  1. ;D Hey catt, this 12 year old is schooling you! Seriously. Bentz began his career in the bass fishing industry as a consultant for Hydra Sports boats. He later went on to start up Stratos boats (which he later sold to the OMC group) and then started up Triton. He hasn't raced boats in probably 30 years or more. Livewells in bass boats became a necessity when BASS tournaments began getting bad raps for the "meat displays" at weigh ins. Bass used to be drug up (figuratively) to the scales and then they were later cleaned and donated to local charities. The backlash of such huge numbers of bass being pulled out of lakes for a tournament was predictable and understandable. Thus, BASS's "Don't Kill Your Catch" was born along with the livewell.
  2. Neoprene covers I got off of Ebay. I paid about $4 each.
  3. Unless someone beat me to it, I just ordered the 7 footer.
  4. I doubt you'd find any poll that would show MG over MK. I have a feeling they'd be pretty even.
  5. I've owned one. There have been a number of variations of the Quick release mount/bracket. They all basically do the same thing. Mine was on an old power drive TM from the early 90's and it was one of the first models out. It wasn't the greatest design, they've improved them a great deal over time. I got one because the kids loved to jump off the front of the boat when we'd go family camping at the lake. Being able to pull the motor off for the swimming/tubing/skiing thing was really nice. It also allows you to get the motor off the deck over the winter. Also lets you pull the TM off if you're parked in an area overnight that you're not 100% comfortable with as far as theft. And yes, you can change TM's and not have to worry about bolt holes aligning up.
  6. I've got 2 SC's, an SX and 5 S reels. I love them. I'm planning on changing all my crankin reels to S reels and installing the low speed gears unless Abu releases the reels first.
  7. Unless you're renting with the option to buy I'm not sure why you'd bother to go through the amount of work and expense needed to strip off and redo the floor.
  8. As I recall, that deal only went for like a year. They had one of those T's over at Rend lake in Illinois. They would fish for half a day and then the second half was the boat races. Their combined score between the 2 competitions was used to determine the winner. Some of the boat and engine manufacturers took the boat racing part pretty seriously with fairings to stream line the front of the boat and exotic props and such. Pretty much a gimmick. It's also pretty understandable why Ranger would'nt have wanted to be involved in a competition that involved it against other brands. ;D I remember Denny Brauer and a couple other pro's were completely against it even though they participated. Some really got into it though.
  9. I've spent time fishing the lower Meramec from around Valley Park down to the confluence of the Mississippi. The bass population is actually very healthy with fish up to 4-5 lbs present. Unfortunately, the river usually only has enough water in it for prop driven boats to run it from around April - the end of June. The past couple years with the drought, not even then. The problem isn't even the amount of water in the river basin itself but in finding decent launch ramps when the water is low. A jet drive would really open up your range of opportunities and allow you to run the full length of the river all the way up to Pacific and further upstream.
  10. I've heard the vest work well but they can and do occasionally go off if they're in a storage box and the air is really damp.
  11. You should plan on a cover for any boat you have that has any sort of finish on it or decking with carpet. You're not only protecting it from rain but also, bird doo doo, bugs, UV rays from the sun, dirt/sand/dust blowing around, small hail, snow/sleet/ice (in some parts of the country). All of that plays havoc on fiberglass and or carpeting/wood decking. BTW, you're less likely to draw interest from prying eyes if the thing is covered vs a fully exposed boat. Stuff like TM's and anything else left in compartments are a little more protected.

The only time I was ever into wrestling was back during Superstar Billy Grahams short run in the sport. He was a wrestler that was way ahead of his time and probably the guy most responsible for the way wrestling looks today.
  13. IIRC, the 1st Bassmasters Classic had the competitors in matched Inboard drive Rebel Bassboats at lake Mead.
  14. Lewis does sell a floating version of the trap. I've got several of them. They float at rest and dive about 1-2 feet on retrieve. You can add suspend dots or strips to them and make them suspend. There, I just gave away a little secret of mine.
  15. 70mph and cruiser wakes don't mix. I think his "I had gotten lax" statement is right in-so-far as his boat driving and no pfd on. A wake that size doesn't exactly sneak up on you. Glad he's alright though. With todays inflatable PFD's there's no reason not to be wearing one anytime the big motor is running above idle speed. Judging from the accident description, it must have been a pretty violent snap around. I hooked a wave once and only wound up on the passenger side of the boat, I wasn't going anywhere near WOT though. Best wishes on a speedy recovery Gary.
  16. Co-poly for most of my fishing.
  17. I have a All Star Titanium 7' MHVY. Good rod for the job. Light and sensitive.
  18. 1. Tilt the OB to the fully up position. Remove the fill plug and top off the reservoir. Reinstall the plug. Turn the manual valve screw clockwise until it stops. Slowly pull upward on the tilt rod to allow the fluid to fill the lower tilt cylinder chamber. Repeat this step again. Now turn the manual valve CCW until it stops. Slowly push down the tilt rod to allow the fluid to enter the upper tilt cylinder. Repeat all these steps above to completely bleed and fill the system. I'd suggest getting yourself a Clymer manual BTW.
  19. Well, you've got the right boat for the chine walking part. ;D Seriously, if you want to shoot the rough water part, haul yourself West to Lake of the Ozarks this summer. Pick any weekend but in particular, 4th of July or Labor day weekends. Shoot your video running from the dam to the Grand Glaize bridge. If you can handle that you can handle anything. BTW, I'd suggest getting yourself a Champion or Storm boat to make that run, anything else will pound your vertebrae together into one fused mass.
  20. I would suggest going to the Missouri conservation website to get locations to river access points.
  21. Cart, Are we still meeting by the pool at noon? ;D Yep, drinks and just about everything else are on kb.....er uh ME! ;D
