  1. well depending on where your located that could be 9 times a year or 24 times a year....
  2. If you could point me in the direction of a jig that doesnt catch pike I'll give you my firstborn child, deed to my house, and title to my truck. I've lost more jigs between pike and musky than I have ever lost on docks, stumps, logs, rocks, lilly pads, jetskiers, cattails, reeds, laydowns, and culverts combined. If you see 18 inch northern flying high into the air off the front deck of my boat, you'll know why.
  3. A lot of people say that the 487vs is the best hull ranger has ever built. One of my dad's buddy has one and will not part with it for any monetary amount, I've tried...
  4. if that truck has a class III hitch on it, it will do the job. That 4.0 motor isn't too bad. My buddy has a 18 1/2' skeeter zx150 that he pulled with his ranger for 3 years. Give yourself stopping room and get into it a little on the hills and you'll be fine. If I found a smokin deal on a boat that I wanted I wouldn't pass on it because I had that truck. Plus you have 4wd for the ramps. My advice is pull the trigger on that boat!
  5. You must be in wisconsin too. I looked at that same boat. Not worth the price with that outboard on it IMO
  6. traded my snowmobile for my first bass boat. '86 16ft Lakeland 1672 pro console w/ a 60hp evinrude. I put over 3k in that boat. Electronics, trolling motor re-decked and carpeted, reglassed most of the hull. Said and done it came near 5k.
  7. Before you use that new motor extensively You may want to figure out what fried the other one. If it was an issue with wiring or something it will happen to your new one as well. Check your fuses and things as well. Sometimes motors just burn out on their own accord, but sometimes the issue is in how it is wired. Whether it be voltage spikes or short circuiting.
  8. I only go one direction. like sharpening a knife
  9. Goes to show that as far invasive species go around the world bass are far more dangerous. When it comes to being a "fit" organism they rank pretty far up there.
  10. I don't know what that is but it sounds kinda funny. And to be honest I haven't seen any "bashing" of adults or kids... The nature of being a kid is thinking you know everything and you got the world by the tail. The nature of being an adult is realizing kids don't know everything and when you were the kid you were wrong....a lot. I'm 22 years old and graduating college, in that transition period, wanna know what I've learned? When older more experienced people speak, shut your mouth and listen.
  11. If I catch a big enough fish worth taking a picture I'm making that thing look as good as I can. I don't care whether or not someone looks at it and says "that fish is smaller than it looks". The only point of a picture is to capture something that you think is out of the ordinary, so why not make it look out of the ordinary? I know that's what other people do and it doesn't bother me one bit. Yes there are extremes but c'mon, as long as its not ridiculous what difference does it make?
  12. my Lowrance trucker hat from the early 90's. Found it on ebay and had to have it.
  13. Wrapped one of those around a tree one time...
  14. I agree. It is an entertaining show. But some of the things are exaggerated quite extensively, and the editing is often the subject of peicing many clips together to achieve a look different than what actually happened. The rods reels and baits will all switch while hes supposedly fighting the same fish. I know this is the norm on shows like this but i always notice it, and it annoys me.
  15. i think that most pros fish gear that is top tier for a reason. Guys that fish for a living are on the water at minimum 250 days a year. This means they need the top tier gear for durability, comfort, and performance reasons. I don't think that we "overrate" their gear very much. I use Abu Garcia Revos because they are affordable and are durable, comfortable, and provide top tier performance. A lot of pros use these reels as well for the same reasons. Its about what you get for your dollar. I'm not saying that I think their gear is at some higher level than what I own or the average tournament angler uses. But I am saying that I am surprised a guy who is so well known in the sport and obviously has no financial limitations when it comes to fishing, is using $80 reels. I think everyone is going to agree that they are not on the same level as the Revo's he used to use as far as durability, comfort, and performance. Maybe its just his personal preference, but I'm thinking that his monetary compensation must be above average, there just doesn't seem to be any other reason to do it.
  16. I use stren sonic braid in white on my dropshot rod. I always tie a flouro leader anyway so I really don't care what color the braid is. BUT i caught about 35 walleye last weekend on that setup WITHOUT a flouro leader. tied the white braid straight to the dropshot hook, and whacked 'em all day. Walleye are more line shy than bas imo so if it can fool them, itll fool a bass.
  17. those shallow squarebills don't look like bombers to me. they look like bandit 100's
  18. bomber square a, bandit flat max, kvd 1.5/2.5 covers most of my needs.
  19. Well I just learned that Skeet Reese and Brent Chapman use gear that is "lower quality" than I do and they clean house. So maybe it doesn't matter as much as I once thought...
  20. When I was 4 years old I remember I caught a 5lb bass on a bluegill that I had caught on a worm. Was using my dad's ultralight setup, no idea how I didn't lose that fish. Mom took my picture with the fish inside the fish and my dad next to me. Dad had them put the picture in the local newspaper the next day, I'l never forget how proud I was of myself. In the early 90's my dad was big into fishing bass tournaments, learned a lot from him as a kid.
  21. No kidding! Those guys are top tier anglers, with any fishing product imaginable available to them and they choose to fish those victory reels. There must be some SERIOUS money involved in those deals. I cant imagine being on the water 300 days a year using below average products like that.
  22. 1. Bass Cat 2. Abu Garcia 3. Dobyns 4. Strike King 5. Lowrance
  23. Wow that's surprising. He is a hell of an angler that's for sure.
