The plant you refer to as 'snotgrass' sounds like it might be 'spirogyra". If so, it's actually algae (not to be confused with chara), and can be a horror show for lure delivery. On the other hand, Pondweed (potamogeton) is a non-invasive plant that's beneficial to largemouth. To your question: snotgrass (spirogyra) may not be harmful to the bass population, but is certainly a bane to lure presentation. IMO, the bigger problem is the loss of pondweed. BTW: Pondweed is called 'peppergrass' in the south; and called 'cabbage' in the north (favorite of pike). Roger

I missed the word "craw", and was referring to the Ultravibe 'Worm' The Ultravibe Craw is a great jig trailer, and being a noisy craw, it's a good choice in poor water clarity. Roger

In lakes with poor water clarity, the Ultravibe is high on my list I only fish the Magnum Ultravibe as a standalone bait, which is 7" long and has good bulk. Roger

Not long after it was introduced, I purchased a Color-C-Lector. The readings are based on underwater color visibility, and obviously not based on matching the hatch (can't have it both ways). I was never infatuated with lure color, and soon grew tired of Loren's advent which became a garage fixture Then about 10 years ago, my wife became interested in the Color-C-Lector, and I took it out of moth balls. Less than a year later though, she also grew tired of taking readings & wrapping the cord around the hub. Just as well, it's one less contraption I need to pack, and has become a garage fixture once again. Roger

With respect to covid19, it's important to understand that mainstream media generates their biggest profits by publishing 'bad' news. They're in eternal pursuit of the seediest tales and most negative figures that paint the bleakest picture. When people of advanced age (as myself), step away from media hype, most of us know dozens of personal acquaintances who succumbed to cancer, stroke or heart disease. In stark contrast, most of us may not have one personal acquaintance who succumbed to coronavirus. Covid19 pales in comparison to mental health, which applies equally to each and every one of us. Bear an important thought in mind. The difference between happiness and unhappiness is 'paper thin'; it's not the thick, impenetrable wall it may appear to be. Keep your chin up. Roger

A price point below $100 is rather restrictive, even in the absence of brand loyalty. Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable recommending a Daiwa spinning reel south of the Fuego or BG. Between the two, I'd personally give the nod to Daiwa BG. Roger

I'm also a proponent of soft-plastic baits. Although my wife & I both fish from the same boat, her best producer of Florida-strain bass is by far a 'Jig & Craw'. She tells me that I don't have the patience, which might explain why I much prefer soft swimbaits and soft jerkbaits Roger

Can't you ask a simple question Soft swimbaits are my main squeeze, so I ask a lot from a swimbait jig, but normally go with a belly-weighted, spring-lock hook: WEEDLESS With regard to weedlessness, the jig must have a “nose eyelet” (a line-eye on the crown is a Horror Show!). I'm looking for a low weedguard angle, preferably not more than 30%. Finally, a streamlined head design such as conical, laterally compressed, embedded line-eye ~ ~ ROUND-BEND HOOK Round-bend hooks offer an excellent hook-up ratio, and allow self-centering with nose-hooked trailers. Furthermore, it’s easier to unhook a fish on a round-bend, compared to the sharp corner of an EWG. In the same vein, round-bend hooks are less damaging to fish TRAILER KEEPER A 'shank spur' or 'mushroom keeper' are both good trailer fasteners. Ideally, I’m looking for a double-spur, double mushroom or one of each. HOOK DIMENSIONS You want at least 2x wire with at least a 3/0 hook. AVAILABLE WEIGHTS Jig weights should span at least from 1/4 oz to 3/4 oz, but not all brands offer that weight range. WEEDGUARD TENSION CAVEAT: Fiberguard tension is invisible & widely overlooked. Too much weedguard tension will reduce your hook-up ratio, whereas. too little weedguard tension will result in excessive weed-fouling and snags. Three swim jigs that I use are Revenge Jigs - Dirty Jigs - Outkast RTX jigs. My favorite among them is the Revenge Swim Jig. Roger

In mid-Florida you're dealing with Florida-strain, so I prefer a plastic worm with some bulk, and the Fat Max fills the bill. About 5 years back, Lois & I vacationed in Lac Seul, Ontario for northern pike. One of our best producers was a Culprit Fat Max rigged weedless on a Mepps #5 Anglia. Roger

I agree, it's important not to exhibit any fear or anger. As they say, it's better to look like the mugger, rather than the victim. In other words, carry yourself with confidence, like a troublemaker, not like the ‘path-of-the-least-resistance’. On this night, I was exiting a nightspot called “Snookies”, in a dangerous section of Newark, NJ. As I left the club, I noticed 4 guys milling around my Jeep Cherokee. No problem, I’ve dealt with this same scenario several times. As usual, I twirled my key-chain around my index finger, so they knew I was the owner of the vehicle, and they would disperse. I had already dismissed them from my mind and was thinking of other things, but that proved to be a mistake. As I was inserting the key in my car door, I suddenly got the eerie feeling that I was surrounded. When I lifted my head to see over my car roof, a masked man was pointing a gun at my head; with his arm resting on the roof of my Jeep. I asked calmly: “What's going on?”. With equal serenity, the masked guy said: “We're going to shoot you”. Oddly, that gave me a sense of relief. All he had to do was crook his trigger finger, but instead he was wasting time talking to me. Thankfully I was right. After a brief silence I asked: “What do you want?”. The gunman replied: “We Want Your Wallet”. With no further ado, I replied: “You’ve got it”. As I reached behind my back to fetch my wallet, a little guy behind me batted my hand to the side. I should've known better, because it looked like I was reaching for a handgun, though I was not. I was very fortunate, because after absconding with my wallet, they melted away on foot over the railroad tracks. I’ve often mentally revisited that 4 to 1 firearm confrontation. Knowing the pigheaded kid that I was, I can't help but think; if I was packing a firearm that night, Snookies may have been my Waterloo. Roger

In my experience, Navionics is more accurate on most lakes, but I've also encountered lakes where i-boating is more accurate. It really depends on the water, but you can't beat the price of i-boating ? Roger
