Smallmouth vs Spotted bass
Short term memory starting to go Tom?? oe

Can my rod handle a 2oz swimbait?.....
I think you've gone two sentences too far with your rebuttal. A light power crappie rod wouldn't do well with that 10oz bait... oe

Soft plastic lures conservation. Glycerin: caution
I don't think drying out is a problem, but often baits that are stored in plastic bags will not slide freely and will bend and set to that bend. A quick shot of spray vegetable oil (ie. Pam) inside of the filled bag will provide a good lubricant. oe

Ambassadeur c4 vs Revo Beast vs Cardif A
There is smoother line flow during the cast when the line guide is synchronized with the line coming from the spool. oe

Crankbait rod
I think you're looking at rods heavier power than necessary for shallow/mid-depth crankbaits. oe

Pfluger Supreme XT-- 25 or 30?
Size 25 = 5.2:1 ratio... size 30 = 6.2:1 ratio My Supreme 25 is on a 7' ml power rod because I want to retrieve hair jigs and hand tied light-weight tail spinners. When I want to use this rod for swimming grubs I put a size 30 reel on it. I've had the size 25 on heavier spinning rods I was throwing mid-depth crankbaits with. The two reel's size difference is not drastic enough to worry about, but the retrieve speed may be. oe

How often are you using 1/2oz plus baits for northern smallmouth?
5/8oz spinnerbaits, 1/2oz lipless cranks, 5/8oz Pointer 100's, 1/2oz jigs... all fished on various medium power rods, both baitcasting and spinning. You don't NEED med. heavy power rods to fish these baits IF YOU'RE NOT FISHING IN HEAVY COVER. oe

I don't trust weed guards
Tom... I'm assuming your jig of choice doesn't have a "cross eye" or an eye buried into the lead as many of today's skirted jigs do. Also I would think an eye closer to 90 degrees would work best. What is your jig of choice to use when modifing a jig in this way. Is there one jig that has a prettier hook eye than the others that make it easier to have the piece of finesse worm become attracted to it? oe

How do boat fishermen really feel about kayak anglers?
actually... unless you can ride that bike of yours at least 45 mph, you don't have a right to ride on an interstate. To those of you disturbed by pleasure boats (kayaks included) crossing between you and your shoreline target; try positioning your boat in their path and cast parallel to the shoreline. This usually forces the other boat to move around you in deeper water and is often a better casting angle for you anyway. oe

Reel Maintenance Tools.....??
Misc. stuff... white hand towel to work on top of. Roll of paper towels, q-tips, bottle of alcohol and acetone, can of compressed air, 3/4" dowel sharpened at one end (hand spin bearings), adjustable neck lamp, table top fan to aid your room ventilation (acetone fumes will cloud your head pretty quickly)... my favorite tool... 4" magnetized metal dish to keep small screws and retainer clips in. I can drop that dish upside down to the floor and nothing will spill out! oe

Spinning reel differences
I'll take exception to the carbon framed reels of many higher end reels being better than an aluminum or magnesium framed reel often found on good mid-priced reels. oe

shortening butt on spinning rod
I'm aware of his situation, I fish from a small canoe and float tube, as well as from boat and shore. I'm suggesting he think this through or he may find himself in a situation I went through fighting tennis elbow in my right arm for a year. Balancing my rods, even though heavier, solved my problem. oe

Are big* bass smarter or just rare?
Since this board is internet based which allows me to assert without documentation... I'll suggest that Mrs. Bass' sensory receptors grow in size and number as she grows, increasing her awareness of her surroundings. This would alert her more keenly to negative cues in her nearby environment. A flawless presentation of artificial bait (or using live bait, heaven forbid) may be more necessary to catch a larger bass than a smaller bass. Forgive me for not annotating this, but I don't want to re-read the volumes on my bookshelves. I think it may have come from Keith Jones' manuscript. oe
