  1. that is one sweet superbird
  2. i got a pair of ray ban prescription sunglasses, coppertone polarized lenses. smoke color lenses, black frames. they werent cheap, but it was the best option to go with i figured. the clip ons i ruled out right away, as well as the ones that are glasses but fit over your regular glasses. they were definately worth it. plus theyre great for me driving east in the morning to work and west in the evening on the way home, you know those days when the sun is shining directly at you and you cant see a thing in front of you...
  3. more people missing the point. lets see if i can simplify my position for you. and i realize not everyone feels the same way. but i could have just as much fun fishing with a cane pole w/o a reel as i could fishing with one those so called $800 combos. the equipment doesnt impact my fun one bit, im just happy to fish and thats where the fun is for me. its not about NEEDING this or that, but if it takes an $800 combo for someone just to be happy and have fun while fishing, well that makes me wonder is all. as for me, the cost of my gear or level of quality is not what puts the fun in fishing...
  4. you completely missed the point of my post. it was to be expected, i dont feel like rehashing myself, so maybe you should reread it instead. and dont even get me started on the sensitivity thing, because its very very minimal difference in rods from cheap to expensive, sensitivity is more in your hands than the rod... like i said, you missed the point. and actually i had an old paint chipping rusted Neon, it will hit 100+mph just like a Ferrari will. i rather enjoyed driving it. my point is a skunk is a skunk, no matter what combo youre using. the equipment isnt what defines my experiences on the water either... i just cant stand the misconception that you need high cost gear to catch fish or have fun while fishing. sends the wrong message to uninformed people like beginner fishermen...
  5. a skunk is a skunk, regardless of what youre using. and speaking of walmart specials, i got a couple combos i put together at walmart in the $70-80 range for rod and reel both. and you know what, today they work just as good as they did the day i bought them and probably just as good as your $800 combo, i really dont get your line of thinking there... no lets word it properly here: tackle snobs. collectors are different. i really dont credit any of the catching part to price of equipment. we've all heard the story of the barbie and spiderman poles pulling out the biggest fish of a fishing trip. as for the fishing part, if one of my cheap combos is working just as perfectly or better than someones high dollar combo, then how is fishing with your high dollar combo(or supposedly better equipment) any funner than me with a much cheaper combo? i dont relate fun to the equipment either.
  6. id go with mono all day. i've read about people having so many problems with braid, i never have those with mono. i figure it this way, mono works great for me for all the fishing i do, why do i want to pay 4 or 5 times the price or whatever for braid that seems to constantly give people problems? i dont, so im sticking with my mono. back in the day people were fishing all the same techniques that people do now but with mono, before braid ever came along, it worked for them as well...
  7. sounds like it was overfilled to me. or spooled with a bunch of line twist. as mentioned above, you should keep atleast an 1/8th inch lip showing on your spool. sometimes new line just jumps off like that, after using it a little it will stop doing that. a few fish pulling on it will certainly help it too. i spool my own line personally. and when the line starts jumping off the roll of line, then i will flip the roll of line over and its back to straight again, and keep repeating that until the spool is full. in fact, dont think i had a problem with line jumping off a spool since i started spooling like that, read that here somewhere.
  8. i think both would be fair combos. i have a trion and a cardinal that have served me well, never a single problem with either one. i do have the older models that were out before the new ones you see now. in fact, i just bought my mom a cardinal rod and reel combo from wal-mart for $30. the rod is a 6'6 medium i believe. i would say both reels you listed would do the job, take your friend with you and let him pick the one that feels best to him.
  9. if you dont have time to shop once you start fishing, then why do you care or complain about shelves sitting empty? you kind of contradict yourself there lol
  10. my favorite fishing hat is a solid black hat made by panther with lights in it, caught some nice fish while wearing that hat and night fishing....
  11. not sure, but i have seen them eat their own fry in ponds
  12. the big girls are in the chesapeake bay around mothers day and in december. otherwise its just a bunch of 20inch or so schoolies sometimes mixed in with blues and spanish mackerel...
  13. too bad, you got no control over what others do on the water. you can get mad and tick and moan all you want. its your choice not to listen to music on your boat, but getting upset and making a douchey post about what others choose to do on their boat isnt going to stop it. seriously, who times ten's themselves. unbelievable. if i saw you on the lake, after reading the tone of your post, i would turn my music even louder just to tick you off you may be there for nature, others may not. if someone is playing music and you dont want to hear it, then thats on you, its your hangup, leave, find another fishing spot. you dont own the lake and dont control what other people do on their boats, whether its a bass boat with other anglers, or a pontoon boat full of people partying makes no difference. some people enjoy their time on the water different than you, how you gonna expect people to respect the way you like to spend your time on the water when you dont respect the way they spend their time on the water? a guess a world full of mutes would suit both of you just fine...
  14. your post just made me realize, i dont have my house key with me today, luckily someone will be home when i get off from work today. I took it off my main key chain saturday night and put it on my spare car key chain, because i was going out to a club and didnt want to carry a "bunch" of keys around all night bulging out my pocket, and forgot to switch my house key back...
  15. just hire Redskins left tackle Trent "Silverback" Williams
  16. *thumbs up* to the Wu-Tang Clan, greatest hip hop group ever, especially from early 90s to late 90s. I usually listen to them while packing for a fishing trip to smith mtn lake, if not them then its old 80s hair metal and the monster ballads... as for while fishing, out on a boat, not typically unless my uncle gets bored and wants to listen to music while i fish. but when im back on the dock that night, catfishing and bait fishing for whatever wants to bite, then i will have the radio on playing classic rock, and then on saturday nights the classic rock station airs Dee Snyders House Of Hair from 10pm-12am and i typically turn it up and let it blast. caught some nice fish during House Of Hair. fish love classic rock and hair metal. ive tried changing over to hip hop while fishing and the bite dies. i hear some creepy sounds at night while fishing and the music helps cover many of those up lol. i've felt spooked enough to call it a night early by some of the sounds, or having the feeling of being watched. or hearing something running on two legs and crashing through the woods, uh yeah, so i was really spooked at night that year...
  17. i got my car key, house key, bedroom key, work key, aunt and uncles lake house key. and an old house key but another uncle lives there now...that might be about it on my main every day key chain...oh it does have the clicker for my car on their too, and a redskins key chain i do have another key chain or two with real old keys i have no idea what go to, some i have an idea, just not sure which key is which, and to vehicles i no longer own. then i got keys to my old pickup truck which my moms husband drives now and keys to my moms van...
  18. you may not like the suggestion, but i love my 8ft MH Catfish Ugly Stik rod. I use it for stripers and catfish, have by chance caught bass on it and panfish...
  19. how about you build me a new set of glasses to read that super small text? lol im just messing with ya, welcome to the forums
  20. are you looking for bass or baitfish? they aint always in the same place.... try fishing the rocky areas, as the rocks will hold heat, may be warmer there. also try creek channels and ledges/drop offs...
  21. use it till it gets low on your spool. line doesnt just instantly deteriorate in a week and spontaneously combust like some people would have you think...im going into my 3rd season with the FC on the one reel i use it on, and its still fine, not a d**n thing wrong with it...
  22. it depends where i fish. and time of day. im a multispecies guy. if i hit up a pond, im using artificial baits for bass 99% of the time. every now and then i will tie on a small bait or have a box of nightcrawlers and catch some nice bluegill for fun if the bass arent cooperating. the night crawlers usually get the bass going too. at the river its 50/50 night crawlers and artificial. usually dont have much luck there to be honest. its loaded with fish though. if im at smith mtn lake for the weekend i will bass fish in the morning and various times throughout the day with various lures. and then ill toss a few more lures around while the sun is setting. after awhile of that i will start tying up my catfish/live bait rigs for the night on 5 or 6 rods and reels. then i will tie up a couple of lures i want to try that night if the live bait fishing is slow, usually a noisy top water and a shallow diving crank. ill toss them around shallow if i get bored or something gets my attention. but usually ill be focused on my nightcrawlers, chicken livers, shrimp, minnows or cut bait i may have out on the live bait rods. while drinking on a cooler full of beer and classic rock on the radio. just sitting back watching my rods, taking everything in. the moon, stars, mountains, trees and water and nature sounds. yeah thats why i fish, its just relaxing for me. it clears my mind for awhile and its like the rest of the world disappears. doesnt matter if im bass fishing, catfishing, pan fishing, whatever, its just great for the mental state of mind...
  23. and what if those two catch nothing when a worm or lizard wouldve worked the whole time? your "search baits" found nothing, you still really want to call them search baits?
  24. same here in my area, never any major markdowns or sales. theres 4 different walmarts from here to work and theyre all the same as far as only minor markdowns in the fishing section. youre just wrong. walmart has a decent selection of lures since theyve redone the fishing section a couple years ago. they dont have the selection of the big outdoors stores like a BPS, but they have some quality brand stuff...
