The replies from you guys is great appreciated. Last night I stripped my spool back some to get some Power Pro or what I can find at the tackle shop. I have some 20 but that's too light. Will go with the 40. Rod is a MH and should handle it fine. I'll ditch the idea of the mono leader. As mentioned I'm not up to any speed with frog fishing. Just associated it to topwater fishing a hard bait. Here's my take on frog fishing. Out east here I'm getting a lot of rain now. I'm a river rat for the most part. These rains have been keeping me off the river. Forcing me to switch gears. Been fishing one of the two lakes as of lately. Catching fish but nothing to post about yet on here. I know the river situation will eventually straighten out but I'm not gonna set around and wait. I have a boat and like to use it. I kills me to see it set in the driveway during the winter with snow on my cover. Lake fishing it will be for now. Well to the frogs. The lakes have their share of grass, pads and forms of bulrushes. I have to have frogs at my finger tips if I find myself fishing these lakes more than normal. I'm catching juvenile bass in these lily pads now on worms and slider grubs. I just feel this frog fishing is going to be necessary soon when nicer bass make it their home for the summer. These lily pads have booco bluegills in there now. Bigger bass have to want to be in there at some time or another. I have to give this grass an honest effort. I believe that Mr. Big will be in there. I'll go in there in stealth mode. I believe he can be gotten in that stuff at 5:00 in the am. on a frog. Thanks again for all the help.

Guy just looking for your thought or experience on this. As the title says I'm no Frog man. Clearly a technique that I've overlooked and really have never incorporated into a lifetime of my bass fishing. I have no intention to be the next Ish Monroe just give my bass fishing one more angle of approach. My current baitcaster setups are more geared toward Crank baits. To layout serious cash for a frogging setup would be nice but I can't right now. Got a wedding and a fishing trip coming up. More interested in picking up some frogs and getting back into a few of these areas. 90% of my time I'm on the river. I have not dedicated the time and effort on this type of structure river or lake other than weightless worm approach which has yealded some fish. I have a MH 7' Fast 1 pc. spinning setup that does not get used a lot of use and was thinking about respooling with a 40 lb. braid and mono leader and give some 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 oz. frogs a shot. I realize you frog guys are doing this with a casting setup. Just looking for opinions as to whether my current approach might be do-able. Will try what you suggest. Rod Saver, Attwood, BPS and Cabela's all have good stuff but Home Depot and Lowe has stuff to meet your needs. Transom tie downs are important. You should inspect these things regularly. I know I'm dragging a nice boat around so I can't let $25.00 of straps cause an issue. I dont have the ratchet type. I don't want that style. Feel better about the conventional flip lock.

I was a fiberglass owner for years. Weight and being a bit overkill, I switched to aluminum. I'm on my second Tracker and love it. My first was a Pro Team 175. I've had my Pro Team 190 for about 5 years. I love it. Welded hull, I can't say that I've ever had issues. Can only say Im more than satisfied with mine. If I had bought a Lowe or Lund I'm sure I'd be saying the same thing. I strongly believe if I had young kids or wife that was a boating regular I would not want a pro bass style craft. There are many deeper V's out there that will serve you better and would be great for bass fishing also. But if they are only going to go out once and awhile get a style you want. Just my thought.

I've been through this somewhat. I always have a few plugs laying in my splash well. I'm not a big fan of the "T" type either. I prefer the Stainless Flip Type. Flip up non't flip down. Flip it down grass or branch could catch it.

Not sure if this has happened to you or not over the years but I'd have similar situations happen and wonder how I didn't hook up on that worm hook or crank the way he was on. I'd lay off figuring he wouldn't bite again right away. Get the heck out of that hole and stay away from there for a few day while hoping no one else stumbles across that. Get back in there a few days later and fish the exact thing the exact same way and nail him that time. I love it when I can pull that off. I have no way of knowing it was the exact same fish but chances are he is or at least I'd like to think so. Go back and get him. Good luck I hope you get him.

The reel, the rod and lure weight sort of all play into it. I would concern myself with a good cast and proper match more than the snag that you may never encounter.

Did you get a chance to see the fish?

St. Croix Avids. While I do like my Mojo and Premier Series rods the 2 Avid rods I own are my best rods. Drop shoting and split shoting use.

I have this bait in with my spinnerbaits and don't know the correct name but it is produced by Blue Fox that is an inline spinner with a blade, shad shaped body, with an undressed single treble hook on the rear. They can be bought with various body patterns. Silver, gold, rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout.

"Rooster Tails" - "Mepps Anglia #3's" - "Blue Fox Dressed Spinners" Probably what I'd have tied on to a first time to a stream I don't know much about and suspect bass are there.

I was all amped up to buy a Bass X Series Rod. Was looking at the BXC72MHM casting Rod for cranking deeper cb's and the BXS71MF for some soft plastics. I never pulled the trigger on it, and I could be wrong on this but I think they are a guide short vs the Mojo's. Something told me not to do it at the time. I'll see where and what the opinion are on the Bass X rods are in a to year. I really don't need another Rod. Just a St. Croix addiction.

I sense that a lot of you guys can buy some decent stuff on a local scale. In all honesty the Dick's and Wally Worlds in my area are not that great. Years ago I had some great local sources. Dicks seems to be handling a bunch of off the wall branded items. Wally, they had a bunch of clearence stuff at late winter which was great to some degree because I have two grandsons that I'm trying to make fishing a part of their life. I have a mom and pop that's a stones throw away but it just comes up short. It works out great for trout fishing and keeping the kids hooked up with the right stuff but that's about all. TW is my mail order place that has never let me down. And my road trips to Susquehanna Tackle have always been worth it. All in all I'm not hurting or wanting for anything.

I'm pretty much a St.Croix guy. I have both generations and like them both. The sc3 is a bit lighter. But I would not say night and day difference in them. I only fish soft plastics with the x-fast, is not the feel I want with crankbaits. That's just me. To each his own. I think you will like the ML and Med. for your soft bait fishing. At least Mojos don't break the bank. I do like my Avid rods more. And I'd never get rid of my Premier Rods that I have when I first getting into St. Croix stuff. Balance it with the right reel and I think you'll like it.

Should have a file or two in the boat at all times. I'm always touching a hook up. Especially rubber worm fishing.

I guess you can make this part of fishing so scientifically nasa level of fishing but to me it's pretty straight forward. To me it's depth range, how much action, natural colors close to food source or what might be preyed on and colors on the other side of the spectrum that may trigger a strike. I've heard them called "idiot baits" I hate to use that terminology but it is what it is I guess. Call me an idiot than cause I throw slot of them.

BPS always has their house brand or the XPS on sale.

Maybe pick up a Rapala Countdown or Husky Jerk. My thoughts would be to pick up a few or couple of lures before you go out each week and fish them hard. Pick up stuff that you are interested. Before you know it or by the end of the season you'll have a pretty impressive amount of stuff. There is plenty of lure info on here. Colors are a whole different ballgame that may not mean that much.

The Loomis shirts run big. I really wear a 2xl. Like to buy my stuff way too big so I tried on the 3xl. It was really big, could not be worn like that. Tried on the 2xl, was still large. The xl version fit true and was no way tight or binding. Went with the 2xl because I'm anal. The material won't shrink.

I live and die for river smallies. Nice fish. Looks like a great day. I've been getting into dinks and runts. I struggle with the spawn. Not worried or sweating it. I'll be into some nice ones. Been throwing cranks and jerkbaits, can't pull myself away from them yet. Nice fish Mike.

If the pros have a problem with one of theirs the rep probably hands them two new ones. I don't have that luxury. I'm out and paying for KVDs stuff. Hey, they put out good stuff. I had a couple of higher end spinning reels I developed problems with and was not satisfied how the handled my problems. But I could be one in very few guys. Got the red a$$ and never again.

75% spinning / 25% casting but I have times out where I never pick up a spinning rod and vice-versa a casting rod.
