Abu Garcia Veritas Casting Rod For Top Water ?
I want to touch that new version first before buying. If I can’t find it local, I’ll order a couple in and keep the one I like. Most likely the 7’ Winch Spin. I throw a lot of small crankbaits and I found that Veritas Winch Rod Style to fit my fishing well. I believe it is called a PLX or whatever. I’ve been a St. Croix Fanboy for many many years but the last 4-5 years I’ve opened myself up to a couple of different brands. SC are my soft plastic rods but have come to like Abu and Dobins for some cranking. And their rod prices don’t break the bank. Good luck on your choice. I would never tell anyone not to consider the reviews they read. Their might be something to it. But I throw all that out the window and make my own conscious decision. If I don’t like it I’ll go get my money back. But on a positive note I believe I did read in Bassmaster Abu has a 3 yr. warranty on that new Veritas. Can’t beat that on a rod that is really not all that expensive in the full scheme of things. Good fishing.

What are you asking from Tackle Claus this year?
Didn’t really put much of the word out for anything. I’d generally jump all over the TW Black Friday Event. The handful of items I want are not in stock w/ no back order. I’m not sweating that because I’ll have that stuff by March 31st one way or another. Did put the word out on some TW Gift Cards. Told people about the discount on them. Have to wait and see. I’ll survive with or without. You guys enjoy your new toys and have a good holiday.

Craws
I really only fish 3” & 3 1/4” type craws. Only a couple brands. I’m able to use them on jig trailers, jig heads, t-rig and mojo rig them.

Abu Garcia Veritas Casting Rod For Top Water ?
I fish with a casting and a spinning version of the Abu Winch. I fish 8# Sunline on both of them. I fish nothing but crankbaits on them. 110% satisfied with my rods. I threw the reviews I read out the window and went with my gut feeling after handled it. After a few months I bought the spinning version sight and touched unseen. Something I normally would not do. Again I went with a gut feeling it would work out and was glad I bought it.

2021 Richmond Fishing Expo
I believe the huge Pensy Expo has been cancelled for February. Granted not the same show but the same scenario.

New to bass fishing
Welcome. Great place here. Hope you learn what you need to get started. Maybe we can pick your brain about catties.

kvd
I don’t know him but he seems to be a pretty straight shooter. I’d like to fish with the guy. He seem to be for real. He has been really successful on the MLF tour winning by huge margins. But he has had times where he tanked it up real bad in comparison to others. The guy has done it all. And in his line of work jumping around sponsorship is probably common. When he won out in Pittsburg 3 Rivers I would have loved to been fishing with him on that.

Having trouble making the switch to bass
It’s not uncommon for a bass to give a big or light hit to a bait. You just think it’s a bite. And he’s gone or not there. But that bass is laying there on the bottom with that worm in his mouth. That were taking up on slack line and feeling that slight resistance is important prior to forcefully setting the hook. Most of the time it’s just snapping the rod straight up or a sweep. That might be hook style dependent. I use a straight shank worm hook for the most part and upward is my way of generally doing it.

Having trouble making the switch to bass
I didn’t read this whole thread yet but you may be use to fishing with more of a slack line vs. tight line. You know what I’m trying to imply? Something you’ll learn to do.

The latest sale thread
It’s not like me to want to be all about their sale but I laid off for awhile. Mostly because a few things I wanted were “no back order” I’m ok with that I can wait. Didn’t want to get hung up impulse buying vs. what I truly want. I’m pretty sure I have a few gift cards coming my way. I’m always helping people out one way or another and I never take any money for it. Recently put the word out that I’d take a TW gift certificate instead. I have a bit of a short list but colors and patterns I wanted as duplicates and spares they are out of now. They don’t have a reel that I want since long before this sale. All is good. You guys enjoy your new toys, I’ll have what I want/need by March 31st.

Hindsight - Would you have done anything differently this season?
Don’t get stressed out over it. I know I’m no pro and only have the answers for so much. But I just give it heck. I take the good with the bad. I sort of just do the “Ike” thing and “never give up”. My season is done for the year now. I lost a fish this season that haunts me weekly, daily, monthly. I’m at a point that that fish has me obsessed. I can’t shake it. That is what I’m out to catch when I’m out now. Nothing else will satisfy me. I believe it was 7 pounds roughly. It would have broken my personal best. Would have been a very very respectable fish for Pennsylvania. I will pick up again where I left off. And I know what I’m after. That loss of that fish has kept me more focused for sure.

Prime months for big bass
For me October. That’s when I expect it to come. My biggest bass this season was Sunday September 13th.

Medium light for smallmouth?
Being a St. Croix fan boy I’ve been fishing a medium moderate 6’6” and a 7’ Premiere Crankbait Rods for a long time. These were great sticks and they didn’t break the bank. They don’t offer them anymore. Shame they dropped them. I’m able to throw 1/4 oz. Shad Raps without issues. Call me crazy but I need using an Abu Garcia casting and a spinning version of the Veritas “Winch” and I’m 110%+ Satisfied with those rods. Moderate is moderate on their rods. I don’t care what the reviews are on their stuff. They are ok by me. Sorry if this was way off topic but it ties into Smallies on my end. Good fishing.

I fish that reel. You’ll like it. Fish it on one of their rods also. My be one of my favorite setups. It’s setup for cranking, the only way I use it. Your price should be good. I have a feeling there is a redesign or something new coming along.

Medium light for smallmouth?
Cranking for those Smallies I’ve gotten to the point to fishing with a moderate reaction. Only way I prefer these days. The biggest darn problem is finding a rod, casting or spinning with a moderate action. Med. and ML Almost everything out there is fast or x-fast. I’ve found a few over the years that are working great. Even 1/4 oz. CBs on casting setup. Everyone has their own preference but I feel I lost a lot of smallies years prior to fishing with a faster action. I feel the same with fishing spinnerbaits also, needing more of a moderate tip.

Medium light for smallmouth?
This is common in the river I fish. You could catch a smallie out of the top of a lay down and as you fish it inward pull a largemouth out of it. On the same lure. I’ve caught a lot of largemouths on the river over the years. But in all honesty none was ever a real brute. But some respectable largemouths. PBs on it were smallmouths. Those fish towered over the largemouths. Primarily ML fast or x-fast w/ 6 lb. test, soft plastics.

LMB without the black stripe?
Up north here pretty common with both greenies and brown fish. I notice it more in spring. Habitat I guess. Back a few years ago I livewell tanked some Smallies that were real nice fish and I wanted to take some pic of. Called the wife to bring camera and have her meet me at the river near where I was fishing. All 5 of those fish took on a completely different color pattern. I believe from the tank being dark and possible aggressive mode of 5 large Smallies in that tank. After pics I released them back into the holes I took them from. Fish were in great shape, seemed as healthy if not healthier than when I caught them. Went on to catch 4 or 5 more before I quit that day. It was my best Smallie day to this day.

The latest sale thread
I don’t work for TW but I’m willing to bet you’ll be fine also. Were you able to see your history in the past? They will be there today. Call them. Tell them you didn’t get an email confirmation. They will hook you up. I’ve had past orders where I messed up my email address and didn’t get a confirmation but went into my history and it was there.

Been bass fishing 3 years. Not a single bass. Looking for some help from northwest indiana
OP This is great advise. This works on lakes/river where you know the bass exist and have lock jaw.

Pulled the plug, 2020 Bass season done.
I’m sort of in your boat. I don’t think next season we will start off with restrictions. It doesn’t look like weather is going to get brutal soon but I have things to get done at home before winter sets in, we have picked up at work some also till the end of the year. At this time of year I just find it real discouraging when I plan and get myself all hyped up to do a Saturday or Sunday and the weather doesn’t cooperate. I really thought about bumping my end date up until Thanksgiving Day. Day off why not. Gonna start raining tonight and all day tomorrow. Not the way I want to end it.

Cheap vs expensive lures
Pretty good way of looking at it.

Shimano spinning reels
What’s nice about the 2500 series of the Shimanos is the ratio reduction vs. the 3000. Yes they are the same size and weight but the lower ratio is nice. I guess it all depends how you are using it.

Hindsight - Would you have done anything differently this season?
I love the tuxedo cats. Wish you the best. Hopefully you can find another just like her. My oldest she has two tuxedos. Both real social.

Scent additives.... Waste of money or worth it??
Way back when I thought bass would have found the garlic to be extremely offensive. I truly thought this was not gonna workout but I had to try it. In my area the river smallies seem to like it. I only use it on soft plastics. Never really gave it any thought to apply to hard baits. I would never try to sell anyone on it. To each his own.
