  1. I think the savvy does a better job than the fury, but it's also a lot lighter. The champion is miles ahead of the savvy though.
  2. I'm looking at getting a champion or an extreme for small jigs and plastics. I currently have a DX745, and I'd like something much lighter. Maybe down to the DX742c or the D763c? Anyone got a rod similar to this?
  3. I don't know anything about brand loyalty, but I sure do love Dobyns Rods.
  4. Anyone have this reel? I'm gonna splurge at the end of this semester as a graduation present to myself. I'm a huge Lew's guy as I get a good deal through channels.
  5. 5:1 is perfect for cranks. I use my 5:1 BB1 for any really big spinners or chatters
  6. I through them on either a Dobyns 806 or my SC Premier musky rod. And I'd have to say that the musky rod was the better of the two. It's essentially a broomstick, so my answer to your question is the swimbait rod.
  7. Small spinnerbaits, nice pond rod too. Topwaters or jerkbaits would be good too.
  8. I have a 7:1 BB1 that I use for buzzbaits and frogs. I have 50lb braid on it, and it casts a d*mn country mile. BB1 is good for anything that you want to get as far away from you as possible haha.
  9. I just did some research on that and made my purchase a few days ago. I decided on the TPro G, as it is great at casting lighter lures and has high quality components. I was debating on getting the Tournament Lite. It's a little lighter, so I'd be less fatigued by the end of the day. But I don't think it would be worth the decrease in quality components.
  10. I found Sniper was too vulnerable to kinking. I used Tastu as a leader and it was pretty awesome. I've used a lot of Sunline and Seagaur products and they were all great. Especially Seaguar Red Label, yet to try Sunline's Model FC. I really like their Reaction FC, it's got just enough stretch to off-set my outrageous hook-sets.
  11. I have this. It's alright, it's too soft in my opinion. I have this. It's awesome. I'd recommend the Champion. If you don't want to spend that much, the Fury comes in 705cb, which is pretty good. I like it more than my Veritas.
  12. To answer your question about overkill: I say yes. I fish 14lb max. The lightest line you can get away with is how light you want to fish. As I mentioned earlier, I use 12lb. You may even be able to get away with 10lb if you'd like to try. Seagaur and Sunline make great FC at a great price (Red Label and Model FC respectively). Go order a small spool of each from TW and have a trial and error spring season.
  13. I usually spend too much money. I used to be very organized, then I got more baits than boxes. I want to try tying jigs during this season, but that's a bit of an investment I'd rather make on a new rod or reel.
  14. I have 10lb Sunline Assassin spooled up right now. Haven't used it yet. I throw 3/8 jigs on my DX745.
  15. I've used the spinning reel for a few years now, it's a good, solid reel. I know it's not the same reel, but I have faith in the company from having a reel. So I'd recommend it, especially if it is at a good price.
  16. I have the Lew's SuperDuty, it's great.
  17. The upgrade is well worth it. If that $60 is hard to come by, check out the Lew's Lite or the Tournament MB. Sensitivity is of the utmost important when fishing plastics. On a joking note, grab a black max and buy a Champion Extreme DX744! The rod is a beast!
  18. I took apart my BB1SHZ and forgot what order the washers go in. I can't find any schematics/diagrams for the most current model (I bought it like 2 years ago, it's recent by BB1 standards.)
  19. I'm just interested in Mag vs Cent to be honest, I have a deal at Lew's and that's what they have.
  20. The slower the action, the less likely you are to pull the hook out of the bass's mouth. It also makes it easier to keep the fish hook while bringing it to the boat. The action is the most important part. T The power of the rod is second, matters as per the usual, just not as much as the action. Lastly, I tend to stress this when I talk cranking sticks. In it comes to cranking sticks, sensitivity at it's least importance. Think about it, you're sitting there just cranking away, you're definitely gonna feel something. Just remember that I'm saying this relative to Jig and Worm rods, where sensitivity is of the utmost importance. (This is why my cranking sticks are Veritas, best $45 cranking stick I've ever used.)
  21. I'm fishing a club tournament this weekend, I finally have a chance to test which I like more, although I don't have a reel with purely magnetic brakes. (I think haha)
  22. What's the scoop on mag vs cent. When is one better than the other, does it matter, etc.
  23. Let me know how this works, that's the mono I would buy if I settled on mono.
  24. I find a Lew's reels to be very palmable. The LITE is even more so, but also over budget on sale. As far as going for a Shimano 50E, go post something on the BassResource Flea Market!
