  1. Nice work! The great part is you know you've got a solid boat underneath your feet. Congradulations, cap off resto's are the extreme and take guts to undertake.
  2. You got a deal at $500! Enjoy.
  3. Sounds like a good day on the lake. 8-)
  4. I used to be into photography. I'm clueless though on the digital aspect. I much more enjoyed working with different film types and how they could be manipulated. Golf. You wind up getting good to a point until you need to spend $$ on lessons. Frustrating game where success is almost completely dependent on swing mechanics. Auto racing, specifically Indy car racing. The CART/IRL split in 1996 pretty much took the wind out of my sales for that one. I watch some races now and still order my tickets to the Indy 500 but I'm not the passionate fan I once was. Bar B queing/Smoking meat. I'm just getting into this. Looks like fun with tasty rewards. All in all I've been hooked by bass fishing since I was probably 10 years old. That's 41 years and the desire and thrill of catching a LMB is the same now as it was way back then.
  5. Except for repainting and possibly redoing the gel.... If you want it done right.. do it yourself. Did you get a reference for this place? You got no written estimate nor even anything in writing about when it would be finished. This is the busiest time of the season for all boat dealerships. While that is no excuse for poor service, it's probable his guys are too busy rigging new boats to get to yours. Me thinks you let this go on too long.
  6. I added some ramps in Illinois and Missouri. Here's the web addy again. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=114551775841055112909.00046a771f22c0cf6ea57
  7. So when you go to fillet the 24lber, do you toss the 2 lber out with the rest of the guts or fillet it as well?
  8. Underground is another option I'm considering.
  9. Yes, as would saturday, sunday and monday. Unless the weather is dangerous outside Most anyday is a good day to go out.
  10. Hey!! No math is allowed on this board unless it's some length to girth ratio problem when we're arguing about the weight of a fish somebody caught and ate.
  11. So a bunch of you are headin back down to KY lake to cut the cheese eh? I'm sure we'll be able to smell it up in St Louis.
  12. Same boat, just different trim versions. Similar to the latest model, the 183. CX version is rated at 150hp, the Elite at 175 even though it's the same identical hull. If you want the higher HP plate on the boat you gotta spend the extra money for goodies you may or may not need.
  13. 70mph? Doubtful. That boat is actually rated for a 175, 70mph is possible with a 175, not with an 150 XR6. Great handling boat. Rear storage is a little skimpy but otherwise a great boat and 11k sounds about right in the ballpark. Champions been in the bassboat business for close to 35 years, they have always built a quality machine and are well known for having the best rough water ride available. Have the engine checked by a pro though and definitely take it for a test run. Good luck. If you buy it welcome to the Champion family.
  14. Smaller than Otis Goodmans 18 1/2lb......er uh.....15lb.....OK, it was slightly smaller........13lb.....I mean 12lb......OK, really it was only 10lb, giant he caught recently in Georgia. The official state (depending on who you ask) of the world record largemouth bass.
  15. The Revo S is a great reel, I wouldn't pay list price though, buy one from Ebay and save yourself $$. The JM sig reels are outstanding but slightly large and heavy. I have no experience with the Asaro. I'm with muddy though, that reel just doesn't seem to fit into the Pflueger line.
  16. I had a couple I test drove for a few months. They cast a mile. No problems tossing small baits with these. My problem was intermittant weird noises occurring on every 8-10 casts or so, as though stuff wasn't linking up correctly on reel engagement. They also just didn't feel solid though I will say all my other reels were Revo's at the time. For the money though, good reel. Longevity????
  17. Wow! You've got some really nice older Abu's there oldschool and in great condition.
  18. The old ambassadeurs had their own internal, centrifugal, 2 pin braking system which was on all the time. You adjusted it by changing the size of the brake pin sleeves. Unless you still have those, the reel probably has the original size that came with it. Adjusting that reel now comes down to the spool tension adjustment. Plenty of us learned on those old Garcia's. If you can learn to throw one of those todays reels will be a snap. BTW, mint vintage ambassadeurs do demand a high price among collectors. $450 for a 4500 seems a bit steep though.
  19. If the motor was running fine before the carb rebuilds I'd say you did something wrong. Stabil, even if dumped into the tank way above recommended amounts will cause the motor to smoke but wouldn't cause your problem. I did a rebuild on my carbs one year and had the same type of problem. It turns out some of my carb linkage was not hooked up right and was causing a timing issue. Most of the linkage parts looked very similar and in some cases were interchangeable with one another. I didn't pay enough attention when disassembling to make sure I didn't mix them up. I never let that happen again.
  20. Welcome and keep browsing. Pay particular attention the stickies at the top of the forums and read those first.
  21. Picture #1 seems pretty obviously photochopped. The guy's hands don't even line up; his left hand is holding this fish how?!!! Picture #3 seems photochopped. The guy's right hand fingers are HUGE and he's not even holding the fish out to the camera fully (his right elbow is near his body). Picture 1 is on the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation commissions webpage. It's also on Fish Chris's webpage. http://www.trophybassonly.com/index.htm Not sure they'd allow a doctored photo on a state sanctioned website. Picture 3 description. http://www.bigbass.co.za/
  22. 18lber from Florida some dude named fish chris with another 18lber. an 18-3 from Bacarrac. I dunno. There are a few things that can distort visual perspective in a photo. Distance from the lens and the actual lens itself. A wide angle lens tends to distort images to be larger than they are the closer they are to the lens. Looks like a really cheap camera was used to take that photo.
