  1. for me its the reel. a crappy reel can completely ruin your day of fishing. where as a rod, unless you break it, wont near as much ruin your day of fishing. which is why my money goes towards the reel and i will slap any reel on an ugly stik. most you rod guys talking about feeling the bottom and bottom contact, who cares when most of you are probably fishing from a boat with electronics that you can use to see whats on the bottom and show you if there are fish there. and to be honest with you, i can feel the bottom just fine with a cheap old ugly stik, feeling is in your hands more so than anything, it is one of your senses like seeing and hearing. certain materials may conduct that feeling better, but its so slight that it isnt worth paying $200-$300 more for. and youve also probably been fishing that same spot for years as part of your milk run, you should know whats there. i would definately say the reel is more important
  2. bottom line is the bait isnt quite what you were looking for. fish it slow if your objective is to fish that bait, if you want to go fast go back to your chatterbaits...problem solved...
  3. nice catch, so are you actually trying to get credit for a state record? or just happy with your catch and knowing it could be the state record?
  4. i think the show finding bigfoot has given a lot of people a sort of misrepresentation of actual "bigfooting". but its just that a show, for entertainment, they never were going to actually find bigfoot marching into the woods with production crews and cameras everywhere. but there are people out there putting in legitimate research, including the bfro. real or not, there are some pretty interesting stories out there about bigfoot. i enjoy reading them.
  5. i dont mind a passing storm or two, but this week the rain has been ridiculous. i hate when it rains for like a week straight. i hate when i go like two weeks not seeing the sun because of the remnants of a hurricane and such too. as for sitting on the porch watching a storm blow through, ive always done that since i was a kid, provided we had a porch or deck with a covered roof...
  6. wrestling is real, its just scripted. big difference that is often misconstrued. when a guy gets body slammed, he actually gets body slammed, nothing fake about it. scripted yes, fake no. the match may be scripted and predetermined, but those guys take a beating for real. MarkH, im not really offended, just didnt feel there is a place for that in this thread, everyone starts piling on and the thread gets closed is what that leads to. but for everything you listed, there are as many or more "unknowns" out there. some people believe there is a government coverup going on with bigfoot. like i said, im not convinced there is such a thing, but im not just going to write off the possibility either. one could argue, there is much more evidence available that bigfoot does exist and no evidence that it doesnt exist...
  7. your logic is flawed. one, the woods aint usually so packed you cant find a tree to pee behind. two, if people are reporting seeing it, has it really eluded man? or just accredited science and nature journals? also, there are often new species being discovered that have gone undetected for all this time. some of those species being of the ape variety... seriously, there may not be much interest in discussing this here, but there is also no need for sarcastic or demeaning comments or pics/gifs. i'd be willing to bet that there are people here who have had encounters but wont discuss it due to fear of ridicule from people dying to call someone crazy...
  8. i would fish weightless t-rigs with various soft plastic baits. less likely to get snagged without the weight. fish them slow through the stumps/timber.
  9. i am totally caught up in bigfoot. i love to read reports and stories about encounters. i have read a ton of the BFRO sighting reports, have completed several states, in addition to stories on other sites. im not 100% sold there is a such thing, but i'm not gonna dismiss it altogether either.... bigbill, lots of the stories i have read have come from loggers/log camps, and fishermen/hunters....also have read quite a few from ex-military and LEOs...
  10. if i am on the dock night fishing at my uncles house on smith mountain lake crushing cans of budweiser, then hell yeah i want some music and i will blast it sometimes too. some of my best fish have come while blasting 80s hair metal. if out on the boat, my uncle will play music sometimes too, doesnt bother me at all to listen to music and fish, i can walk and chew gum at the same time =]
  11. if someone wants to keep a log, that dont bother me one bit. i just want to fish, i dont care to keep records on everything i catch. i will retain things in my memory and refer back to them. i just dont care to bring office work with me fishing, thats what im trying to get away from...
  12. meh, too much like work, would take the enjoyment out of fishing for me.
  13. ive had fish bite at my FC line, more invisible underwater huh? i dont believe that one bit now. after seeing that, i will stick to my mono...
  14. im not sure if its the same place you mention, but i believe he was on foot wading and it was a small stream/river in TN. it was a two part episode and he was fishing for smallmouth.
  15. i would fish those lakes if i could too. his show is more about teaching and product pushing. who cares where he is fishing? if you can learn something from him take it and put it to use...
  16. the fish are still there, you just have to change your game. find what they are relating to now that there is no vegetation, maybe its a piece of underwater structure. and try to catch or snag a few of those carp and remove them when no ones looking...
  17. weightless plastics and top water frogs are about the only ways to fish it effectively. there will be days when the wind blows most or all of it to one side, then you can use stuff like spinner baits and buzzbaits and some treble hook lures...
  18. who are you kidding? its absolutely hilarious LOL you might feel bad for the person, but its still funny. i would eventually laugh if it were myself throwing the rod out.
  19. a google search doesnt give you direct answers. it gives you links to web pages that may contain the answer or information youre looking for. some web pages may be right, some may be wrong...
  20. i thread them on but weave the hook in and out of it. i only use half a worm when targetting bluegill. i like to use abeerdeen hooks. take an old rag or cloth to wipe your hands on after handling the nightcrawlers, unless you dont mind the dirt/mess. as someone mentioned above, they tend to swallow hooks too, so be prepared for that... about the only time i dont thread a nightcrawler on is if im sight fishing for bass. i will just nose hook the nightcrawler and toss it out. bass can hardly resist that long nightcrawler floating off the bottom in the water...
  21. i swear, i thought crackheads were over paranoid when high, bass fishermen got them beat by miles and miles though...
  22. use live bait. night crawlers and crickets. wouldnt bother with minnows unless you want to target the crappie specifically
  23. he even wears those shorts on tv. saw him on a show this weekend(forget which) and he was out snook fishing and wearing those infamous camo shorts...
