  1. Yep, I'm itching for Spring to arrive... I mean really itching, all over. Can't wait 'till my spring bath. (live bait = trapping, not fishing)
  2. Good walleye fishing all around me... NO, I don't eat bass.
  3. I don't change the way I set the hook based on the tackle I'm using, I use the tackle I do because of the way I fish (which how I set the hook is a major part of). I'm a sweep setter through and through, with line falling between 6lb and 20lb.
  4. No, I don't think so. My local lakes already own the state record smallmouth and muskie. OP... what's a tittle?
  5. Wow, that's a $10 word... my mama warned me not to reach beyond the $2 adverbs. I looked that one up to be certain the nuance wasn't lost upon me. When I break one of my tools I'll probably up-grade a little when its replaced.
  6. My opinion: you won't catch anymore fish with more expensive equipment than what you now own. More time fishing with what you have will help you catch more fish.
  7. Don't care whether the grip is "split" or not, but I do have a preference about how long the grip is.
  8. X-9 will make the cut... now, if I could just find a spool in Genie blue color.
  9. you've been waiting a while to use that haven't you...😁
  10. Med. power spinning rod throwing small plastics in/outside/along edge of sparce weeds, would you prefer 10 lb (with leader) white Berkley x-9 or Spiderwire UltraCast. No other suggestions please...
  11. bah humbug, I hate change... been married to the same woman for 48 years and I still don't understand how she operates.
  12. 2000 sized spinning reel with anti-reverse switch...
  13. Big Hands, thank you for putting a face to the legend...
  14. When bass get to be that size, they taste just like bald eagle...
  15. Y'all are better anglers than I if you don't occasionally get a wind knot or let the bail close prematurely and snap off that Megabass 110 when using 4 or 6lb PE lines. I've settled on 8 - 10lb mainline with med. power, med. fast action rods and I bump that up to 12lb on med. heavy rods.
  16. I have the exact opposite opinion, especially if we are targeting larger, many year's old bass that have been fished for and caught; possibly many time over it's lifetime. That bass is keenly aware of it's surroundings and is most likely very cognizant of the boat traffic, but is wary of eating throughout that chaos and may well have changed it's life cycle to feeding nocturnally.
  17. I will often search with my sonar, but only mark spots on the chart and continue without fishing that spot; then double back a short time later to fish it. When approaching an intended fishing spot I approach from upwind with no sonar, no outboard motor within 100 yards, no trolling motor within 50 yards and float to where I want to very quietly lower (not drop) anchor. If I must use the trolling motor to position my boat I keep it at a very low power. I fish alone, no radio or phone conversions and usually do not use the raised front deck to cast from keeping a lower profile. I prefer fishing without shoes on and keep all tackle and tools on top of the deck so I won't need to make noise banging compartment lids. What measures, if any, do you take to minimize your presence to the bass you're stalking? ... Didn't think to mention all of my fishing shirts are solid pale blue or white and my Tilley hat is beige.
  18. I fish those with torn snouts wacky rigged...
  19. I wouldn't even try, in-fact, I'm about to join you. Where I fish it's breezy much of the time and after years of fighting to use both casting and spinning I'm about to declare the fight not worth waging. In my coming retirement years I'll be positioning my boat with anchors and throwing my baits with spinning rods to enjoy myself more often on the water. I'm currently setting up next season's quiver and it'll include 5 spinning rods... 0 casting. Now, if I get a calm day or two the casting gear will still be available, but I'm not going to fight it anymore. oe
  20. How are you going to use this reel? I use slow reels by today's standard, but not that slow. I had one of those 3.8:1 Curados mentioned above, but I couldn't keep any of my baits off the bottom!... Under-filling the spool will bring in less line per handle revolution. My low-profile 5.?:1 reels keep me in the 23" range with the spool full... probably somewhere near 19" at the end of my cast.
  21. Is there somebody forcing you to buy them?...
