  1. I've noticed that the formula for determining the surcharge is completely determined by how the person at the counter interprets it. Most of them charge me a standard $18-21 to ship, others seem confused by the formula and what exactly to measure and I wind up paying much less. It sounds like you've got some postal worker that doesn't understand the formula. I'd always make sure he/she was working when I shipped rods.
  2. A lightning rod from Wally world would be a better choice.
  3. Poke around on craigslist.
  4. Once a rod package goes over 6' in length, it goes into a different charge rate since the carriers, USPS, UPS and FedEx are not equipped for something that long to go down their normal conveyor systems in their distribution facilities. It has to be hand carried. That's what adds to the price. I ship single rods in 2" pvc well casing you can get at Lowes for around $5. A single 6'6" rod will take at least a 79" length of pipe. Depending on where it's going determines the price but I've paid anywhere from $15-21 to ship a rod like that. There are formula's they use that add length, circumferance, weight and then the zone it's going to. Obviously, a 7' long rod will cost more. Always collapse telescoping flippin sticks to save money. Rods 6' and under usually don't cost much more than $12-13 to ship.
  5. Before ARB's, all reels had backplay. Lot's of it as compared to todays reels. Why do you ask?
  6. I have a 320C I'm going to be listing on the board here over the weekend. Reads easily in bright light, nice resolution that picks out the thermocline in the auto mode. It easily see's your lure if your bouncing it along the bottom under the transducers cone. I'm putting a 510C in the 320's place. Keep your eye open on the flea market board.
  7. Again, this is no joke, you need to add at the top of your list your findings from the state as the legality of what your doing along with a talk with your insurance agent and the state as to your liability and insurance needed for this pond your creating by damming the water. You can be held liable for property damage along with personal injury in the event of a catastrophic dam failure that sends large amounts of water downstream. This has become a serious issue in many states and often, engineering studies on your potential dam must be completed before you can turn the key on that bulldozer.
  8. While being a man of his word would've been nice, you'd have had a lot more leverage with a committal to buy in writing along with a deposit down, including a date of delivery upon the water test of the boat on a prescribed date. Since there was no loan involved, your end of the deal is clear as stone. I'm sure this guy is probably in the heart of his tournament schedules and doesn't want to be boatless but...... he did offer to sell. Press him for a clear cut date for a test run and final transfer of title if the test goes well.
  9. Check your state and local regulations. It's illegal in many places to put obstructions in marked navigation channels.
  10. After filling the scratch with the black marker, fill the rest of the scratch up with clear fingernail polish. This will involve a trip into the ladies cosmetics department at Walmart.. ;D
  11. Houston, you've got problems. Once the outer shell has been compromised down to the fiberglass matting, especially in an area below the water line, the fiberglass will begin to absorb water and then delaminate. Once that process is underway the repair can be expensive as the hull area that is damaged must be removed and then gel and new matting extending beyond the actual damaged glass. Possible repair from the inside may be necessary which would involve pulling the cap. $$$$$ the longer you wait.
  12. Another play on the myth was the Electric Light Orchestra's song, "Fire on High".. The very beginning of the song was intentionally recorded backwards, it's clear when you listen to the song. Playing the record backwards left no question as to what was being said.
  13. I was under the impression that the "Shimano Product Support Board" was specifically for product support A board specifically for products that supposedly don't break?
  14. First, there's no reason why she can't learn, my wife took to baitcasters pretty quick. Step one. Practice away from the lake when you're not fishing. Your remark tends to indicate that you didn't want to be troubled by taking the time to show her how while you were busy fishing. Step 2. Make sure her rod is about a medium action. You want a tip that loads quickly and helps get the lure traveling through the air. I'd suggest an Extreme by BPS. You can get them fairly cheap on ebay. IIRC, BPS was selling last years reels for $40. They're pretty decent casters to learn on for a first timer. The ITB braking works pretty well.
  15. Ragetail Anaconda's Luck E Strike Sneaky snakes Ditto Gator tails (no longer made but Zoom sells a G tail worm that's really similar)
  16. BR members Bob Lusk and Big O (Mr. Ragetail) would be the guys to contact.
  17. Winds from the east = Fish bite the least. That's the only one of the 3, (the others, wind north=fish go forth, wind south=fish open their mouth) I've found to have a real bearing on my fishing over the years. I seriously doubt that the decreased fish activity has anything to do with the wind direction and more to do with the barometric pressure associated with whatever passing front or air pressure system was causing the easterly wind. Most of the time, Easterlies here in the midwest are caused by high pressure parked north of us or this area being on the far north end of a low pressure system passing to the south.
  18. Shouldn't this be on the She Man O board? Seriously, the board is right there so you guys can gush all over your reels without sickening the rest of us.
  19. I've never lived there, been there many times. The city has changed, for the worse. Many move south and commute up I-25 or out towards Boulder. It's a great place if skiing is your deal. The train runs back and forth from Winter Park during the season. My brother lived in Co. Springs for a few years in the 80's, it's also boomed but not nearly like Denver. It still has a little of that charm it used to have. The Rockies are beautiful. Great place to visit, for me anyway.
  20. If you're going to move there, and I don't know why someone who bass fishes would want to unless you had no other choice, I'd definitely opt for the 'springs'. Other cities. Nashville Raleigh-Durham Richmond Birmingham Huntsville Knoxville If you can tolerate the heat and humidity, Augusta Savannah Tallahassee Jacksonville Gainesville Ocala
  21. Bar B Que Fritos. You find them at Wally world every once in awhile but it seems like the Chili cheese flavor is the overwhelming favorite. Those are a touch too strong for my tastes.
  22. http://www.cart7.com/ Can I sue?
  23. If you're actually capable of syncing the music to the 3rd lions roar, you obviously haven't smoked enough to truly enjoy the music in the first place.
  24. I used to have an old style spinnerbait box. So old the plastic was falling apart and cracking due to rot. Got rid of it when I saw this tip on another forum. It's a CD case.
  25. A pair of nice ones!! Of course I meant the fish. If you play your cards right,
