Over the winter I’ll look for a somewhat light rig version. I know they exist. Saw them at some shows. If I was a young buck again 30 years old I’d throw it all day long. No sense wishing for that. Those days are long gone. The reason for going for one on the lighter side. My thought for this use is on the river. Fish right along lay downs and along docks.

Yes sir. I have two grandsons that are with me quite a bit. That live well has only been used for what it was intended to do. Stowing other means is no hard to do nor does it take up space.

I fish an “Ike” Spinning Rod version. It is China but I do love the rod.

Get a Shimano Nasci.

I have other means on board. No one is wizzing, dumping, puking or spitting in my likewell. I’m not playing that. Sorry. But it does sound funny being it happened to someone else.

Big monster worm - 8” or longer. Just started messing with it some during the dog days this past season. But have not wrote it off yet. Need to fish it harder and smarter. I have a fear of using it more than the fish fear seeing it I guess. Maybe I just don’t associate it to bass up here in the northern part of the country. Silver Buddy type lure. Really could care less about it. But have caught trout on it. To me it’s a trout lure. Back years ago I struck out with the Dances Eel. Should of worked but it didn’t. Fished it hard. I would like to try some sort of Alabama Rig. Maybe a smaller version. Would be neat to catch one like that or two or three at once. I really don’t know anything about fishing like that.

Keep doing what you are doing. That pause was the ticket. Not sure what kind of bait you were using (here nor there) but in my mind I can see that bass crushing that bait on the stopped slow rise pause. Bait most likely had a rising flutter to it and the bass couldn’t resist it. Years ago I heard crankbaits refered to as idiot baits. I guess I’m an idiot, and I like being an idiot.

That is good to know. Than I’m clearly not fishing hard enough around them.

Have them in some northern lakes I fish here. Never seen one in the rivers though. In all honesty I’ve never caught a decent bass in and around them. Some dinks and runts over the years.

I take it overseas or out of the country now? It’s the odd ball of my rods. Only have the one. Decent rod an I got it new on clearance back a few years ago. Should have bought two of them.

I have one Falcon Rod and love it. I agree on how it fishes. It’s a medium but fishes like a med. lite. I’m good with that. I just don’t have good access to Falcon Rods. I can’t see or touch anything. Tough for me to buy a rod untouched or seen. I like that American Flag ?? on the handle blank. Don’t see much of that anymore.

Great post. Love river smallies. Spot on responses and if I can add one more that almost all of us cut our teeth on. 3" grubs. Mr. T, PowerGrubs, Kailens and Zoom Fat Alberts all smallie catchers.

Maybe you could mount both the 1000 and 2500 series and see which one feels the best and balances the best. That will most likely be the answer.

In the Eyecon Series they have a Med. Moderate that is a cranking rod. Might be slightly above your set point but not by a lot. If you don’t have to rush to buy it. Take your time and see and feel as many as possible. Mount your reel in it.

Spankey - I really don’t think I need to elaborate.

I fish a couple of St. Croix Premier Crankbait Rods. Have always been very satisfied. Been fishing a couple of Abu Garcia Cranking Sticks and been real satisfied with them also. I would not put them in break the bank price. Hopefully you can get to touch them first. Get the feel you are looking for. Your lure weights will be important factor.

It will be back around before you know it. I’d like to catch a few shows this winter but they might not happen. Last February I was suppose to go to one but I got pretty sick (not CORONA). I have a lot I want to work on at home this winter. Shoot some trap and sporting clays also. 19 has slowed my shooting down some also.

It’s all good man. Nothing wrong with keeping your stuff looking good and performing the way you want it to. Might seem like a trivial thing but it all comes together. It wasn’t all that long ago that I’d be on here saying that there is no way on gods green earth that I’m fishing with a white fishing rod. That statement holds no water because I’m fishing the heck out of a couple of them now. Maybe add another on before spring. Hope it works out great for you.

Another Shimano you might want to look at is the Nexave. We got one of these for my younger grandson and it has been working out great. Some reels were tough to find this summer. Sahara’s and Nascis. You’ll find that on sale. Reg. $49.99 but they sell for less. Reviews are good. Tackle shop lady told me if there were issues bring it back. He had a summer of fishing without issues.

State had ramps and parks shutdown in my area. But really only effected early season. I don’t think we will be under the same situation this coming season. That’s my hopes.

I just know my results were great. I’m down to just a few. Don’t know what I’m setting on them for. Should just use them up.

I recently saw a craw that the manufacturer is calling “Natural Craw”. I feel real good about it. Not sure how well their plastics hold up. Real close to others brands. Falls in line with others. Do like the color and it is not a life like type. Real image baits turn me off and I don’t do well with hard baits that depict a picture image to them. I’ll find it local or order it. Hate to mention mfg. because it will become a crap show that I could care less about. “G” is all I’ll say. I’m too old to get hyped up about a lot of that stuff. Too set in my way of thinking. I just feel good about the color and size.

I get out. For a working guy can’t complain too much. But hope I live long enough to retire in a couple/few years. I just want to be able to go like 3 or 4 mornings in a row. Starting in the dark and fish while the sun is coming up. That is my favorite time slot to fish. I like the early morning darkness.

When the old Guido’s Bug fell off the face of earth I was shattered. That was one of my confidence baits. In a few killer patterns. I caught many river smallies on them. Than I had to dabble a bit and try a few different brands. It played head games with me for a long time. Got to the point I wasn’t using a craw for a while. But than I got bit by the Rage Craw bug. That has worked out. I’m back to fishing them more. I come to like the Z Man Craws also. Hard to find them local. Rage Craw is a tough find also on a local scale. Never had a local guy order any in for me. I generally don’t get too specific with a couple of local shops. Tubes are a great bait. Being the river rat I am that is one of my first plastics I fished real hard. Case Plastics. Great post you don’t hear about tubes a lot anymore. That’s a good thing I guess. But I think you are correct, it is a simple crawdad. That’s what I miss about the Guido Bugs. They didn’t have a lot of realistic detail other than size being accurate.
