  1. Thanks. By backing you mean, either mono or fluorocarbon correct.
  2. OK, I had a Quantum Smoke speed freak on a Tatula heavy froggin rod. Twice the drag stopped working. I mean I had no drag at all on the reel. I thought it was the reel, however I put a Lew's Super Duty on the rod, and the same thing happened today. Bass hits, try to set the hook, and no drag. Anyone have any insights as to what could be the issue? As a side note, I had the Lew's on another rod and never had a problem. Thanks for the help.
  3. May want to look at the iRod Gen 2. They have a 7'2" swimjig/balded jig model that would work real well for a light swimbait set up. The model number is 723c, and it costs $150.
  4. The fishing on Singletary was tough yesterday. I managed four keepers, and 3 non-keepers. Nothing real big, all 12-14 inch fish. The guy I was fishing with caught 4.25lb bass, and another guy caught one about 4.5. Soft plastic craws in GP were the best bet.
  5. I'm fishing Singletary tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes.
  6. I use a 6.8:1, that is 28 IPT. I feel I am better able to control the speed of retrieve with this speed reel.
  7. I have both, and the avid is a much better rod. Completely worth the extra money
  8. I just got a 130 the other day,and my hooks do not look beefy,at all. I am planning on upgrading, but still figuring out which to get. For a lure with that price tag you would think they put have better hooks.
  9. Thanks. I will take a look at those hooks. The ones that came with it look weak.
  10. A 130 perch was delivered yesterday, and I will be taking it out for the first time Sunday. I will let everyone know how it goes.
  11. I have a whopper plopper 130 on its way. I have read where a hook upgrade is needed. Did anyone find it necessary to upgrade the hooks on their whopper plopper? If so, what hooks did you use? Thanks for the help.
  12. Diawa Tatula 7'4" Heavy froggin rod is 169, and a very nice rod.
  13. Since you guys are talking about the whopper plopper, what size and color do you find most effective in this area?
  14. I have pulled a few bass out of lily pads with it, without any problems.
  15. x2. I own this rod and use it for both swim, and vibrating jigs. It is a great rod for these applications. You will love it.
  16. I use a 7'4" Tatula heavy froggin rod, paired with a Quantum Smoke speed freak (8.1:1). I use 65lb power pro.
  17. Thanks for the help. I am going to go with the Pro G.
  18. Thanks Keith, that will definitely help. I am restricted to the West side of the lake, so it looks like the pads are my best bet. Also, thanks for the map dogbone.
  19. I am trying to decide between a BB-1 pro series speed spool, and a Tournament Pro G. They are the same price, so that is not an issue. My plan is to pair it with an iRod Gen 2 rod, and throw swim jigs with it. Does anyone recommend one of these reels over the other for this application? Thanks for the help.
  20. I have a tournament coming up at West Monoponsett in a few weeks. I have never fished there before, and will not be able to get there prior to the tournament. Any info about the lake would be great. I appreciate the help.

I generally fish a bluegill pattern, as well. However, I have been trying a sexy shad colored swim jig lately. The confidence level with the bluegill is high, which makes it tough to get away from.
  22. Most reels give the amount of line they can carry using 12lbs test as the standard. Does anyone have a way to convert that number when using different line sizes? For instance, 120 yards of 12 lb test = how much 15,17, or other lb test? Thanks for the help.
