Yet Another Lake Tragedy
Reminds me of an accident that happened at the gas dock/floating bar/floating restaurant a number of years ago at Lake of the Ozarks. The gas guy came to fill the main gas storage tank up on the hill above the marina and forgot to open the vent on the tank. The tank ruptured spilling hundreds of gallons down the hill and into the water at the marina. A spark from somewhere lit the whole thing up. Everybody managed to get off the dock and boats but the whole place, along with a few boats got burnt to a crisp. That incident changed the way gas docks operated from that point on. Major upgrades to land based fuel storage for gas docks had to be made to remain a viable, on-lake fuel seller. Costly.

Two hurt in KY river
Key word here is "cable". Most V6 powered boats have either dual cable steering or hydraulic steering. If it's a dual cable, a cable can break and you'll still have the second cable to at least control the boat until you can get it whoa'd down. If a hydraulic line goes, you're SOL. The best prevention is monitoring your steering system throughout the season and always where a PFD and a kill switch.

Lure Pass #1 About to kick off!
;D Sounds like an old card game I used to play called "pass the trash".

Crazy Boat Crash!!!
That's an old video that's been posted before. The end was completely predictable given how the boat was being driven into the wake of that other boat.

LOZ baitfish questions?
Seawalls = Dam to the Hurricane deck bridge. There's seawalls everywhere down there.

"Professional Overruns" with heavy mono?
Trilene XT, over 12 lb test starts to get a bit stiff. I imagine 17lb would be tough too cast on a regular baitcaster.

high wind fishing
Wind gusts to 30-35mph. Ridiculous. I don't recommend. As for waves? Lake of the Ozarks fishing main lake points and docks on a summer weekend in the evenings. Even at 7-9pm the rollers are running from 3-5 feet regularly and they come at you from different directions. It's imperative that your back seat fishermen keep the guy at the front informed of rogue waves coming from the backside so the front guy can turn the boat in time

First Year Hunter Question..
Honestly, if you only have one deer and you want to take full advantage of everything you can do with the meat like having some smoked, jerky, snack sticks, sausages, etc, your best bet is a butcher. We used to do several deer at a time. We also had access to a meat grinder and a sausage stuffer. We'd buy all the ingredients ahead, casings for the sausage, extra pork as filler along with a couple galvanized wash tubs to mix it all in and spend a day drinking beer and processing deer. It was a lot of work.

bimini top on bass boat
A friend had a Mark Twain style ski boat with one. We used to family camp with them when the kids were younger during the summer. Despite the fact the top was there, on the boat ready to deploy whenever we wanted, it rarely ever was. It was something of a pain to put it up and although it got you out of the direct sunlight, it did get warm under that top unless there was a good breeze blowing. They're completely impractical for fishing, especially for the person on the back deck.

First Year Hunter Question..
Then what? Strap it across the hood of the car and drive through the middle of town a hoopin and a hollerin.

bimini top on bass boat
There used to be large umbrella deals ( like 6-8 feet across) on poles that folded out like an umbrella and the pole would fit in a floor pedestal base. The corners had ropes that you could tie down to railings or cleats. I've seen those in use and they're pretty practical and stow away nicely. They're also cheaper than a full fledged bimini top. Try checking at www.overtons.com

updated abandoned jon boat build look what i got
if you could recoup your expenses i think refurbishing old boats for a pass time would i great hobby. A hobby would be about the best you could describe it. You'd never recoup your expenses if you redid the boat right, at least right enough so somebody would pay $1500 for one like this Starcraft which is about the best price you would ever see. Even 80's V-hulls cheap enough (under a $1000) will probably need more materials and man hours than they'd be worth. If you had the skills and shop, you could turn a late model boat boat that had been damaged in an accident to the point the insurance company totaled it. You'd have to be able to get the materials wholesale though to make it work.

What fishing gear have you lost overboard?
Kicked a rod and reel off the deck once. I've had a couple combo's go overboard running down the lake. Had a MK powerdrive TM go off the front of the boat (that was a good thing). I had a double sided Plano tackle box go overboard while running the lake. One side flipped open spilling crankbaits all over the place. I was able to save that along with all the lures. Had a back pedestal seat somehow come undone and leave the boat on the way to the lake. Had a dead start battery once, went to swap one of the trolling motor batteries for the dead one and the start battery slid off the deck and into the lake. that's about it.

I'd switch "Dreams I'll never see" with "Flirtin with Disaster". Add "Another mans woman" - Atlanta Rhythm Section. "If you wanna get to heaven" - Ozark Mountain Daredevils. "Fast as you" - Dwight Yoakum

What's up with reels getting faster and faster??
It's about sales and marketing. As I noted in my above post, reel speeds have been used in the past to sell more reels, the reel industry has to have something new to sell. Whether it's speed, weight, number of bearings, profile, color, etc.

You're Invited to the 5th Annual BassResource.com Roadtrip!!!
Thanks for the heads up Leo. I'll add that to the list I've made to this point: If you see RW crawling in the middle of the road across from the Lodge, he's only going for more liquor and cigarettes. Do not attempt to surprise Burley by awakening him, he sleeps in the nude. Bring plenty of extension cords. The old guys may need extra outlets to charge their boats and personal mobility vehicles. Mike will go both ways, he's also in charge of drowning the non-boaters. Prepare to evacuate the lake region if Leo eats pancakes, otherwise, just ignore him if he's hanging around Muddy's cabin in high heels or pumps.

What's up with reels getting faster and faster??
I remember when I bought some aftermarket "Buzz" gears for my old red Ambassadeur in the late 70's. It raised the ratio to a scorching 4.7:1! Now that was some speed baby.

Rod Marketing is No-Brainer....
I'm still hanging with the companies that make fishing rods the old fashion way and not something that looks like it was turned on a lathe. I think the difference in this SG rod fad is these new rods really offer nothing in the way of an advantage over traditional rods. If the rods actually offered more sensitivity or comfort vs old style rods you'd see this new genre in rods a stayer in the business. It doesn't though.

Predict your NFL Teams record.
I agree with your assessment but the record will be 15-1. The Rams will surprise everyone. I think the Rams will be along the lines of 4-12 That does it. 16-0.

Short Butt Jerkbait Rods
I fish All Star Titanium 783 model rods for jerkbaits. They're called topwater specials but they work even better as jerkbait rods. They have a relatively short handle on them.
