fish and work out. Little depressions on the flat can be huge or just a dark line. When you get to the weed edge say in 10 ft look for areas were the weed comes up 4-5 ft. it might only be 1 ft deeper or just a little more rock. This scattered grass can be good. Garnet
  7. Sorry Shellback I mean when the hook is removed wieght 30 sec or a minute for the bleeding to stop. This is the same as snapping a pic takes a minute. You must remember these are dead fish you can't make a mistake. In Avids case he has to release. In my case I want to get the fish to the wieght scales alive if I'm fun fishing I'm eating it. Never once have I had a fish bleeding badly that I put strait in the live well survive. By getting the bleeding stopped and then get in the livewell I've had maybe 20 % survive. Better than nothing. Garnet
  8. You need to go to B.A.S.S. site and look in conservation for there book "Keeping Bass Alive" were they decribe a non iondized salt dip to maintain salt level in blood. Also as a kid the aquruim guy told me to put my gold fish in a salt dip if they started to roll on me. It almost allways worked. Garnet
  9. Most of my experience is with tubes and smallies. I cut the hook so the fish can eat even a 4/0 gami jig hook can cause problems. The side cutters work for throat hooked fish. Glenn I'm talking about fish bleeding heavily if you hold that fish about the same amount time as it takes to snap a photograph before putting them in the livewell I've had low % survive to be released in couple hours. Quickly putting fish into livewell that are bleeding heavily never survive. A low salt solution in your livewell helps. Garnet
  10. Skip the palamar and lern the san diago jam knot. It tightens down nicer and no line lays across other line. Garnet
  11. I'm glad that all my lakes are public and don't get into this situation. I carry offset sidecutters to cut those hooks with out cutting gills. The offset sidecutters let you see better. Then hold the fish for a few minutes to allow clotting and release. If you release to quickly they will bleed out. If this didn't work. I would retrieve the bass and make a small cut and remove to air sack. It's up close to the spine the fish will sink and the turtles will look after it. Garnet
  12. Yes constant speed. Had mine in last year for the same thing. Board ($$$). Garnet
  13. Stuck on constant on is the board. Lots of money. Garnet
  14. Casting pitching and flipping 35 ft over and over is trick casting. Real fishing every cast is different Dandillions make great tragets then you throw in left fade and right fade. Get the lawn furniture into the game. Those 2 step stools make a good casting platform. Just look and shoot look and shoot. Garnet
  15. It was a full moon and I hate fishing the full moon. I try real hard to get my fish in the first couple hours because the've been feeding all night and don't have feed thru the day. Then I get into heavy slop the rest of the day. Garnet
  16. Because it was making noise under power and stop when you let off. Lower Unit. Find a biz dealership and they will have rebuilt ones. Do the compression check if all cylinders are not within 10% don't buy the lower unit. Garnet
  17. I read them all, both of KVD's books are great Denny Bruer book is good Buck Perry's book is the very best but you need to read it and update his writing to today technogies witch makes it a very hard read. All the Infishermen series. Then my parents are yard sale buffs and I get them to buy every fishing book they see. I'm an all spiecies angler so I read a crappie book that had great stuff on logging chains and a walleye book that went right into anchoring technic (maybe Anderson) so don't limit your self. Garnet
  18. Really large fish can clamp down on a jig or any bait and you can't move the bait in there mouth. Your goal is to get the fish to open his mouth well shaking it's head. Thats what hooks fish. You want a good solid hookset to the power piont of the rod. General straight up is best with 60 - 90 degree hooks. You are getting hook rotation when the fish is opening it's mouth. If you get a direction clue then go opposite direction. Those cannon hooksets with gaint follow thru are very streaky an lot of times you spook the fish and they spit and bolt you don't get the head shake. When you get good mechanics don't mess if you hit a lttle slump. Garnet Garnet
  19. Looks like a market for somebody. I'm heading off to the the car speed shops to make a fooll out of my self again lol. Garnet
  20. One thing with the fluke type baits is there bulk getting in the way of solid hooksets. I wish that I could explain the mechnical advantage to the Bass Pro Shop copper head hook Dahishe (spelling) has same that is a little better. They have a very long 60 degree jig hook with a copper spring. This long part creates a quick rotating hook in the mouth. EWG advantage is that big round part giving room for bulky baits there disadvantage is not having great rotating so no mechcanial advantage. Garnet
  21. I wouldn't feel guilty because it's not against the law and if I was fishing a big money deal guess were this cat would be fishing. I went to B.A.S.S. Ontario Canada Conservation Seminar it was mostly Master degree scientic presenting there findings. 1 was about bed fishing and the effects on successful spawning it was set up with Sir Sanford Fleming here and a university in Illionis they had test lakes here and there. It was all % and data but the bottom line was both here and in Illionis there was a very negative effect on spawning success. They projected the effects to the southern waters as even worst. That Norreen Cloth from B.A.S.S. was there and you could see her stress at this research. I believe most of your people are elected so nothing will change. Just to blow Sir Sanford Flemings horn that FLW in water weight system was evented there with research dollars coming from Shimano Canada. If anybody is interested in this research I will look thru my trash or get the info for you. Garnet
  22. If you fish shallow water learn how to use the chain it spooks less fish. If you fish deeper water get 2 drift socks. I would need to no your boat size but 1 size bigger than the manufacture reommends is good. I fish the great lakes and other very large water bodys so maybe a little smaller. Naw go big or stay home. Garnet
  23. Those are good largie rules overcast and choppy. For smallies lots and lots of times the sunnier and calmer the harder they pound spinnerbaits they also will bite spinnerbaits in the overcast. For largies the big thing is to hit something and then keep the blade turning but leave the spinnerbait in the same spot. This takes some practice but I some times double skirt to get this effect. Garnet
  24. Yes I just payed buddy $50 to shorten a 62 inch 8 inches. It was a maxium minn kota so they shorten the shaft at the motor and retreaded. Your style he said that he shorten the head. I talked to 2 repair places that gave me every excuse in the book. I've only used it 2 days so I will no in a week or 2 if it's good. Garnet
  25. Please just keep hating the wind. And would you enter every tourney I fish. Pretty Please. Garnet
