  1. uh so yeah, replicas still look really really fake to me compared to skin mounts. not that the artist didnt do a good job there its just not my cup of tea. replicas just look too fake to me like i could go pick one up at my local walmart and bring home to hang on the wall...
  2. dont recall a clicking sound when opening the bail on my supreme, heard good things about the lexa though...
  3. its like a movie director after a scene is shot and complete. atleast thats my interpretation of it...same or very similar to "good night irene"
  4. id go with the pflueger supreme. its a fine reel and will handle any bass you plan on catching. if you happen to hook into a big cat or carp dont worry about it, just loosen the drag a bit to take some tension off. youre going to see a ton of shimano recommendations in any thread here asking reel advice because there is a cult following here. i dont get it, not saying shimano is garbage, but the cult following has made me refuse to buy anything shimano. they way shimanos seemed to get forced down your throat here as the best thing ever has completely turned me off to ever wanting to own one.
  5. the walmart ones are most likely the made in china ones. the ambassadeur BCX models. I got one but not from walmart, i got the 5601 BCX model from bass pro shops because i wanted the left hand model. its held up pretty well through 3 seasons with no maintenance. i use it for bass and catfish...
  6. haha could be. a different aunt than the one i mentioned before lives in that house now, she actually completely remodeled it in and out, but has never experienced a single strange happening, so charlie may have moved on lol.
  7. i have lures ive given up on for awhile but tried again later when nothing else was working to have successful results. like the rapala husky jerk, had all but given up on it about 4 years ago, it was my only jerk bait at the time. tried it in cold water in february and caught two bass back to back, one a 4lber. my first winter time bass and have caught more since then on the husky jerk. same thing with a jitterbug till last year i caught my first fish on one, in the middle of the afternoon under a dock. now if i could just get a pop-r bite, never caught a fish on one, so now i rarely even tie one on.
  8. i lived in a house with a ghost when i was growing up. it was an old house in NC, that at one time had been used for funeral wakes. we named the ghost charlie. i was the only one that ever saw him, but it was from the back and not the face. i woke up in bed one night and saw a human figure walk out of my bedroom. opened the door and walked out, thing is the door was locked and the lock only could be used inside my room. next morning the door was still locked when i woke up. also had a radio play that wasnt plugged in. the rocking chair in the living room would at times rock on its own and the channels on the tv would start changing by themselves. the dogs would sometimes bark at thin air with the hair on their necks standing up and the hair on your neck would stand up then too. it once tapped my sister on the shoulder and said "hey". she took off running out of the house, she was home alone. something would also constantly tap on her second story bedroom windows some nights, nothing was ever there though. then it got in the car with my aunt and tried to ride home with her to VA one time. turned on and started changing the stations on her radio, she said "now charlie, you stop it and go back home" and the radio shut off and she never experienced that again.
  9. i only have two baitcasters and both are round reels and both abu ambassadeurs. i love them. one i use for catfish and striper, the other i use for bass and catfish. pretty much though, i have very little interest in low profile baitcasters. maybe one day, just not now...
  10. i suppose you could cast without a hook and see what happens...
  11. perhaps the old recommendations were outdated, and a new fresh study was done which lead to the new recommendations...
  12. i think im going to the BPS in Hanover, MD either tomorrow or Sunday, not sure yet...
  13. love their reels, read too many stories here of their rods breaking easily...
  14. there is a common misconception that a drop shot has to be a finesse technique, but in reality it doesnt. you can go as big or small as you want to as far as line, weights, hooks, lures, etc... as for weights, i dont use those hook on drop shot weights. i use bass casting sinkers. put a split ring on the sinker eye, and a swivel on the split ring and tie to the swivel. since the sinker swivels and the swivel swivels(i know, i know) it helps eliminate line twist. plus i use the bass casting sinkers for other types of fishing so i always have them, eliminates the need to buy special sinkers. and i dont really get hung up a bunch to worry about it, i just break the line if i do...
  15. this is how i interpreted it as well. i would make the cast because im not going to quit fishing.
  16. being Native American i chose something related to my tribe. The Haliwa-Saponi tribe out of North Carolina. Haliwa is a combination of the main two counties of NC that my tribe is from, Halifax-Warren counties. the name actually used to be Haliwar-Saponi, but the "r" was later dropped. Saponi is basically the bloodline and it means Red Earth People, so thats where i get Red Earth from....
  17. Not sure, would you like to tell us? and wouldnt the size of weight play a factor?
  18. feeling the bottom isnt so much important unless youre trying to learn the structure as best you can without a fish finder. think about it like this, not all baits are fished on the bottom, though sometimes being on the bottom is the ticket, its not always. for example, when the sinker is pegged, your bait goes as the sinker goes while working your bait, when the sinker falls your bait is right there falling with it. when your weight is unpegged, and you give your bait a pop/jerk the sinker will fall freely down the line faster, when your sinker hits the bottom the bait is still somewhat suspended and it presents a different fall for your bait. both techniques work, obviously, just sometimes one is better than the other. also, if you fish the same spots frequently, how often do you really need to feel the bottom?
  19. i have a 5501 ambassadeur BCX(made in china) that has held up well for 4 seasons now. the 01 just means left hand retrieve. i spooled it with 17lb fc and it casts great. i use it for some bass applications, but mostly for catfish. its a blast with catfish. i also have a 6601 ambassadeur c4 that i love. i have 25lb big game mono on it and use it for stripers and catfish. i love it...never thought about throwing swimbaits on it, great idea...
  20. why? youre missing out. there are days where pegged and unpegged makes a difference to the bass...
  21. i would go with 12lb mono for all around cranking. although ive used has high as 20lb mono, but i was casting for stripers and ended up catching a few largemouth in the process...
  22. actually i have my two round abu baitcasters on old spincast rods i had sitting around. they work just fine. theyre not lightweight rods though, one is a 6'6MH and the other is a 7'MH.
