  1. They are called bobber stops. Bass pro has them just ask around.
  2. Full time student, part time collegiate angler.
  3. I feel that a 7.1 ratio is a lot more versitile than a 5.4 ratio. Though I have done everything on my 5.4 ratio reel. The 7:1 are a lot faster and they allow you to pick up line quickly.
  4. Abu Garcia Premier or a Shimano Core.
  5. Nope. We get 0 funding from our university. Some schools have $1,000 scholarships which is practically nothing. We are recognized as an RSO (registered student organization) but not a team. We do get money sometimes for travel expenses because we are an RSO but those funds can be received by any RSO on campus ( we have hundreds). Also a committee decides how much we get after we apply. Some schools do treat it like a full fledged sport though. I wish my school did because we represent them across the country, but that is not my decision.
  6. Find sponsors for your club rather than you yourself. Companies will sponsor hs clubs before they sponsor a young kid. I only know of one angler that is "sponsored" by a few small bait companies and he is only 17.
  7. College angler here, sponsors work on a team basis generally. Most companies sponsor the teams rather than individuals. The guys that are really good have their own sponsors and fish against other pro anglers and not just collegiate athletes. Keep in mind your stud high school angler in many cases is your average college angler. Some of the best guys in high school do not even compare to most college anglers.
  8. You can do what you want with a punch skirt. It just dresses up a punch rig and gives it more flare for the bottom. Different jig heads act differently on the bottom. A punch rig might tip over more than your standard jig head. You also get a different style of presentation for different scenarios. Most guys I know will punch into a junk then let it fall, twitch it once or twice then that is it. With a jig they may go a lot slower. Also you can skip a flat jig better than a punch rig.
  9. She really is not something special. Besides getting the pole she has not made much of an impact in nascar.
  10. Devote a microwave to melting plastics.
  11. Well the 66 m should go with the 5.4.1 and 10-12lb test fluorocarbon for cranking. 60 m x fast 10-12lb mono with 5.8.1 for topwaters(zaraspooks) 70 m fast 6.2.1 jerkbaits to spinnerbaits etc 10-12lb fluorocarbon.
  12. Middle of winter the only crank bait you should be throwing is either a shad rap ( silver baitfish type color) or a jerkbait.
  13. I break open sharpie clickable markers and use them. I do not know the size of the o ring just ebay o ring for 5in senko and you should find a bunch for really cheap.
  14. Yes it will work. They allow you to use codes on sale items. Plug it in and test it.
  15. Try and start your high school team before you try and start a full pledged club. I am not sure how fishing is in Massachusetts but in IL it is getting pretty big for high school kids.
  16. Not trying to be a dick but you really are ignorant to how much fishing has blown up in the past few years. Kids used to want to grow up and be astronauts but now I am meeting kids that want to fish professionally . I met a 5th grader that knows more about fishing than most people my age (20). I also met an 8th grader that is looking to get onto not only his high school's team but also a college team down the road. These are just two examples of the dozens of kids from grammar school to high school that I meant in one day at a fishing show. On top of that I meant dozens of kids at a fishing show a month prior that are extremely into the sport. I do not know about you but when I was in 5th grade I was not able to explain the intricacies of using tungsten over lead in a drop shot. Hell in 5th grade I wasn't even throwing a drop shot. I know adults complain about kids being attached to tvs and cell phones but honestly that does not apply to my younger brother and his 50 + friends and the neighborhood kids. They are out side playing and doing everything I did when I younger except their cell phones are way more advanced. Sorry this was a huge rant lol The only people that support bans like this also support gun bans and things of similar nature. Anything to protect our fragile children.
  17. When I bought the floor mats for my car they came with 2 smaller mats. I use those two small mats in my car so the trebles do not bite into the backs of my seats. You can also use rod gloves and lure wraps found at vrxfishing . com . It may be a challenge to keep the car mats on your front deck but I would suggest putting velcro on the bottom of the mat so it sticks to the boat carpet. Just a thought.
  18. Change the hooks out and make sure it runs true. If it runs to the left or right check out a video on "tuning crank baits" , be careful though the older baits break easily. This bait is really productive in creeks for small mouth. Find a nice clear water creek with about a foot to 3 feet with weeds and throw it down stream. Pull it through the weeds and it will get smacked every time. Goodluck .
  19. True. I have a boat load of free gear that I am trying to get rid of simply because it is dated. Granted it is a lot of fly fishing gear it does not compare to modern gear. I still use a 7 year old abu spinning reel but it is my backups backup lol
  20. You want to look at a 7ft mh rod. I do not use spinning reels for spinnerbaits but you can do it if you use a 7ft mh rod. Popular rods are the abu garcia veritas. I like fenwick hmgs and anything st croix.
  21. They list all of the parts and schematics on their website. Not sure if that helps or if you need to exact piece in front of you.
  22. My experience with old reels is that if they were not properly maintained they are more trouble than they are worth. Clean it up and keep it as a display piece then buy yourself a good new reel.
  23. I will seriously buy the fat r in the bottom left of picture one. My favorite rapala bait of all time. I still use mine to this day, just changed the hooks on it.
  24. $20 on ebay. Does not seem to be worth much.
  25. Some fish will swim back to where they were caught the same day they are released. Some tend to take up shop in the area they are released. Your best bet is to find common spots that they are released and check them out.
