  1. Yes. I've never shipped rods though. I imagine the costs would be higher.
  2. I kept a 7lber I caught 2 weeks ago and tossed it on ice. I was out around dusk getting ready to spotlight deer when I saw the fish swirl. Got it on a live minnow. We had barely got the cooler lid closed on the fish when a couple Bald Eagles flew within shooting range so we dropped them too. We wound up gut shooting around 6 deer later that night but could never find any of them. Hard to figure too, as much as they were bleeding. Anyway. This past Sunday was a great Fish and fowl day for the smoker.
  3. a picture or two of the boat in the water would help.
  4. All the answers you need are already there. The shad are moving back into the coves. That's the food. The bass will be where the food is. As for specific patterns? take anything you hear with a grain of salt and realize patterns can change daily.
  5. Probably not a Brown Recluse. Those ******* have a flesh eating component in their venom much like many venomous creatures that will eat your flesh away over time. I got bit by a recluse and wound up with an area the size of a half dollar of eaten up exposed flesh with a hole going into my leg. I was lucky BTW, I've seen some really bad cases where the site was so huge that plastic surgery and skin grafts were required to close the open wounds.
  6. I always ship in 2" diameter well casing PVC. Cardboard is just to iffy. The last rod I shipped from St Louis to CA cost around $22 with $100 insurance with USPS priority. ALWAYS buy insurance.
  7. If you have 4k to spend and want something reliable that isn't going to turn out to be a problem your best bet is to go with an aluminum. While no used boat can be guaranteed to not have problems, investing 4k into an aluminum will get you a much newer boat than the same amount in a fiberglass.
  8. You're going to have to look at something in the mid- late 80's to early 90's for that kind of money. Regardless of brand.
  9. Yes, Seafoam is expensive and there's a reason. It has a cylinder decarb agent, cleans injectors and carbs, fuel stabilizer as well as neutralizing water in ethanol. Stabil is a fuel stabilizer and .........
  10. Dig around on Ebay for a early to mid 70's Abu round reel. Those ran around 3.8:1 ratio before Garcia bumped them up to 4.7.
  11. The two reels have some similarities. The Abu is made of plastic, the Curado, graphite.
  12. Quantum? They have a back ground alright. I wouldn't own one again.
  13. First of all, Extremes and even the Johnny Morris line of reels aren't really Pflueger reels in disguise. The BPS stuff may come from a Pure fishing factory and share some parts but I'd guess that's all that they share with Pflueger or Garcia. As for the quality, it's designed into the product. In the case of BPS, they tell the design team they want a 10 bearing reel to sell at this particular price point, it's up to the engineers and design team to make it happen no matter how. You're basically taking a 7 bearing extreme and adding 3 more bearings PLUS adding dual braking. I'm sorry but something has to give. Either the components will be junk ie: bearings, or the fit and finish will be substandard and won't stand the test of time, let alone a couple fishing seasons. I have a feeling you'll have a reel that occasionally makes unusual noises, doesn't sync up each time you crank it over to engage, has sporadic drag or has stuff break internally along the way that ONLY BPS will be able to fix. While I've never fished with a Browning reel, I've handled a few. They were nothing spectacular and weighed way too much for what you were getting despite the fact they were cheaper than a comparable reel, even comparing them to BPS house reels.
  14. It would appear that the reel has graphite end plates. For a graphite end plate reel, 8.9oz is awfully heavy. Given the price, I'd really have to wonder about the durability of the reel.
  15. How about a picture of the koi pond?
  16. 1959 = The majority of households in the US were a one worker family. Dad worked, Mom stayed home and took care of the kids. 2009 = As long as no ones been laid off, it's a 2 worker household. It has been for at least 20 + years now. Kids are raised in day cares. Mommy and Daddy have "careers". Those same parents have no problem parking their kids in front of TV sets or Video games to keep them busy. With so little time spent with their children to teach them the rights from wrongs, they invented the term "quality time" as an excuse for that lack of upbringing their children have had. The kids, in the meantime, sit in front of the TV and watch smarmy TV shows where the cute, obnoxious kids run the household and the parents are imbiciles. It's no wonder the kids have little to no respect for their elders? Why should they? The parents, feeling guilty for their lack of time with their own children, fail to properly punish their kids for their bad behavior. No, instead they try and be their friends and reason with them and give them minimal timeouts. If something happens at school, they rush in to save the day, lawyer in tow and attempt to displace blame away from their child and onto school officials. Yep, Little Johnny or Suzy can't be held accountable for their actions. It's not their fault they've spent their time learning right from wrong from a TV set. Little Johnny or Suzy have no concept of taking responsibility for their actions at all. If they misbehave it's obviously somebody elses fault. It's a learned experience. Unfortunately, the reaction from schools these days is often over reaction. It's the end result of too many out of control students with lousy parents who will take the childs side over the school because of their own guilt over what a wizz poor job they did raising their kids. The school systems are merely trying to survive given the student body they have to work with. Its the cause and effect of this society today. I'm glad I'm just about done with mine. A few more years in college and the last one is ready for making his own way in life. I'm happy my wife stayed home as long as she did. Nope, we don't have the big house, don't have 2 really nice cars in the garage and I don't own a $50k bassboat. The sacrifices were worth it though.
  17. No fire ants here either but I'd love for Ortho to make something similar for moles...... >
  18. The guy is operating on a completely different level than anyone else. Every tournament turns into all the other competitors VS. KVD. There should be no more questions, he's the best tournament bass angler ever.
  19. Don't store them in a dank, moldy basement? :-?
  20. If it's a lake managed by a state fish and game department your best bet would be to contact the person(s) responsible for managing the fishery. They usually have a pretty good idea of what's in a specific lake and may be able to offer some valuable tips on how the bass population relates to the food sources.
  21. I've heard lots of good things about the Bass Cat carpet. Remember though, at 24oz you're going to have some very tight fitting lids and some extensive shaving will be needed to get those lids to open and close correctly.
  22. IIRC, the Olive back, chart side, orange belly craw pattern is SV/SP 53. The one next to it, Blue back, chart side, orange belly is SV/SP 52. These were the suspending series that didn't come in the traditional blue or red label box but on a blister card that included suspend dots in the package. They were a fairly regional distribution, most of them going to midwest tackle stores. If you see them on the forums, ****** them up ASAP. They sell fast. Normal going price for either of those NIB on Ebay is around $15-20.
  23. A 5 hour drive before a tournament? I'd fish fewer tournaments and use the money saved to get a motel room or camp. You're going to hit fatigue and burnout before noon most days. A lack of mental alertness is not going to put you in the money often, not too mention the dreaded 5 hour drive home.
