If I don't get a bite with a couple pitches to the same spot do I move a few inches? A foot? A few feet? It doesn't matter. What matters is that you keep the bait in the water by anything that looks out of the ordinary, be it changes in the grass, a drop off, a tree, bush, stickup, dock, pier, rocks and anything that could hold a bass. You will make a short pitch followed by a long pitch and then everything in between. That is the fun of pitching and flipping. You keep on until you get a bite. On rivers with current, let the current take the boat down the bank and use your trolling motor to avoid overhanging trees and hitting the shoreline. Keep an eye out for anything out of the ordinary. And then, pitch and flip to anything in the ordinary!!!! This is bass fishing and there are no rules.

When I rubbed it, a Genie appeared and offered me two wishes. My first wish was that if I ever had to pay for anything, I would just put my hand in my pocket and the right amount of money would always be there.” "That's brilliant!" says the waitress. "Most people would ask for a million dollars or something, but you'll always be as rich as you want for as long as you live!” "That's right. Whether it's a gallon of milk or a Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there," says the man. The waitress asks, "What's with the ostrich?” The man sighs, pauses and answers, "My second wish was for a tall chick with a big behind and long legs who agrees with everything I say."

Flipping and Pitching plastics

Are you using MegaStrike or JJ's Magic, etc. on your baits, especially the plastics? The bass will avoid your baits if they are "different" in any way than what they are used to eating and will spit out your bait before you even know they have hit it if there is any "different" taste or feel. So go back to your wacky rigged Senkos smeared with the scent of your choice and let us know if that makes a difference. And by the way, scale down the size of your baits, too.

What lures/coloration/techniques would you use for morning fishing this pond? Reply: Start with topwaters, like a buzzbait, Whooper Plooper, poppers, frogs and toads and wake baits. After that bite goes away, try your spinnerbaits, crankbaits, Chatterbaits. After that go with your Senkos and trick worms plus a drop shot. You can also try the Mojo and Carolina rigs. Hit everything you can see and be patient. Post pics of your catches.

And by the way, the LSU alumni chapter is strong in Richmond and they have a crawfish boil in May and a Turkey Fry in November plus a gumbo party in February. Remember to yell "Geaux Tigers" when you set the hook.

JR, welcome to the Forum. Great having you with us. Now, some facts of Richmond Fishing Life from a NOLA native living in Richmond: 1. Get a copy of the free 2017 Fishing in Virginia booklet. It is free and you can get a copy at Bass Pro Shops and maybe Dick's or Cabela's. 2. If you are serious about learning where to fish and various techniques may I suggest you join the Richmond Bassmasters next year. They meet the 4th Wednesday at Debby's Kitchen (no meeting this month) starting at 7 PM. You will learn where to launch your boat; how the guys approach different lakes and rivers; and meet the movers and shakers in the Virginia bass industry. 3. When you get your Fishing in Virginia booklet look at the various places to fish. Give each a try. 4. The Historic James River is very dangerous in the rocks. If you do fish the Pony Pasture please go with a buddy and wear your life vest all the time. 5. Talk to Mike and Conner at BPS for suggestions on tackle and baits. They are both tournament fishermen. 6. Talk to the guys at Green Top. They are also tournament guys. 7. P.S. Other than for Audubon Park lagoon and the City Park lakes, there are very few fresh water places to fish in NOLA.

Spinnerbaits, Rat-L-Traps over grass, light weighted plastics swum through and over the grass, drop shot, wake baits, topwaters like frogs and poppers, buzzbaits, Whooper Plooper, floating stick baits, toads, and your favorite plastic, unweighted on light line, pulled through the grass and a shaky head along the grass line plus a wacky Senko fished on top of the pads, through the grass and on the edges and the list goes on. Do you have any idea where the thermocline of the lake can be found? Fish above the thermocline. Now Levi, go out and hit those pads and grasses. Fish them on their edges and then throw into them with your Senkos, spinnerbaits, frogs, toads, unweighted trick worms, standard unweighted finesse worms, etc. Let us know how you do.

You can fish it as follows for starters: Drop Shot Texas Rigged with 1/4 to 3/8 ounce bulled weight Unweighted Carolina rigged with the hook in the lizard's side, not back Mojo rigged On a baitcaster On a spinning rig Cast way out Flip and Pitch in close Open lake water Rivers, creeks and coves Ned Rigged Small lizards on a Slider rig And the list goes on. The memory of my first tournament is that when it was over I had no idea where we were or how to get to the main highway to go home. I met my boater at 4 AM at a gas station and followed him to the ramp that morning. I had no idea of where we were going. After the weigh in, I asked one of the guys how to do I get to the main highway and he was nice enough to let me follow him from the ramp to the main artery. Now, I do a recon of every ramp we use during the week and have never had a problem since. As for what I caught? I don't remember. No idea what so ever.
