Does anyone else "Google Earth?"
Sure, to double check the bodies of water as they compare with the maps. It is interesting to note the depth of the water at various locations that do not show on the maps.

smaller baits equal bigger bass?
I have caught at least two (if memory serves me) very nice lady bass that were over six (6) pounds each on a one-inch white grub fished on a 1/16 jig head. I use the Zoom finesse worms and the *** and Slider plastics, too. I have some Culprits and Gulp!s but mostly the Zoom products. As for Luck Craft, I use them on lakes, other than for their crankbait line. So Avid is right. We can catch them on large and small lures; and Road Warrior is right, you catch more large bass on large lures. So go figure????

Hello, Avid here
Fantastic! Everyone will once again benefit from your wisdom and experience. So glad you are back.

Odd day.
He was probably cruising looking for a snack or cooler water. Or he could have been sick. But I would vote he was cruising and looking for a snack or cooler water.

Golfcourse fishing?
Best pond fishing in the world. Be sure to get permission and fish on days when the course is closed. Some ponds are good and others are not, but usually golf course ponds have little of no pressure and the fish will hit almost all baits. Just be sure to get permission to fish them.

My son is going to be on a fishing show!
Is the show local or national? We would love to see the production.

Custom Curado
Purple and gold. Beautiful combination. A little white will give it an elegant look. You will catch a lot of fish with this paint combination. On the other hand, anything green and blue will not catch any fish. Ever. Never. You can throw the reel away. Purple and gold. The secret color of champions.

Almost taken out by a sinker
We have all had our bass sinkers and baits fly back at us when we pull on them to get them out of trees, cover and bushes, but never have I had such a projectile that size whizz by me. I know that a bass bait and sinker can have some power behind it on the return and as you have so eloquently written, your surf casting rig has even more mass and more power. Glad to hear you are OK and now you know what NOT TO DO. Maybe you should stick to bass fishing.

Sunday Morning Fishing Anyone?
Sorry, fishing the Chick River on Sunday.

Like to pose a question to you all.......
Since I fish for fun and not glamor, I would take a photo, take measurements, and release her. I would not tell anyone where I caught her, other than for the date, time, method, bait and body of water. I throw everything back. And this confuses my wife. She always wonders why I spend hundreds of dollards on tackle and bait and have a bass boat filled with mid-range gasolline and always throw the fish back. Go figure.

Bass Pro Rods
I have the 60 million and 40 million rods and love them. I will take the 60 million rod onto rivers and lakes while I take both to rivers, lakes and ponds. Of course, other rods are more expensive, more sensitive and lighter but for an overall good rod the BPS rods are fine.

Rage Tail Shad
Thanks for the info, guys. Will also use the 4/0 Daiichi EWG hooks and see how that may change the action. Will let you know.

Braid knot question
Buckifan08 is right. Just be sure to use the same diameter mono backing on your reel as the braid's diameter. Uni Knot is the best. As for tieing a Palamor Knot to your bait - great knot. If you are worried the knot will pull out then dab a touch of glue on the knot itself while on the bait. I don't use a leader as it is one more knot to fail and I use braid in heavy cover and structure and pulling frogs and worms over and through and under pads and grass where the braid will not be noticed. Now get out of the house and give it a try.

Rage Tail Shad
OK, I finally figure out how to rig the Rage Rail Shad via the post on the forum and I stop by the local pond on my way home to see its action. This is a pond where the bass have seemed to have disappeared and I have not caught a bass out of this pond in over three months. So I park the SUV, get out and remember that I can only throw the Rage Tail Shad a few times as the orange juice is on the back seat, melting. First cast, nice action. Impressive. Second cast - first a bass hits at it and misses; then a second bass hits at it and misses about 10 feet from the first strike. Third cast - another bass hits at it and misses. Of course, I am not planning for anything to hit it so I was not in the "cross their eyes" mode, especiallyl since I was still in my pretty business attire and dress shoes. The bass just hit the Rage Tail Shad to kill it and I did not miss a hookset. ;D Sure. That's what happened. This Rage Tail Shad was the one I tried many ways to rig and tore the nose and put some other holes in it so it was not sitting perfectly on my Owner 5/0 Extra Wide Hook. But it worked! Will throw it on the Chick River tomorrow and then again on Sunday. Man, what a lure.

New River

Rage Tail Shad users
Hey Guys, Man, am I dumb or what? I sent a PM to Big-O because I could not figure out how to rig the things and then I find this post. I stopped by The Fishing Hole in Waverly, Virginia on Monday and the guy and I could not figure out how to rig the things so I decided to use a jig-head with a long shank hook. But I did not like the round ball sticking out of the shad's face. I went to Green Top today and Ron and I could not figure out how to rig the shads. He had never noticed them so it was like the blind leading the blind on how to hook them. Can't wait to tell him on my next venture with the Bait Monkey to Green Top. I see how to do it now and the 5/0 EWG Owner hooks I picked up today should do well. I am going to throw them tomorrow (Friday, June 25) on the Chick even though my friends say the topwater bite is nonexistant. So Big-O, if you see my message disregard it unless you want a good laugh. Thanks to all for the info on hooking and how to fish them. Can't wait. In fact, I may go to a local pond on the way home tonight and give 'em a try just to see how they do.

beginner line questions
As Road Warrior says, be very careful and set the drag correctly. Be sure you can pull the line off the reel with about 2.5 pounds of pressure. A reel is designed to hold the yards of each specific line test weight as printed on the reel. Couple this to the fact that your rod is designed to throw specific line and bait weights so you want to "balance" everything so as not to break your rod or damage your reel. With that said, you can still use braid on a spinning setup (although I use braid on baitcasters) as long as you double check the diameter to make sure the reel can handle it. Remember, braid does not give nor break so you will be placing a lot of pressure on the spinning reel. This is why it is imperative your drag is set appropriately and you do not use a lightweight spinning reel designed for light line tests. I am using the Shimano 2500s for river and lake fishing and the Shimano 2000s for pond fishing. The 2500s are strong enough to handle heavy fish and hard fights. Go out and give it a try and let us know how you do.

SUCCESS!!!!! finally
About time you caught something. ;D Gloves? Your girlfriend wears gloves? She needs to learn how to handle those boys without gloves. ;D

Another Nice One
That is a healthy looking fish. With the photos you can estimate the length and grith and then do the math: Length x Length x Grith = Pounds 1200 Keep on chucking those worms.

Fishing pressure! Ugh!
He weighs at least 10 pounds! ;D ;D ;D Glad we were able to help. Keep those pics coming.

Are bobbers only used with live bait?
And you can use the Gulp! baits that look like corn and grubs and rolled balls of white bread, too. All the bobber does is hold the bait at a specific level in the water column. It also tells you that a fish has taken the bait. And I don't think it really matters the type or size of the bobber, unless you are fishing heavy baits then you will need a larger bobber. Give it a try.

And Then the Fight Started....
AND THEN THE FIGHT STARTED.. Wife brought these home from her office. Sounds like Jeff Foxworthy but I have no idea of where they came from but they are funny. Think Snow White for the last one. Enjoy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When I got home last night, my wife demanded that I taker her someplace expensive.so I took her to a gas station.and then the fight started. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later. The woman said, Unbutton your shirt. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me and the processed my Social Security application. When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office. She said, You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability, too!and then the fight began. My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table. My wife asked, Do you know her? Yes I sighed. She is my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago and I hear she hasn't been sober since. My God! says my wife. Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?. and then the fight began. I rear-ended a car this morning. So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver out of his car. You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny? Yeah, well I couldn't believe it.he was a DWARF!!! He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, I AM NOT HAPPY! So, I looked down at him and said, Well, then which one are you?and then the fight started.
