  1. I have one of their jerkbaits. I have fished with it a couple of times, but it just doesn't impress me.
  2. My crankbait setup is an Abu 5600C4 on a 7'0" BPS Tourney Special. It's well balanced and I don't get tired casting it all day. This rig isn't sensitive, but I'm not crawling the bait along the bottom. When something pulls back, I set the hook.
  3. Around here it depends on the heat. The hotter it gets during the day the deeper I need to fish.
  4. Most of the local places I fish get some very heavy pressure. In those ponds and small lakes I use jigs more than t-rigs because I don't think many people that fish there use jigs.
  5. I change line depending on how much I have fished with it. I find that the smaller test line needs changing more often than the heavier test lines.
  6. We use to hit the button on the reel and drop a jig, or a t-rig, straight down. After it would hit the bottom we would take up the slack until the rod tip was touching the surface of the water. Then raise the rod up and see if we could see the bait on the end.
  7. I would probably choose the 6'8" mh, but there is a lot of vegetation in some of the ponds that I fish.
  8. I don't tie lines together, so I use a palomar knot for everything except crankbaits. For crankbaits I use an improved clinch knot.
  9. A couple of years ago I took my daughter bluegill fishing. I was handing her the rod after hooking a small sunfish when a 2-3 pound bass ate the sunfish. After a couple of seconds the bass let go and we got the sunfish in. It was still kicking so we released it back into the water.
  10. That is great! Congrats!
  11. I like bright colors for crankbaits, and dark colors for plastics, and jigs.
  12. I like to fish it weightless, and let it sink down to the bottom. I give it a couple of twitches, then a couple of jerks, then dead stick it again.
  13. Letting the wind blow the boat around is how I like to fish grassy flats. All I need to do is make sure that I have the boat positioned correctly so it doesn't swing around, and then I drop anchor. The only time I have problems with the anchor dragging is when the wind is up around 20 mph or so.
  14. Have you tried sharpening the hooks?
  15. Sometimes my Walmart has some really good deals. A few years back they had Cordell 1/2 ounce Super Spots on sale for a dollar a piece. I had the guy behind the counter check the price for me to make sure it was correct.
  16. I seem to always start out fishing by casting into the shore. After a few hours when I have beat the bank to death with the bait I move out into open water and start looking for structure on the bottom.
  17. That was a good read, thanks.
  18. Nice catching! I've had a lot of days where I catch numbers, but I like some size also.
  19. The first artificial bait that was really my go to bait was a Cordell Big-O. I think it was the 1/4 ounce size.
  20. Zoom ultra vibe speed craws are my favorite. When they get too beat up to t-rig I use them as trailers.

Yesterday I finally broke the four pound mark for the first time this year. This one went 4 lb 8 oz and I caught it on a black jig and black craw. Wind started coming out of the North about 8:30 AM, and the lake I was fishing was very muddy, less than a foot visibility.
  22. Rat-l-trap, Jig and craw, and a 4" plastic worm.
