Struggling with Texas Rig Fishing
If I'm fishing a 1/16 or 1/8 ounce Texas rig then I'm using spinning tackle. For heavier weights I use a baitcaster.

What lure do you keep a secret???
A lot of the anglers that I run into seem to only use the latest advertised bait. They don't believe me when I tell I'm using a bait that has been around for 20 or 30 years.

Any hockey fans?
When I was a kid I use to fall asleep at bedtime listening to the Blues on the radio. Now I fall asleep watching them on TV. They have been all over the place this season.

Baitcasting setup for lighter weight lures?
I use a SLX 150 on a M/F rod that leans a little toward the light side. I use on this rig for moving baits mostly in the 1/4 ounce size, but I have fished 3/8 suspending jerkbaits with it.

That's a nice looking dog.

What do you drive?
Right now with no boat I drive a 2017 Camry. Rods go in the shotgun seat , tackle bag goes in the trunk.

Allergies, Sinusitis, Viruses
Luckily no one in the house has been sick yet this season. Our youngest daughter comes home from college next weekend. I hope she doesn't bring anything back with her.

What makes you choose a body of water to fish?
Location is the big thing for me. I usually have between 6 or 7 hours to fish, so I want to be on the water as long as possible.

Pros fishing your honey holes
At best, I would be learning what I'm doing wrong when I get skunked. At worst, the pro would be as dumbfounded as I am when I get skunked.

Anyone notice unique bite patterns?
I don't think this is really a pattern, it's more of a behavior. Over the years I have noticed that sometimes when the water is cold the bass will only hit a bottom contact bait once, then they back off. If you kill the retrieve and just let the bait sit there then the bass will come back after a few seconds, pick up the bait, and start swimming off with it. If you continue the retrieve after that first bite, then no more bites.
-
How do you slow down?
I usually cast out just far enough where I can still see the bait. I start bringing the bait back in and watching how fast it is moving. I slow the retrieve as needed for the desired action. When I get the retrieve down then I start fishing.

What is your favorite medium heavy Baitcasting rod under $200?
I have two St. Croix mh/f Premier rods. I use one for jigs and one for Texas rigs. I've never used them for chatterbaits or frogs, but they can handle 1/8 ounce jigs and weightless flukes and senkos without any problem.

Do you think these swim bait manufacturers are deliberately underproducing them to create artificial scarcity to increase demand?
I doubt that they are underproducing them on purpose. If they were then they wouldn't be able to ship new ones to the shops as they sell out, and they would have to store the manufacturing materials somewhere when not using them. Same problem with inventory. If the makers only ship a few baits at a time then they'll have to find a place to store all the baits until they ship.

Dropshot vs. Ned vs. Shakyhead vs. Neko vs. Small Jigs on Steep, Rocky Banks
Around here a lot of the steep rocky drop offs have sunken trees around them. I can usually get through the snags with a weightless plastic, or maybe a 1/8 ounce jig, but anything else hangs up.

How Often And When Do You Use Firetiger Crankbaits
I use firetiger crankbaits all the time. It doesn't matter what the water clarity is or how sunny it is. I just have to try the bait to see if the bass want it.

First December bass
