  1. Wind. Period. I was out yesterday, sustained winds at 20, gusts to 30. It was ridiculous. What made it worse was a tough bite. I normally would've picked up the pace with soft plastics or a jig but it's tough to drop a bait in front of fish and hold it there when the boat is going all over the place. It seems like the midwest has been in a windy pattern this entire spring, on top of all the rain that's muddied up the waters. Probably the worst spring season, conditions wise that I can ever remember.
  2. I installed stereo's for about a year and a half for a company called CMC stereo back in the late 70's. I'll admit that I did put in a number of 8-tracks though those were fading and being replaced by.... Cassettes..... {crickets chirping} Back then they didn't have quite the equipment available that they have now. A really great system (even by todays standards) would be a Top of the line Clarion or Alpine indash with a Fosgate Punch 20watt per channel amp fed into Pioneer 6" 3 way door speakers and 3 way 6x9's in the back. Those Fosgates had incredible distortion numbers that nearly matched the stereo equipment that was being sold up on the main sales floor. I kinda liked the job. My hands were cut up all the time but it was a great way to meet chicks. I quit because it just didn't seem like a long term job. I mean, I couldn't imagine myself being 30 years old and crawling around inside the trunk of a Toyota or Datsun.
  3. The delete button in the profile settings no longer deletes your profile but instead, completely erases your hard drive. Neat trick.
  4. My wife and I got stimulated by the goverment last night while we slept. $1200 bucks sitting in the account right now. Still looking for that right Aluminum V boat fixer upper.
  5. Never ASSUME any driver is going to do anything! Always expect them to do the opposite of what they should be doing. If you're not certain you can make a driving maneuver without causing another driver to have to perform an evasive maneuver to avoid you, then don't try the maneuver! You're a young, inexperienced driver who's going to have his hands full just keeping your vehicle moving down the road correctly, at the correct speed and in the right lane. I can't stress this enough, never put your vehicle into a position while driving that relys upon the attentiveness and skills of another driver to avoid you due to a mis-judgement on your part. You can't rely on others nor should you. Always err on the side of cautious. Good luck.

Clearly, posting the contents of personal emails and/or pm's is not good. It betrays trust regardless of the reasoning. I think it would've been a better idea for muddy to have forwarded those emails to Glenn or one of the mods and let them deal with it, which it sounds like Glenn did. Sorry to see muddy go. He was a good guy.
  7. Neither do I! ;D I probably skip over 98.5% of all threads posted on this board so it's not unusual I guess. What just blows me away is the constant animosity from some posters here. Like I said, I've been a member of many forums, mostly OW racing forums over the years. With the CART/IRL split in that form of racing, to say those forums could get nasty is an understatement. Yet it was rare for folks to walk away from a forum and try and make a statement doing it, in fact, if you did you were generally laughed at. Geez, this is a fishing forum for goodness sakes. ;D
  8. No, your posts stay, your name just has ex-member by it. That seems to create more problems around here than the post count deal.
  9. I have so many different brands of spinnerbaits in my box I'm not even sure what half of them are. One thing about all of them though is quality components. Ball bearing swivels for the blades and quality sharp hooks on the business end. Otherwise, I've rarely ever seen a situation where there was a "best" spinnerbait out there.
  10. I've bought 3 the past couple weeks for around $45, shipping included off of ebay. I finally used one last Friday. For the money, it's a pretty amazing reel. It has the feel of a Revo on the rod. Looking it over the fit and finish isn't in the Revo range but it's also only 1/2 the price. It's got a clicker drag system which worked well. The thing casts quite nicely. I didn't mess with the mag braking adjustment much. Set it about mid point and flung away. Nice reel for the money, we'll have to see how it holds up over the season.
  11. Black helicopters Grassy knolls. Honestly, the post count thing has been removed, why not eliminate the ability for people to delete their account? I've been on quite a few forums over the years but I've never seen anything like this. :
  12. Standing at the back, loosen the bolt holding it and turn it towards the left. This creates resistance to the left and hopefully will counteract your right hand torque. In the meantime, go ahead and let go of that wheel. Doing 360's on a cool spring morning can be quite exhilerating.
  13. I have a old Bionic Blade IM6 pistol grip that Stacey King used to own. Med action. I throw topwaters with it most of the time. I also have a All star BCM6, 6' med action I use with small crankbaits and other lighter lures. I've also got a pair of original 6' Berkley Lightning Rods, both over 20 years old. I gave them to my wife but sneak them out every once in awhile. They're fun to fish with and amazingly light and sensitive. Those rods were way ahead of their time back then.
  14. BPS, Cabela's, West Marine (prepare to have your wallet cleaned out), your local boat dealership. Exact, specific parts for that boat haven't been available for many years. Anything you'll need is available aftermarket at places I just listed.
  15. Pour? Fiberglass boats aren't "poured", they're either hand laid FB matting saturated with FB resins or they're shot with a chopper gun. That model probably has a composite transom. While people laud the no-rot advantage of that type of construction, what they don't realize is that composite transoms are more suceptable to crack, internally, if an undue force strikes it since the composite is less capable of flexing than one made of wood. If the shop did what they're supposed to do, I'm sure you'll have no problems.
  16. More than likely your steering cable is binding due to dried up grease inside of it. Don't bother asking about lubing it, it's a waste of time on something that old. Besides, you don't want a temporary fix on that part of a boats operation. Steering cables in the condition yours are in have been known to break while the boat is underway at speed. Not knowing what you've got, I'd suggest either a Rotary or Rack & Pinion NFB system from Teleflex or, if you're interested in "power steering", a hydraulic system from the same company. Know that a hydraulic system is probably going to cost at least 3 times the cost of a standard steering system.
  17. Yes, a pretty tame one at that. :
  18. I can't stand watching that show myself.
  19. I've also picked up a few Silver Maxs over the past week or two. Had the opportunity Friday to try one out for the first time. Pretty amazing reel. It's obvious that the fit and finish isn't the same as a Revo but as far as castability and everything else a reel has to do, it works perfectly and feels like a Revo on the rod. Since I spent around $42 on each reel NIB, they're looking like a really affordable option. Now we'll have to see how they hold up over the season.
  20. Rumor has it Glenn had a bag of the Hannon snakes in his boat over the winter. The snakes melted clear through the bag, then the compartment floor and then ate a hole in the bottom of the boat. It was like the movie Alien. ;D He had to go.
  21. It's all due to the sub-prime mortgage mess. There was something on the news the other night about the ever increasing numbers of hives being foreclosed on. Worker bees having to take second jobs to make ends meet. Drones seen at highway exit off ramps holding signs that say: "Will work for pollen, God Bless". Several queens have been seen holding baby bees in their laps while they drive, Partying late night at the clubs with Paris, interventions, rehab clinics.... it's getting really ugly to be a bee these days.
  22. That's through spell checker. :
  23. Along with assessing your lake and giving you the best stocking ratio's of species for maximum success.
  24. http://lakesunleader.com/articles/2008/04/27/outdoors/01.txt Using this as a reference, it appears the fish are staging up for the spawn right now. Looks like the cold, muddy water coming in may be putting a damper on things.
