  1. Bull hooey. 99% of those posts were not tearing him a new one. The vast majority of the posts in that thread were guys trying to figure out what he was fishing for in his post. Are we to pat the poor guy on the head, coddle him and tell him his latest purchase, $950, which is a WHOLE buncha money for a rod and reel was OK? Did he take food out of a childs mouth to do it? Is his family going to hurt because of it? He was obviously feeling buyers remorse but only he can decide for himself if the purchase was right for him. Getting arrogant and snotty with the membership here because we didn't provide just the right answers to solve his obvious guilt isn't our problem. He'd have been better off to have posted his question before he made the purchase. He could've saved himself over $250 doing so by just following some links in that thread. He could've gotten some advice and or suggestions for other equipment that's comparable but cheaper. You have to sack it up fella, if you're man enough to make the kind of money to spend that much money on a rod and reel you should also be man enough to feel confident in your decision and not go fishing for validation for your decisions.
  2. awesome bull red Steve!! I'm sure the cobia guys would love to see a 10" anaconda in a blackish color.
  3. I took a look at CJ's boat down at the road trip. It clearly has the build quality of any of the finest out there. As for the ride and how it compares to Ranger, Stratos, Triton, etc. All of those boats ride differently. The real question is what are you looking for in a bass boat ride. Top end speed? Rough water handling and a dry ride? Fishability at rest? Each boat is a little different.
  4. They could shave the weight into the mid 7's by merely getting rid of the old pflueger style handle and star drag mech and putting on a Revo mainshaft, star drag and STX handle. I hope they don't opt to get chintzy like Shimano and go graphite sideplates. That's a gutter no reel manufacturer needs to fall into.
  5. For anyone interested, this Sundays (July 5th) fishing times are 6am to 2pm. Entrance fee is $20 per boat with a optional $10 per boat Big Bass. See ya there.
  6. Don't take the sellers word on the compression test. Have the motor looked at. Check the transom for rot. That looks like a 300 series Ranger though it could be even older.
  7. 51 years old. Yikes, I'm 51. That really hits home. RIP Billy. :-[
  8. Bill Dance had a show on recently where he and Johnny Morris went Alligator Gar fishing on the Trinity. They released all in good condition except one brute JM caught which was going to go to the BPS aquarium. All caught on rod and reel. Scary big fish.

Geez, we can't post pictures of good looking women but Burley can post that..... uggghhh..
  10. Always done with the supervision of a woman.. yes I consider most projects as "opportunities" to increase my tool collection. "Honey, we'll need to add at least $250 to the project cost, I'll definitely need a __________ tool to do the job right.
  11. Prediction: Future Bassn Blvd thread topic. Anyone in south Florida know of a good tall and fat clothing store?
  12. I still use a co-poly. Realine though it's not made anymore. It's really been an outstanding line for me and I'm sure co-poly's made by the name brands will work the same. The advantages. Less stretch than standard mono's. Doesn't sink like a Flouro, something to think about when working some crankbait presentations and suspending jerkbaits. Better abrasion resistance than regular mono. Lays better on the spool vs. Flouro., less kinkiness. Cheaper than Flouro, a little more expensive than regular mono.
  13. All Star Platinum P815WWS. It's their Wacky worm special spinning rod. Team that with a Pflueger President XT and you're at the $200 mark.
  14. With the use of his oxygen tank.. Expelling enough hot air to blow out some candles isn't a problem for Mike. It comes rather naturally even at his age.
  15. I've seen both. Didn't care for Trainspotting. Deer Hunter is a tough movie to watch. Outstanding cast and movie but it's a pretty emotional movie to sit through. The Russian roulette scenes are particularly hard.
  16. I'd suggest getting a Clymer manual for that motor.
  17. If you lock Lucille and Curtis in the rod box long enough, would you wind up with a new little rod and reel in 9 month's?
  18. Stretching exercises before you go out in the morning. Get some supportive shoes. Take up your front deck carpet and put a layer of anti-fatigue matting down before gluing, new, 24oz carpet back down. Invest in one of the pro-control style recessed trolling motor trays. Take Ibuprophen throughout the day. Good luck.
  19. Sorry Glenn, the genie took everything including your lures. The genie also won't allow you to consider the boat as a package either. You can have the boat hull, boat motor, TM or the electronics seperately, not all together. Some of this depends on when you first started. 20 years ago, graphite rods were out there and pretty decent at the time. 30 + years ago when I started, the only thing we had were sluggish fiberglass rods. That's my pick, a sensitive rod. I'd put up with the bathtub boat with bone jarring ride pushed by the noisy, gas hungry OB with the Lowrance/Humminbird flasher and the under powered TM and the hooks that constantly needed sharpening tied to monofilament line that wasn't the most abrasion resistant and was pretty stretchy as long as I can feel my bait with the rod. As for the baits, I could catch fish on those today too. I'll beg the genie for a graph even though I probably won't get it.
  20. I'm SURE Cart didnt mean any disrespect by his comments, have you seen what he did to the front deck of his older Champion? The thing looks brand spanking new and looks GREAT! None what so ever. Any boat that's 20 + years old is a project boat, some are just in better shape so they're less of a project than others. His boat doesn't need much to spiffy it up quite nicely.
  21. 1972 Chevy Vega wagon. I kept a case of oil in the back for those frequent, every 80 mile, pull over oil additions.
  22. ATTENTION ALL OKLAHOMANS! The bright light and smoke you see outside is not an out of control brush fire certain to burn the state to the ground. REMAIN CALM! It'll go away as soon as Mike blows out all his birthday candles. HB Mike. ;D 8-)
  23. I've been using the George Cochran designed "Little Mr. Money" by Strike King. I really like that bait.
  24. It really depends on the time of the year and what water I'm fishing. If it's spring I'll probably have 14-15 total. If it's summer on a lake I normally fish and I know what the bite will probably be it will be as low as 2 or 3.
  25. Can't choose a rod and reel setup. Rod or reel, not both.
