Nitro Boat Quality??
A friend of mine ordered one of the BPS Tahoe fiberglass deckboats NEW. He picked it up from the Springfield BPS boat headquarters. I went over to his house to see his new aquisition. What a shock. The back corner of the boat had been crushed in and then repaired. You could clearly see the imperfection as the gel color didn't blend right with the rest of the boat. The boat was supposed to come with a solid accent stripe that ran from the transom to the bow. It appeared they didn't have a whole roll of pin striping that day on the assembly line and used scrap pieces of pin striping. The stripe was broken up with 1-2' blank sections along the sides. Incredible. There where very obvious dimples spaced 3 feet apart about a foot or so down from the rub rail. Each dimple had a star crack at the center. I'm not sure how they pulled the hull out of the mold but it seemed like that was the only way that could've happened. The rear swim ladder was sloppy and put together with what appeared to be screws purchased at the local hardware store. They were clearly not the flush mount nuts and bolts that should've been used. The first time he used the boat virtually every water fitting in the boat used for the rear deck sprayer, on board sink, etc. began leaking inside of the boat. Most real boat companies would've pushed that disaster to the side and offered it for sale through the dealership at a big discount as a "blem" boat. To think BPS would hand the keys over to him and say: "Here it is. This is the best we can produce. Enjoy" is incredible. His experience with BPS customer service to get the problems resolved were a nightmare. In some cases, the boat would get fixed only to end up with other stuff broken (including a hole punched into the bottom of the hull) when he went to pick it up. He lost much of the first summer of owning the boat to waiting on BPS to repair it. If you're set on buying a Nitro I would definitely suggest buying from a Nitro dealer vs. from BPS themselves. The dealer has more at stake and will do any repair work themselves vs BPS who farms all repair work out.

Steering System
I've used both. The rotary NFB seems a little more solid and takes up less room behind the dash than a R & P NFB system. It's also a tad more pricier. At least it was the last time I priced steering systems 4 years ago. As stated, if you've got $1000 to spare, a hydraulic system is the best way to go.

I need some help...
I was pretty disappointed that the 3DVR view turned out to be a fishing reel.

Decisions Decisions
I can't testify to the All Star ASR rod but I'd add an All Star Platinum series P846, 7' MHVY/Xfst to your list. The 846 series has been a tried and true C-rig rod in the All Star lineup for years. The Platinums are about as sensitive as you'll find in the price range and compare easily with higher priced rods. Pretty tough too. Despite the fact it's made with high modulus graphite, which tend to make a rod more fragile, the Platinums can take a licking and keep going. I've got a Titanium 846 C-rig rod that's all beat up from sinkers banging on the blank and it just keeps going and going.

Newer Pflueger baitcasters
If you look at the new President and the new BPS Pro Qualifier, they look extremely similar. The Pro Qualifier stands out as being different than the other BPS reels like the JM's, Clunn or the Extremes. The ergonomics of that reel scream Revo/Patriarch/New President. Note the thumb screw side plate release. All the other BPS reels I listed use the pushbutton release on the sideplate. I suspect that frame style, BPS is calling it a "Series 10", is common place and the different companies merely design their own ergonomics around the mechanical specs. Many of the internal parts are probably interchangeable.

Newer Pflueger baitcasters
I traded in my Revo's on Pfluegers. Mostly Patriarchs and a Summit. I have no experience with the new President at all. I can tell you this. I've pulled the main and pinion gears out of a Revo and put them on the Patriarch main shaft along with the drag stack and they're a perfect match. The reel works fine with the Revo bits in it. Looking inside a Revo and a patriarch, I can't tell the two apart other than the ergonomics of the frame which are slight. While the Revo's are nice reels, good fit in the hand, nice drag, very good line capacity and very smooth, the braking systems leave a lot to be desired. The linear mag braking is junk compared to the mag braking on the Pfluegers. (which oddly, is the mag braking system Garcia used to use on their old LP reels). The Centrifugal brakes on the Revo S work better but the assembly itself is rather cheap, nowhere near as refined as on the Pfluegers. Then again, the Pflueger Patriarch and Summit have dual brakes, centrifugal and mag. A great combination that work well together or apart. I used them this fall and have zero complaints nor any regrets from switching from Garcia, a brand I've used for 34 years.

Shad locked in the ice
A trick often used is to fish the ice/waters edge. Toss a jerkbait onto the ice and then drag it off. Shad this time of year get over stressed from the cold water and start dying off. These are the ones you see on their sides barely swimming. Those are easy pickings for lathargic, cold water bass.

Where the heck is Bill Dance fishing?????
No kidding. There were no BASS universities to attend, no bass fishing DVD's, bass websites, no Bass Pro Shops, no real industry geared towards bass fishing like there is today, nor any other pro's to learn from because they were the first pro's. They broke the ground and built the foundation. Virtually everything they discovered in their fishing is just as relevant today as it was back then. All of bass fishing owes them a great deal of gratitude for their accomplishments.

Rod Eye...
Replace the entire tip guide, the inner line guide is not available nor could you successfully press one back in and expect it to hold. Walmart sells Fuji tip replacement kits for around $7 or so. 3 sizes of tips. I'm betting that rod will take the smallest size. Instructions are included.

Motor for jon boat
A member here got a 9.9 Nissan 2 stroke and used it over the season. While he said he likes it he wishes he could've afforded a more expensive 2 stroke Yamaha of the same HP. Smoother, a little more power and quieter.

freight charge?
You are paying for the charge to truck ship from the factory to the sales floor. Regardless of whether it's a floor model or not, it had to be trucked to that location.

lefthanded bait caster? and gear ratio help
If you're looking to purchase 1 baitcaster in the price range the Extremes are in (on sale), I'd say you've found the best reel for that kind of money. The 6.4 would be an OK compromise on speed. Just slow down when using crankbaits.

Rick Clunn Baitcast Reel
Rick Clunn RCX 1000. Had 2 of them. Those things will cast a mile. Great reels. If the reel in question is a new Clunn, Blue in color you got a great deal and the reel should give you great service.

Bass Pro Shops.........are you kidding me?
A Revo S is NOT worth $129.

OK, I have counted to ten. . .
Talquin has bass up to 14lbs! Outstanding. I've heard that Deer Pointe in Panama City has some big uns close to that size. Nice to see what you've got to shoot for down there. BTW, I also don't see where the fish was killed.

Where the heck is Bill Dance fishing?????
One more time..... 23 National Bass Titles; Bassmaster Classic Qualifier 8 out of 9 years and finished 2nd in 1973. Three time B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year 1970, 1974 & 1977. Of 78 total B.A.S.S. entries, finished 64 times in the money. 7 wins, 8 times runner up, 6 third place, 40 top ten finishes (51% of tournaments entered) and 51 top 20 finishes (65%). In first 11 tournaments, was only out of the top 7 once. Won 7 of the first 17 events entered (41%). During that time he was fishing against Roland, Jimmy, Tom Mann, Tommy Martin, Rick Clunn, John Powell, etc. Fish Fishburne could only dream of a tournament fishing career like Bill had.

The month of Dec. on eBay
shhhhhh...... Ebay has been a great place to pu great bargains, especially on the Patriarchs. No need to spread that word around too much.

keeping the original reel boxes?
I've actually sold boxes for certain hard to find collector Garcia reels for as much as $15 - 20. ;D I usually keep them. You never know if the time may come to sell and the addition of the box along with all the goodies inside adds about $5-10 to the overall reel price.

Who constructs the BPS Johnny Morris Limited series baitcast reel?
I was referring to the business side of the reels (crank plate side). I disassembled a Revo S and my Patriarch on Saturday. (BTW, a Summit is virtually the same as a Patriarch) Removed the main and pinion gears along with the drag stacks and swapped them. Perfect fit. The only difference was the Pflueger drive gear is aluminum vs. the brass Revo gear. This got me to thinking, Garcia has a 5.4 gear set available if you want to downgrade the speeds on the Revo's. 5Basslimit had a couple of his reels done that way. I'm going to get the part numbers and change a couple patriarchs to the slower speed to use for cranking. Another thing. While I don't have a good way to measure drag pressure (I used a electronic fish scale) I was able to gain 2 extra pounds of drag pressure by inserting one of the Revo washers from the upper part of the main shaft (on the outside of the roller bearing) onto the Patriarch. It did make putting the handle back on a little more interesting but it worked. The JM reels are also extremely close, mechanically to the other 2 reels. The drive gear on the JM reel though is slightly larger in diameter. They also use a slightly different re-engage method with a spring mounting than the other 2. BTW, the other side of the Garcia/Pflueger reels is where the big difference lies. Spool swapping isn't possible since the Pflueger's have 2 different spool widths. I thought about trying to swap the "el-cheapo" Revo S centrifugal brakes with the Patriarch brakes but it just won't happen. There are differences in the spool ends that make that impossible.

Add a blue rod handle wrap, cajun red line, orange reel handles and one of 5 bass limits yellow rod sleeves and you can call yourself the "Rainbow warrior angler"

People Change: Even Best Friends (Need Advice)
I don't see how you can possibly say I'm the one that went off the deep end. That's exactly what everyone else said, and that's incorrect. The only thing I did was get mad and and leave and ask him to get my case. He's the one that tried to fight me. I didn't confront him or cuss him out or try to fight him or even yell. The problem is that people who don't play an insrument just don't get it. Musicians are very picky about their equipment. One of my friends I've known for years who I'm starting a band with won't even let me touch his guitar. Ask any musician how they would react if someone spilled beer in their guitar and they would all be ticked. Granted, I should not have played it in that situation but I've done it countless times in the past without any issues. I certainly won't bring it around alcohol ever again. But honestly, I did not overreact, I merely got mad and asked him to get my case. I don't see how anyone can say that me getting mad because he spilled beer inside my expensive guitar means I'm the one that overreacted. It's a natural human response to get upset in that situation. The guy tried to fight me! Who the hell tries to fight someone after they spilled beer in a guitar and the other guy got mad? That's totally backwards. He shoulda just said sorry but instead he wanted to fight. Just because someone becomes a Marine doesn't make them an invincible badass. I had every right to get mad when something like that happens, and I even told him a few minutes later that I wasn't mad anymore and that accidents happen and I understand that. You said in your initial post I'll try and be nice. You over reacted and acted like a baby. I'd be mad alright, mad at myself for bringing it to a drinking party. crap happens. Your initial description of how you reacted sounded "drama queenish". It's a guitar, it can be fixed. Friendships aren't so easy to mend. So you WERE drunk. Not only were you drunk but you admit to making the wrong decision and driving home that way. Sounds like a series of mistakes. Booze does that. Holding a grudge against someone for something said under the influence is petty. He obviously wasn't in his right mind and neither were you. Get over it. He was supposed to act differently how to your over reaction? Throw himself at your feet and beg forgiveness? I can imagine there was a hint of disrespect in your voice as you were ranting. I'm sure he picked up on it and took it as such. Remember, you and he were drunk. The rules of human behavior get tossed out the door when you are.

People Change: Even Best Friends (Need Advice)
1. You overreacted. You took a very expensive guitar to a booze party and somebody ACCIDENTLY spilled beer on it. It happens. 2. You got way over torqued over an accident. Yep, beer on a guitar isn't a good thing but this guy is your best friend and obviously didn't intentionally mean to do this. 3. Booze and a guy just out of Marine basic training don't mix well. Yes, he's probably changed a little. They don't teach gardening or crocheting there. He's spent the past few months learning the Marine way to resolve conflicts... with a bayonet or the business end of an M16. He's still a little "keyed" up, turning that off takes a bit. 4. Apologize to the guy for going off the deep end. In the end it'll all be alright.
