Went around in circles all day long throwing at the same targets with various baits and techniques.

Well guys, I threw myself on the sword and did an experiment yesterday in a 9-acre pond for members of this Forum and for mother and country. I forced myself to fish for 12-hours throwing all types of baits and presentations out of an old Tracker with a 45 pound trolling motor. And yes, I know you feel my pain because I ache all over today. So what were my results after forcing myself to spend 12-hours fishing on a beautiful day with a gentle breeze on a private pond? Five fish. Nothing spectacular. Four dinks and one around one and a half pounds. But what did I find out for you guys and gals? That all five were caught flipping and pitching a Zoom green pumpkin trick worm on a Provide 1/16 jig head on 8 pound fluorocarbon line on a medium heavy spinning rig. No other bites on any other baits or presentations. Yes, my sacrifice was worth it to help everyone on this site knowing what works best. Our club and Virginia state tournaments mandate the PFD be worn when the big motor is running. The guys strip off their PFD and run to the front of the boat to put down the trolling motor and start fishing. I keep my on at all times.

Totally agree. The book is out of publication and Dr. Jones told me he did not think he was going to have it reprinted and sold again. This book is a fantastic read so please do as NJ above suggests and try to find a copy at a reasonable price. You can go to Amazon and find it and negotiate with the seller for a paperback copy. Wow. A double hit which is really bad. Condolences to both families. As we grow old we take our parents position such as paying for our children's and grand kids' meals when we go out. Having them visit for Thanksgiving and Christmas as we, the parents, prepare the family dinners. Having the children call us once a week to see how we are doing. Things our parents did for us as we grew older. The baton has been passed to a new generation. It is the normal progression of life. It is not easy. Its is very difficult to say goodbye, especially during this virus situation. So you and your wife have moved up a rung on the ladder of life. That is all we can do after we morn for our lost parents.

Yes, here are some suggestions: 1. Google any topics you are interested in learning and read what you find from various pros. 2. Amazon Prime to find the Kevin VanDam books or Ike's biography, Fishing on the Edge , or Denny Brauer's book on flipping and pitching. 3. Check out Woo Daves Internet site and read his articles. Woo is a Classic winner and a classic person. 4. There are other very informative books out there and the guys will tell you about,e specially those that are about hunting large bass like Sowbelly which you can find on Amazon. 5. Uncle Homer Circle's books if you can find anything on him. He passed away but he was one of the guys who started studying the bass with Big Mouth and Big Mouth Forever. 6. Go to the pros various Internet sites and read what they pen with tips and information. Good luck and learn as much as you can during downtime.

Wow! River's Rest, formerly Helen's, was always a great spot to have a tournament blast off or just to launch your boat to hit the Chick. I guess the former owners let it deteriorate and that is why it was sold. My club would rather blast off at Morris Creek and head to the Historic James River and fish the cypress trees in the Upper Chipoakes creek or go 65 MPH to race to the dam. So I have not been to Rivers Rest in at least five years. If the Route 5 park is closed due to the county's new water pump program we would consider using Rivers Rest but now we may have to blast off at Roc-A-Hock if Rivers Rest is not in good condition. I have seen Ike catch a beautiful bass after two guys had fished in the same area ahead of him. In fact, the two guys in their bass boat who had just left the area stood there and watched Ike land the big bass. I caught a bass to the left of the Route 5 Chickahominy River's Riverfront Park's Gordon Creek ramp after another guy in my club fished it ahead of me. He could not believe he missed it. So when the bite stops are all of the bass gone? Maybe. Maybe not. I change my presentations or baits and give it another chance. If the changes do not produce bites then it is good bye and I go to another spot. Later in the day I will go back to the spot and give it a try again. I read a story about a tournament where the two guys in the boat, both pros, were fishing a lake. The boater was running around to all kind of spots while the non-boater sat in his seat and took naps and ate snacks. The non-boater had the boater agree that when the non-boater wanted to have his say in where they went he would get it and that was the agreement. So at 2 PM, with an hour left in the tournament, the non-boater told the boater where to go and stop. They sat there until 2:15 when the non-boater said here we go and he started to fish for the first time all day. He caught nice bass on every cast made and the so did the boater. They must have caught at least 15 to 20 keepers each during a 15 minute time span. Then the bite stopped and the non-boater said "OK,the boat is yours now." This story taught me that you have to be in the right place at the right time and you got to know the right time. The non-boater new that the bass would pass by this one spot every day and it was easy pickings. Unless you knew the exact place and exact time you would not enjoy catching them as they went by. So go back if the place is a good one. The bass will repopulate the area sooner or later. Go figure???

I had Motor Oil Red at least a year and a half before they finally showed up at local tackle shops and saw the mini-brush hogs before they were released to the market place.
