Tried this method this morning and the results: Try 1 Tied 8-pound Yo-Zuri Hybrid to braid using this knot on a 6'6" medium heavy spinning rod with a 2500 Sedona reel. Went into the field and could cast my Provider 1/16 jig head with a Zoom green pumpkin trick worm between 25 to 30 yards without a problem. Also could pitch the bait at least 10 to 12 yards without a problem. Took setup into garage where I put hook in vise and then tied braid around a screwdriver. Pulled hard on the screwdriver and the line popped. The knot held but the braid popped. Either the braid could not take the stress or I missed a knick or cut in the braid. Try 2 Did the same set up and same test as Try 1 and checked the braid for any knicks or cuts. Found none so repeated the vise test. Results different. This time the 8-pound Yo-Zuri line popped but the knot held. Interesting results. Will now set it up again and when we get a break with the rain I will go out and give it a try at a local pond or lake. Thinking of upgrading leader to a 10-pound Trilene XL Smooth Casting line but concerned about the knot size if I do this. Once I hit the water I will come back to this thread and let you know what happens.

Dick's closed their 84,0000 square foot anchor store in the Stony Point Fashion Park shopping center leaving only Dillards and Sachs 5th Avenue as anchors. So far no one has moved into the vacated space. Dick's still has stores at Short Point Town Center and adjacent to Lowe's off Kroger Drive in Chesterfield County. Since I don't play ball anymore all I do is shop for fishing bargains in their stores. Will check out the Short Pump store when I take my wife to Talbot's and Chico's in the Short Point mall in the future. I do not believe we have any Field and Stream stores in the greater Richmond area. I know there are ones in Charlottesville and Norfolk but no others in Virginia.

That is one reason NASCAR has such a strong following in every state and Mexico. Just like bass fishing that does the same thing. The pros will speak with you and they share their lives, experience, funny situations, jokes and fishing tips with us. We all have our favorite NASCAR drivers (Denny Hamlin) and favorite bass pros (too many to mention).

Hey guys, I am sitting in my man cave watching an old Colombo rerun on TV and thinking of my reply to a post that addressed what the pros do and we don't. In other words, until Home Depot and Costco open up I have nothing to do other than work and I will save that for tomorrow. I was thinking about Ike getting the Toyota sponsorship and how much fun it would be to think of funny sponsors for our tournament fishing shirts and boat decals that are not affiliated with bass fishing. Here is the list I came up with and am asking you to add to it. At least it will be funny and challenge your mind for a few minutes. Preparation H and other like products Toilet Paper Hair Dye Feminine products Laundry detergent Dishwater detergent Kitchen appliances Love shops’ and their products Favorite beer Hanes and Jockey underwear Under Armor Supporters and Cups Toothpaste Women’s clothing stores like Talbot's and Chico’s Funeral Homes Casket companies Cemeteries Bail Bond company Criminal Lawyers Boudreaux's Butt Paste ED products Psychiatric Hospitals Ladies underwear Wigs Hair restoration products Weight Loss programs Nasty Internet Sites Liquor products Strip Joints Gambling Casinos Cigarettes and cigars And the list goes on. Just imagine the pros promoting these products, like Hackney promoting ladies underwear or Ish promoting hair restoration products. Just add to it and have some fun.

OK, here is the story on what the pros use, by the numbers: 1. Pros are either given or get discounts on their rods, reels, and tackle. The more successful you are the more you get. 2. Pros need to send photos of themselves and their best catches to the sponsors. I caught a beautiful lady on Lake Chesdin about 10 years ago in the Swamp and the guy I was with took off his shirt and put on one of his sponsor's shirts and I took a photo of him holding the bass. He sent the photo to his sponsors. 3. Pros modify their tackle and you do not know it. From baits to reels they modify everything to give them a little advantage. 4. Pros push their sponsors equipment by mentioning it at weigh-ins. But if you listen very closely they don't say they used their sponsors tackle. The just promote it as best they can. So listen to Ike carefully at weigh-ins to see what he is actually saying. 5. Pros get new baits before they are introduced in the marketplace. KVD was using some baits in tournaments that we never heard of before. Same is true with other pros who are given the new baits to try and then report back how they did. Do you remember when Timmy Horton let the "Underspin" out of the bag? Other pros were really PO'ed at him. We now can use the Underspin as the pros do. Had Timmy not mentioned it in an interview we probably would pass it up when shopping for tackle. 6. See those beautiful boats the pros use? As explained to me by a pro they get to buy the boat, pay monthly installments, and at the end of the season they either sell or trade in the boats for a newer one. Or, they can either pay off the note on the current boat and keep it, but who wants to ride around in an old one-year old boat from last season? So you can see that the bass pros do things to their baits and tackle that we don't do. And they always promote their sponsors products in their articles, on videos, on TV, on the radio, in the newspapers, etc. What would be funny would be to come up with crazy sponsors for the pros' fishing shirts. Like in the original Bad New Bears movie when the sponsor was a Bail Bond company. We could make some really good suggestions. And by the way, Ike was the first bass pro to get a "non bass fishing" company to sponsor him. Look at his shirt and notice the name of a car manufacture like Toyota. It is a business. Play along and be successful. And you can try to get a sponsor. Just contact them with your resume and your tournament successes. You probably will not be given equipment but you will probably get a discount.

Reb, great seeing you are back. We still have to get together for lunch and do some Lake Chesdin fishing when the wackos and weirdos are back to work and we will will have some room to fish without ski boats, jet skis, and other bass boats on the lake. I plan to hit Chesdin this coming week with a friend but with rain moving in from the tropical storm on Monday and the good chances of rain for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday I doubt we will go. Maybe the week after unless we go in the rain which will clear out the lake. Going to use the Whipponock ramp. Catching and keeping bass killed Lake Lochinvar pond in Richmond. Used to have fun fishing off a friend's dock and catching lots of bass, some of which were quite large. Today only a few of those looking for black Crappie fish the pond. Now it is not worth your time and efforts to fish Lake Lochinvar.
