  1. At $200-300 total for everything, you're going to have a problem buying 2 spinning outfits that are halfway decent. I'd suggest a couple Lightning rods from Walmart and a couple Pflueger Trion spinning reels. That should put you at around $150 leaving you the rest to spend on tackle.
  2. Despite the distance from the lodge, that pavilion was great for those evenings. Fireplace with the lake view out the window. Thanks for posting the link Glenn. 8-)
  3. All the wiring for 24 volts should be upfront somewhere. The 12/24/charge switch was more for back in the day when 24v TM's would run in either 12 or 24 volt mode. The charge position merely disconnected the batteries so a pair of chargers could be hooked up to the batteries for charging. Most of todays 24 volt TM's have only a pair of wires for 24v operation. It really depends on what TM you have. I will say a 12volt TM is way too small for a 19 1/2 foot boat. I also remember those Cajun digital dashes. They were pretty revolutionary but something that, if it fails, will be impossible to replace.
  4. 2 broken bolts is a NIGHTMARE!!??? LOL
  5. How old is old? Even if parts aren't available, there is a pretty strong market among collectors on ebay that will give you a pretty decent price for them if the reels are in good physical shape.
  6. The Cajun, on the open market would probably go for around $4-5k depending on condition and what's on it (electronics wise). As long as the boat is in good condition and the motor checks out I'd say the ATV + $500 was less than what it's worth. Not enough details though.
  7. Here's a slightly larger fish caught while scuba fishing.
  8. I owned one of those old cathedral hull stick steer boats. It's nice to reminisce but there's just no comparison if you're going to run many of the larger lakes in rough conditions. Those boats were the best that the designers could think of back then given the basic knowledge of boat hull construction, how the boat needed to be used (bass fishing), along with what was available in outboard motors.
  9. I got all mine from 5BL. You can cram the rod box full, reach for a rod at the bottom of the pile and pull it right out. Excellent idea.
  10. That para-sail harness they've got you in seems like overkill to me.
  11. From your experience, is there enough light around the docks at night to fish without the help of flourescent line and a blacklight? I personally have never had the need for blacklights at night but I've heard a lot of talk lately about how good that set up is at night. I remember one new moon night fishing 10" worms. Totally dark. I was fishing one of my good docks. I zinged the cast out. Let it sit and then slowly worked the worm back. I must have worked that worm back for about 3 or 4 minutes, slowly creeping it along and then I hear "Ker-Plunk"! I had cast the worm completely over the dock, worked the thing up the back side and over the roof until it fell into the water. ;D Generally, there is enough lite off the docks and or houses on shore to not need a black lite. I have one but rarely use it. The bugs those things attract negates any advantages IMO.
  12. I also heard from dink that the fishing at coffeen has really tailed off the past year or so. That lake gets an incredible amount of pressure, especially over the winter months. It's finally taken the toll apparently.
  13. It's usually best to quarter a wave though you sometimes don't have that option. His problem, besides being a complete idiot who obviously had no idea what he was doing, was too high a bow attitude, too little wetted hull surface in the water, followed up by what looks like driving into a wind which eventually lifted the hull completely up and nearly created a blow over situation. Running up on pad like that he had nearly zero control over that boat, the thing was already a pretty skatey deal anyway. Did you see that thing chining in the earlier shot and him sawing on the wheel? : You're right in trimming down. Trim down, attempt a quartering entry into the wave, reduce speed depending on wake size and be prepared.
  14. Uhh.... if you read the comments, around page 2 a couple people involved in that video state it's a..... uh......... LEgend. Yup I see that now. Totally different boat than the new ones though. I believe that was the Viper/Cobra/Hawk/Legend hull that John Storey had designed after he left Champion. That hull, which was the same with all those boats I just listed was a modified Ranger 481V that he had modified.

  16. That's technically the old Zell Rowland topwater special rod. I've got 2 of those, one in an old Titanium series and another platinum that I use for jerk bait fishing.
  17. Today is the first day I've noticed a problem. Either very slow load times or I get a "can't find the server" error.
  18. When the fish start bedding behind the docks it can be a good thing or bad. If they'd bed up only behind the new docks with nice, clean, smooth cables things would be alright.... They don't, they love to bed behind those old docks with brush and gnarly old cables that have razor sharp edges on them that will slice apart just about any line I've ever tried. Good to see you've started to learn the docks. They relate to those a lot down there year round.
  19. It's sad that it's come to the government intruding into how much "outflow" I can discharge from myself into my toilet in order to match it's flushing capacity. This forces America to break his or hers typical discharge into smaller bits which ultimately means more time spent on the pot. Seems very counterproductive.
  20. Yikes. Graphic illustration right at the end of a boat bow hooking. RW and I were crossing KY lake the last morning of the road trip. There was a tailing SW wind blowing some decent 2' or so rollers in the main lake. Not a big deal usually but after I came off one roller the bow came down onto the next and bit. I suddenly felt the rear end of the boat go light, I was able to tweak the wheel right to make the correction but it did kind of throw us in the boat. Had I been going faster it would've been an incident. I'm not sure Kent realized what had just happened. A mans got to not only know his limitations but the limitations of his equipment and respect that. Or wind up banged up like that guy and looking very stoopid or worse.
  21. IIRC, that was some guy staying at Kenlake that was on the parking lot one day with a cooler full of slabs. I don't believe he was part of our group.
  22. yep. Even changing the ping speed only works momentarily. Eventually the two units will sync up and in some cases, cause both to lock up. At the very least you get annoying interference lines on the screen.
  23. I would think a card reader with SD availability is all that's needed. If you have a usb flash drive you can probably download the program, transfer it to the flash drive and then you'll need to find someone with a card reader to transfer from your flash drive to a blank SD card. Normally those firmware upgrades are self initializing. Stick the SD card in the Lowrance, the unit detects it and then reads the info to start the firmware upgrade.
