grubs for smallies
Besides the afore mentioned hare jigs that I swim, my grub box contains 4" sickle tailed grubs, a "skinny" 3" walleye sickle tailed grub, Brewer's 3" boot tailed grubs and a Gene Larew 3 1/2" Long John boot tailed grub.

grubs for smallies
Considering the variety of baits that fall under the label of "grub", I'm wondering what "grub" most of us are referring to with that moniker... sickle tail, boot tail, straight tail... heck, even a 3" Senko is more of a grub than worm? My "favorite" smallie bait is a 3" long hand-tied hare jig that I fish "just like a grub".

grubs for smallies
My line twist question was in reference to the straight shank hook split shot rig of FuturePro's.

grubs for smallies
How is the line twist on that split-shot rig?

Favorite smallie bait ?
This post points out (again) that smallmouth are not as particular about bait as we are!

FireLine Crystal
T-rig... reading between the lines, I'm picking up that you don't like Fireline very much. Comparing it to other non-fused braided lines what specifically don't you like about it... or what specifically about your preferred lines do you like about them. I've used Fireline in most of its variations since it was first sold in tests from 3lb to 20lb. on various spinning reels and baitcasting reels. I found the "passive memory" that was inherent with a fused line lessened the spooling problems and tip knot problems I had with other braided lines that were not fused. It fished more like limp mono than other braids I've used. I also feel that Fireline transmitted vibrations better than non-fused braids. I do wish it had a rounder cross-section. I fished with the Crystal color this entire past season and found that permanent marker coloring still washed off of the Crystal as it did on the Flame Green, but a "tinting" of the marker color remained as opposed to the Flame Green color returning unchanged. This allowed me to tint the last few feet of the Crystal to a light blue, green or brown as I wished determined by the fishing conditions. I do prefer the increased visibility of the Flame Green, however... especially in the very small diameters.

The infini-spool is the feature that would most positively affect your ability to cast VERY light baits. It's also the feature that makes it the most difficult to control spool "over-runs"
-

The STX uses the "infini-spool" technology that totally disengages the spool from the rest of the drive train when cast. This is a significant difference between the STX and SX. This difference alone probably justifies the extra cost. (Whether or not you like this feature is still up to you.)

Casting or Spinning System For Dropshot
A spinning outfit will let you pick the line off of the bail and hold it in your index finger. You will be able to feel the sinker weight as well as light bites easier.

fireline crystal on spinning reels
Try filling your spool under a little more pressure.

Balanced Rods
I prefer balancing my spinning outfits at the point where the rod rests upon my index finger.

spiral wrapped
Raul... I understand your point of view. I don't believe having the rod's spine lined up perfectly is as important as you do. I am more concerned that a rod is straight. I've been tempting myself to have a favorite rod I use for jigs & worms re-wrapped as a spiral... just haven't gotten around to it yet. Rods I fish pointed downward, such as crankbait rods, I've decided I'd prefer keeping traditionally wrapped as the bait is pulling away from the rod in this position with a traditionally wrapped (guides on top) rod.
-
spiral wrapped
Why aren't you re-wrapping the existing rods you have in spiral fashion rather than looking for new?

Slender Pointer?
Serbia... I've read the slender pointer has a more erratic action than the other pointers, would you agree?

Setting Your Drag
Solid hook sets slip drag slighty... large fish get back-reeled.

Crawfish size
What size crawfish are preferred by your smallies? Anybody pay particular attention to the craw"parts" spit up from the smallies in your livewell and hazard a guess as to the size of the eaten craw?

Guys with docks
Not a lawyer, but as I live on lake shore and am an avid angler, I recognize there are two sides to this story. It doesn't seem to be worth the aggravation over a single dock. Anglers (myself included) get pi$$ed with jet skies, pleasure boaters too near us, other fishermen too near us, too many regulations, too little regulations, ect. ect. ect. It's entirely possible that we're the cause of someone else's frustrations... so why push this guy's buttons!
-
Guys with docks
Let's not forget that we anglers are legally liable for any property damage or personal injury we cause to that property owner or his family. That liability might make fishing the dock around the point more attractive.

basic color selection
Brad... That's about what I'd expect... thanks for the confirmation.

basic color selection
Brad... I realize you carry many colors of plastic but I'm curious... can you rank (by percentage) the colors you most often use per time spent using that color vs. the others? I'm probably only interested in your top ten or twelve colors and the percentages that they make up in your fishing.

Know your prey !: Bass Senses II
Raul... Yes some of my contradictory resources were biologists. My college profs (some years back) drilled into me to check research references... I respectfully assume you are of the same mind. If some of your sources were available to me I'd like to read them... that is why I ask. You have a good day.
